Drivetrain The Official ALTA AccessPORT Thread
Check out my thread on OCC's --- https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...c-install.html
A quick check on your turbo air inlet should let you know if you have excess crankcase pressure. Lots of controversy about this, but it's easy enough to check and eliminate as a problem.

I have converted my PVC to vent to the OCC. However the puffing of the smoke continues (as it should for a bit) but I strongly believe this is not my issue. The exhaust smell just smells rich, like a fuel issue. It smells like this all the time. Not just when it puffs.
I was merging with traffic the other day and exercised my turbo rights and banged through 3 gears at WOT where I pulled into a parking lot and allowed the car to idle for about 5 mins while I waited for my passenger to get in the car. I put the car in reverse and gave the car some gas and the car chugged the biggest plum I'd ever seen. Smelled really rich. I gave the car some gas again and it spilled some more smoke for a couple stabs of the gas. Then all gone. I am trying to see if there is a pattern and I cannot seem to find one.
Could my tune be 'off'? I may try and undo the tune and re-install it.
Probably 4 times over the last year my car has given a large puff of smoke when I get on it. Then it runs really, really strong. I haven't found a pattern, and it hasn't happened in 4-5 months.

Hi Mike, while my car does do the 'usual' puff of smoke when getting on it, it is really embarrassing when it does it 4+ times a day from a complete stop. It looks like I'm driving a Ford Tempo in need of a ring job.
MyR56S,
I see your car is an 08. How many miles, have you changed plugs and had the carbon cleaning done recently? The AP is a canned tune, and they assume that this maintenance is done. My car definately ran better with new plugs. JCW's recommend that they are changed every 30k miles.
What stage are you running? Based on your sig, I would assume that Stage 1 FMIC would be appropriate. I think that Stage 2 or 3 require a high flow cat or catless DP.
Have you tried the different throttle maps, to see if the smoke is different on them?

You are correct in your assumption of my tune: Stage 1 FMIC. At 55k miles this car is running the OEM plugs it came with. I have not done a carbon cleaning as I have had a OCC on it since I bought it (32k miles). That is not to say it couldn't use the cleaning. Interestingly enough I removed the tune today and I have yet to see any smoke during my drive this evening.
I will invest in some plugs and start there. I planned on a carbon cleaning springtime next year. Thank you for your insight today. I really appreciate it!

Stage 1 FMIC for your specific octane ie. 91 or 92+. Do not run stage 3 unless you have a 2.5" minimum turbo back. With a catless DP or highflow cat.
Got my AP today...tried to reset my airbag light with it also but that didn't work but loaded the stage 1 92 octane tune and got a little extra power now
. Also getting a little extra boost me thinks haha.

That sounds much better! Running >22+ psi continuously takes some stones and a fat wallet. I used to run 23 psi in my talon but that was with meth injection and 630cc injectors (+plus a lot of other goodies).
it does, i did they said first nothing they can do then i pushed and they said they would see if rom can be added, honestly they say the support is for life, but they really dont want to support this...
Unfortunately support is not for life, see first post for more info:
1) COBB / ALTA will continue the One Year Warranty from the date of original purchase.
2) COBB will support software compatibility through July 1st, 2013
3) ALTA will support mapping concerns through July 1st, 2013

Can I still download the AccessPort Manager and update the maps?
Just realised I haven't updated mine in like... a year and a half if not more. Maybe two years.
[edit] found it here! http://blog.perrinperformance.com/ho...ta-accessport/
Updating to 1.6.5.0-5250 now (had 1.6.5.0-3012 before). I guess I should uninstall and reinstall it to update the maps?

Yeh you can dload the ap manager. Go to the cobb website, they should have it there. You can most likely update to the last known firmware release, but you really dont need to if there are no issues with your maps now.
Yup, car's been running pretty much perfect from day 1, so I have never bothered to update the maps, but I dunno, I wondered whether there might be any actual reason to upgrade. If you think there isn't any, I'll just leave it then.
