Drivetrain The Official ALTA AccessPORT Thread
Just wanted to add another endorsement re the Accessport. After a few initial problems installing the new mapping I got it right. The car is a whole different animal now. While all is smooth and very quick through the entire rev band, the biggest kudos must go to the changes in torque. That little 1.6 feels at least three or four times that big! Really could stand a taller final drive ratio now! Very impressive. Thanks Alta for a superb product!
I have a stock exhaust and want to retain it so as to avoid unwanted resonance and general racket. The Accessport works well with same. The FMIC is a big help in enhancing the overall performance level of the motor package that I have.
Cheers all,
Rod

Jrettew,
The Torque Efficiency is really complicated. It's another huge calculation that controls the ignition. The most important thing for you is to see that it's between 1 and 0.9 when you are flooring it. If it is lower than that, there could be a problem with the way your car is running.

Have there been any updates recently to the AP. Everytime I plug mine into the computer it download something but it still says last update 10/2010. Has anything in the maps changed or any new features?
I used to get bouncy idling with the stock ECU. Not sure if it's the same thing, but mine appeared to be due to carbon buildup on the intake valves. You might go back to stock for a few days and see if it's still there.
I'll give it a try. The last time I went back to stock it seemed to go away but that may have been by chance since it's worse some days than others. I'll do a seafoam treatment as well to try to get rid of some buildup.
For the "bouncy idle" posters. Can you...
also include in your posts which map you are using where you see the problem? If I remember the first post on this, it was a Stage 2 or even Stage 3 map. If it is a stage 1 map, as a fellow owner and user of a map at that level I would want to know (and would want Alta working on it). Mine is a low mileage 2010 w/ good gas so I don't expect I would have a carbon issue already.
If it is a stage 2 or 3 map being used with some of the bouncy idle reports, I would also be interested in the underlying mods. And to be honest in plain English, whether the map being used is at a higher stage than the mods recommended by Alta for use w/ that map. Just asking so I have a better sense of what folks are doing, what works (or not) and any obvious side effects.
Confirming too, no obvious irregular idle for me. 2010 MCS. Stage 1 map w/out (enhanced) FMIC. Factory JCW exhaust (center and rear), JCW "kit" intake w/ original JCW conical filter, noisemaker delete, intake muffler delete.
Thanks.

very, very rarely do I get the bouncy idle and it's subtle but it's there. I have noticed that I only get it with the heater fan on. It happens completely and totally at random. This is with a stage I map.
Ran the stock map for half a day today and the idle was rock steady. Switched back to a stage 3 map and the bouncy idle was back. It might have gotten slightly better after a dose of seafoam today but it's not gone.
I bought the accessport way back a few weeks after it first came out for my 09 JCW. I was and still am running stage 2 (no mods since then). I had the bouncing idle problem then, and I still have it now. I called Jeff back in the day to report it but nothing was really done about it. Im positive it is from the accessport, when I run my stock map, my car does not have this bouncing idle problem. only when im running the tuned map. hopefully they'll be able to figure it out soon....cheers.
Sorry for the delay on posting up! Which maps exactly are you guys running? If you are running a tps map, try the other map to see if it goes away. Also is it happening in sport mode and normal mode?
