Stages

I am a little confused regarding stages especially in regard to the factory JCW. If I have an un-modded Factory JCW, I seems that I need to use the stage 1 JCW map on the AP? But is not the Factory JCW a stage 2 because it has a cat back exhaust? Additionally, when upgrading the Factory JCW, what is the normal progression as far as stages and associated components. Thanks.

Hey guys, I am running the Stage 1 92 octane map on my accessport and when I have it in the engine data mode where I can see the boost psi I constantly get like from 30-32 psi. I think this is wayyyy more than normal isnt it? Does anyone know the problem? I am also running oil temps of 225 degrees is this normal? Thanks

The oil temp is normal. On the boost are you reading "BOOST" or "MAP" (manifold absolute pressure)? These values would be about right for MAP which is equal to boost plus 14.7psi(atmospheric pressure). That would put the boost at about 15-17psi.

Thanks a lot! I was getting worried. is there any way to see display the bosot minus the atm. pressure? Or do i have to subtract manually every time? Thanks again

There should be a boost option down the list... Just activate it to see it... I'm pretty sure it's always available to see anyway

It would be nice to see what other talented tuners could offer if they were able to use the Cobb AP.
Octane, currently, only Jan is the only tuner other than us for the ALTA AccessPORT. If other tuners want to use it too, we will update our website.

If you have a bone stock JCW, you should install a stage 1 map. If you put an aftermarket cat back on the JCW, you should continue to use the stage 1 map.

If you have a JCW with a turbo back exhaust, then you should install a stage 2 map.

To go to stage 3, you would need a turbo back exhaust and an upgraded intercooler.

I hope that helps clear it up, thanks!

My MCCSa was tuned by a Cobb technician (through ABF Tech Division) using the AccessPort. It was nice having one of the guys who actually designed the AccessPort for MINIs working on my car...and the results are amazing!

Cobb manufactures the AP (as you all know) and has dynoed a few cars. They have helped answer the need of the custom tuning as no one else besides RMW has stepped up to the plate to buy the ALTA AccessPORT tuning software. So Chris is technically correct. But if there are others out there needing custom tuners in your area, have the shop call us, the software is not too expensive, and while our maps make power, there is more left on the table!

My situation was pretty unique, as I don't believe many folks have access to Cobb directly, nor will those Cobb technicians know MINI's. I certainly wish more tuners would join in to provide broader coverage across the country, but perhaps we need just a bit more time.

Another solution might be Alta, Jan and others opening up franchises...

Hi,

What happened with that, i´m still waiting good news

Kraptor, we are working on making the AccessPORT compatible with the Euro cars, with a AccessPORTs out in Europe for testing. If we can make it work, we will update the thread, thanks!

very interested in the EU models, curious too see if you guys can extract more out of the engine than the EU tuners can! Going to pick up my car in a few days.

Did you guys already had a 181hp model on the dyno to see how it compares to the older engine?

What is the chance of an app for the access port software on Iphone? I know there are several products out there for iphone that can do all the diagnostics and code clearing. I have an ipod touch and think it would be good to be able to save some money using it. Just a thought.

Not very likely. It took us a few years to get the AccessPORT, we're not ready to change to another platform yet, sorry!

I doubt it would really cost much less for people who have iOS devices already. I'd imagine the physical hardware cost of the access port is pretty minimal compared to the research and development that you're paying for.

Feedback on stock automatic install

Unlike most here, I have a completely stock 2010 Clubman S auto. Just wondering if anyone has some experience with the AP in a similar setup. I'm particularly interested in how it improves the tendency for the car to lag for a second when re-accelerating from a rolling stop in non sport mode...what I call Lag and Lurch. I realize the gains from the AP are relatively modest on a stock setup, but if I can smooth out that L&L problem AND get a bit more power...that'd be great.

How about implementing service indicator reset? For example reset when you change brakepads, I know you can do it thru onboard computer but would be a nice add-on to the Accessport

I'm not sure that 15-25HP on a 2500lb car is modest... That's 10-15% more power.

Any news on the pop and burble map? I don't know why it's taking so long. I'm not a tuner, but isn't adding continuous injection a relatively simple task?

I'd be perfectly happy with 15% if it cures my L&L problem. But that is my first priority. Hoping somebody here could relate to it.

Why are some people still more concerned about pop & burble than how fast this thing makes your car?

The same question goes through my head every time I see it on here.
