I've had the convenience of being able to attend the Detroit Electronic Music Festival's for the past few years. It's amazing to see such a huge variety of talent, spanning all of electronica. It was great to see Juan Atkins, Marco Carola, Kelli Hand, and Todd Sines (among many others!) all in one location (whew!) I can't wait until this years DEMF!

my MA called me today!!! she told me that my car would be here sometime next week, so i'll probably be picking her up on 3/29/03!!! heehee, so close, yet so far.

she took a list of my dealer installed options, so my baby will be all gussied up when i meet her for the first time.

now what do i wear? i gotta get some thing to match Morgan...
maybe my black dickies with a black Saves The Day t-shirt.

Hmmmm...that music question is a hard one, I've been debating it myself for a while. I'm one of those people that considers music to be a really big deal. But here's a little story if anyone's interested:

A week ago, I was in bumper to bumper traffic and totaly hateing it(obviously). And whenever I'm in traffic these days, I always wonder what it will be like to be in traffic in the mini, which make me hate the current situation even more. I was listening to Echo and the Bunnymen, when I noticed that 4 cars ahead of me was a black/white mini cooper. Then I totaly began to stalk this mini, makeing unecessary lane changes to catch up to it, makeing sure no large trucks or vans got in front of me, swerving to the lane limits to get a better view, and rehersing hand signals to give the guy once I did catch up with him! And then I noticed the song Killing Moon was on, it was a hit in the 80's, don't know if anyone remebers but the lyrics go something like "Fate, up against the wheel/ you will wait untill, you give yourself to him." I started dancing and singing, and was totally having a blast! The whole situation seemed so ironic, I'm now thinking that has to be the song to play when I get my mini!

I'm getting closer as well, though not as close as Jim. Just called ASKMINI and I am officially Built. Production complete, awaiting transport to the docks. I think that means that I'm parked in a lot by the factory. I'm starting to get anxious again.

Question. I called AskMINI yesterday and got Emily on the phone. She told me that they changed the system at ASK MINI and now they can't track your MINI once it has left on the boat from England. Is this true? I found it kind of wierd. Just thought i would throw that out there!

Argh, I've gotten to this list late - mine's already on the Carmen and maybe halfway here. Here's the skinny on mine:

I'm dealing with the Cincinatti dealership, but haven't really got a clue what day to expect to pick it up. They told me "mid to late April" at first and then it was "early April". Whenever it shows, I'm more than ready.

 

When I spoke to my dealer recently he said they there was some concern about misinformation when the minis were crossing the pond. He said that disgruntled owners would complain when the ships arrived late and their delivery dates were pushed back. So I believe they may have changed the ASKMINI policy to eliminate the problem. Now instead of complaining about the car being late, people will just complain that they have no idea where it is....AND it took a long time to get here! Not much we can do I suppose. :???: At least it's almost April!

 

Motor'nMax turned silver today. :smile: :smile: :smile: Time for another celebration. His VIN is 7 in front of Shadowfax (reflections of a CR can be seen at times in the rearview mirror.)

I was also told that same thing back around mid-Feb by ASKMINI. That is when my MINI sailed out of Southampton. They told me to call when my MINI was scheduled to dock in the states. I did. And, they were able to track again i.e. from dock to VPC to truck. BTW, my MINI docked in CA on the exact day it was scheduled to dock. Hopefully my experience will be typical of everyone else here! :smile: :smile: :smile:

Ok, here's the deal........

ASKMINI no longer tells us anything after the car reaches the US. No more "reached VDC" information, no more "trucking" information, and no more "at the dealership" information. Rumor has it that there were too many repeat calls. I called three different ASKMINI people (Aaron, Jen, and Lisa) and all of them told me the same thing, "You call your dealership from this point on." They said the change occured over the weekend.

So, I called my MA and he has started giving me the well rehearsed line of "should be any day now." For those who care, my Estimated Delivery Date is 3/19....tomorrow! Fat chance.

Bottom line is.....once it leaves the UK you really don't have a clue as to when you are going to get the car.

Today Amanda at ASK MINI said my car is "193" and arrived on the docks on 3/17, and to check back in a few days to see what vessel it will be loaded on.

She did not sound as chipper as usual, so maybe they are getting overwhelmed (by the CWFAC?)as was noted in other messages today.

Wilhemsen Lines (w/VIN # punched in) shows the car "received at Terminal 3/15, loaded on vessel 3/16".

Does anyone know which one is correct? :smile:

According to the Wilhelmsen Cargo Tracking Site, your MINI (TD66806) was loaded on the Carmen, and should currently be at sea along with mine, and a whole slew of others. Looks like you're a little closer than you thought.

Thanks TJ. But ASK MINI seems to dispute that, saying it reached the port on 3/17, after the ship sailed. That's why I don't know which one to believe.

 

i called ask.mini today on a whim, and it turns out my JB/JB MINI was completed yesterday 3/17 (orig. est. production date 3/21). whoo hoo! must have been a slippery little devil and zipped right through production.

now, she's just waiting to get on a train to the docks (whatever code # that is!).
