Must be summer, busy here
Brr, a bit chilly this morning, car said 33F. I am not liking that it takes longer and longer for the car to warm up. :P How long does everyone wait before getting on it? All I really have for reference is the water temp, I guess.
I was thinking of maybe getting a car cover for the cold nights that I can't get a spot in the garage. Would be nice not to have to worry about frost on the windshield. However I'm not sure if it'll eventually tear up the paint. Any thoughts?

Regarding warming up... my gurus told me that, on these cars, it's better for the car to start and go - NO warm up time - that idling while cold does more harm than good with this kind of engine. I have to get into the throttle just to pull out of the neighborhood, but otherwise wait for the oil temp and water gauges to start moving up before I really lay into it...
Somebody makes some "half covers" that just cover the roof and windows... here it is, Moss has them:

With that one, you might have to polish your roof and A-pillars in the spring, but otherwise no extra swirls on the rest of the car...

That cab cover does look interesting....hmm....
Got a freeze last night and snow on the mountains - summer is officially over.
I move we retire this thread for the season and go back to our winter thread.
It was a great summer!

Nobody, is a "nobody", here on NAM. We all bring our own thing to the community. Oh, wait, no longer a Mod. Say what you want, you will get away with it if you have the right "friends"

As to warming up the car; down here in the mid-west(sub-tropics compared to where I'm from) I don't warm up the MINI at all, crank it over, get comfy, and go. Now back home, where winter temps can be -30 to -way flipping cold, I would let Poco warm up a little. Main reason is to get the fluids flowing. That said, I would only do this for 5 minutes or so, as all the chassis needs to be moving to warm up, so I'd go easy for the first mile, mostly to get the flat spot out of the tires, as they tend to freeze "square" at those temps.

If I remember right, windchill is not an issue with inanimate things. But ya, it is bloody cold up there
. Coldest Poco ever said it was was -47C, which is -52F, he started, warmed up the cabin, and ran fine

Ugh, 33F this morning on the way in. Too damn cold for October!
I noticed that the squeaking I'm hearing at intersections and stop signs is *my* brakes. It only happens if I put medium pressure on the brakes. Letting up or pushing harder stops the squeaking. I haven't tried slamming on the brakes HARD yet to see if that helps.
Keep in mind this car is less than two months old.
Any thoughts?

my MCS's brakes squeel under 5mph with mild pressure sometimes in
the cold.
you can try slamming on the brakes (i thought your car was new,
go easy on the brakes) to re-bed them but chances are it will not help.
so you're not going to pull a fast one on your customer?
so tomorrow, it's suppose to be in the mid70F's and sunny, so in the
early hours going motoring in my G, and then wash/PaintSealant the
legacywgn.
After the recent repairs i did on the legacy, it appears it's working
normally again...
so, i have not had a chance to make up an
excuse to get another car.
then wash my FitS probably sunday.
you?

the wrench light came on my FitS, so i need to change its oil too.
got a break over at murray's. they have a case of M1 going for $29.99.
not the cheapest, but not bad. guy gave me a funnel for free.

After motoring the G
, washed the legacy, clayed, and sealed the paint
with Griot's PaintSealant. only took 1.5hrs total.
temp was
about 70F and warmer to the touch so the sealant dried quickly.
did everything by hand.
used some dish soap to wash the red wax pad afterwards. SOOOO MUCH
faster to clean than using just the MF cleaner.
finished off rinsing
out the lotion in the dish soap out of the pad using griot's MF cleaner.
going to do the oil change and tire rotation on the FitS later on after lunch.
