R50/53 THE APRIL CLUB
chef r,
Shadowfax and Motor'nMAX won't have much time to hit the pubs if they plan on catching the Tosca. Oh well... plenty of time to party on the cruise. When I called today they said I was scheduled fo distribution tomorrow. Red gives us hope. He was sailing three days after production. If things go well, that means we could make it! Cross your fingers.
Congrats on Shadowfax's birth!

Hi Rfath,
I would check the WW site for specifics, but it sounds like your MA is referring to Port Bayone (spelling?) in NJ. Once there it will join the rest of us waiting in the VDC. I've been in there since 3/14. I was hoping to have my car this weekend, but my MA says more likely next week sometime.

I just revamped the look of the CWFAC page a bit, to match the look of MCO for an easier transition. Also added a "links" page. Please tell me if you want me to add something!

The new webpage looks great!!! Thanks for the great work.
A thought for everyone...
Wouldn't it be great if all our MAs had webpages for the dealership like that???
We would all sleep much easier at night.

Ryan,
I read the swaybar discussion, learned a lot. I'm not really very knowledgable about the technical side of things...the last car I owned that I could really work on myself was my 65 Karmann Ghia. Things have gotten a *little* more complex since that one was built.
Just out of curiosity, with your experience/expertise regarding automotive performance and tuning, do you plan to add any mods to your MINI...if so, what and why.
I suppose that the way the car is going to be driven has a lot to do with the need for mods.
How 'bout the rest of you CWFACers do you plan to modify your mc/mcs. What performance upgrade are you looking for?
I also had another question for y'all:
Did anyone look at/test drive/consider any other current cars? Or were you like me...saw a MINI, fell in love with the MINI, had to have a MINI and bought a MINI without even considering any alternative.
Production complete today!!! I can't motor yet...Let's sail!

Ok, just did some shopping for Grover. Decided that I couldn't let him show up without at least some sort of gift for him. (And a toy or two for me.) Here's what I got:
1:28 Scale New Mini Diecast Car : blue
Revell 1:24 New Mini Model Kit
TVA Hot Pocket Dashboard Storage Unit
Glove Box Organizer for New Mini
TVA Aluminum Shorty Antenna
I hope he likes it, and that they fit. You know what all that food an drink on a cruise can do to you. I'll have to get him some exercise when he gets here.
G'nite all.

Welcome Ed!
Do you have a production number, status, and/or VIN? Sounds like you need to chat it up with your M.A., and give 1-866-ASK-MINI a call!
woah it's past my bedtime! I had to stay up and watch Formula 1 qualifying (Live in Malaysia, schweeet!)
Cheers

New boat to add to the list!: The Terrier.
It's headed to Southhampton on 3/28 and then it is California bound with my MINI. Voyage is estimated to take 19 days. Assuming no more than 2 weeks from unloading to dealership, I should just be able to maintain my membership in the CWFAC and not have to go crawling to those May guys.
According to the website the Terrier is enroute from Finland to Germany right now. So there's plenty of time for my MINI, which is currently status 160, to make it to the dock.

i was really hooked on MINI the first time i saw the new design. then, the miniusa.com website experience really sold me. i probably would have purchased it from the website if at all possible, it made that much of an impression on me.
funny thing is, when i finally convinced my fiance to go for a test drive with me at Schomp, i was so nervous she wouldn't like the car that i stalled it in first gear in the dealer parking lot! talk about a rocky start to convincing her that the car and i were meant to be together...
as far as other cars i considered:
i didn't really shop around, per say. we already have an 87 suzuki samurai and a 98 jetta in the garage, both paid for. so we weren't really in the market for a new car. but, when i fell in love with the MINI, i figured i'd better be sure that i couldn't do something better with my $23K.
first, i thought about another volkswagen, either the GTI or the newer model jetta. but, i actually like my older body style jetta much better, and the insurance on the GTI was way too much.
then, i looked at the acura rsx. really nice car, but the history of the integra made the insurance too much to bear as well, plus i would have had to spend more than 23k to get something nice in that package.
i hadn't considered the new tiburon until i saw one on the street. it was much much cooler looking than the old model. but just sitting inside one made me realize that it wasn't very well finished inside... and i only ever see 16 year old high school kids driving them...
i really lusted after the 350z, and the price was actually do-able, but rear wheel drive in colorado is a death trap.
then i drove the WRX, and fell in love with it. only ~$2k more than my MCS, and good insurance rates. but my fiance told me if i bought it i'd have to live in the backseat, 'cause she'd kick me out of the house (she thinks i have a history of speeding or something
).
so, MINI MCS it is, and i'm not looking back!!! now, if the damn car would just get here already.

Well it looks like Carmen passengers are being given an estimated delivery date of 3/26. I just checked the owners lounge and that's what mine says. This is clearly not realistic unless the VPC and dealers have really picked up the pace. My dealer is Mini of Sterling (just outside Washington DC) so I'm not but a day from the docks. However, if the Carmen is only set to arrive on the 24th, I don't see it getting to my dealer by the 26th. I'm ready with the checkbook if that is the case. I'd be pyched if it was ready by the 28th so I could motor on the weekend.
By the way, lets not continue the tradition on some other CWF__C where they exit with a statement of "I'm out of this stinkin club". I think we should keep the club together. I'd like to meet some of you when there are motoring events.
Regards,
Harry

Hey Ryan, have you picked your new wheel/tire mods yet? This will be my first (and maybe only mod..maybe intake..though I'm reserving judgement until I get to know the car)...
I'll keep my stock 5 star w/run-flats for winter driving, and the new setup will be for performance spring/summer. I'm pretty much set on the Yoko 100's for the tires, good perf to weight to wear ratio for performance/practicality sake. On the wheels I go back and forth...probably 16 inch...problem I find is the lightest wheels aren't usually that attractive on the Mini design IMHO, and looking for a good mix of low weight w/ good looks. SSR's are great for weight in the 13 lb range but not crazy about looks, ones like Moda etc. look great but about 19-20 lbs (still better than s-lites etc but)....than there are the new special edition Rota slipstreams that are about 13 lb and I think look pretty good....and inexpensive...but I'm not sold on quality yet or O.Z. are a potential option...so I go back and forth.

>>Well, a first performance mod will be to get "fair-weather" wheels 'n tires, which will be much lighter than the famed "boat anchor" S-lite's

CWFAC Rules!!!!!
The March Club has gone down the drain. I may get my car in March, but I am out of that club. Keeping the April club active is critical. The Marchers are the case study for what happens once the owners take delivery of their cars. They leave the club, don't post anything more than pictures and then they stop posting. What a shame!
There is so much more to be gained once WE all get our cars and share our experiences with one another. It will be our own little APRIL MINI USERS CLUB (AMUC for short). I am looking forward to driving my MINI and learning all the "in's and out's" with my mates in the CWFAC! You guys/gals are the BEST!
Congrats Ry on the 1000th post. You are a very valuable resource to us all and the main reason why this club has such a loyal following.
CWFAC 4 EVER

run AMUC?
ba-dum-bum. Ok, it was pretty bad but I had to say it before someone else did.

I'm not Ryan, but I just wanted to comment that I ordered some Yoko 100's yesterday.. I got a warning from the person I was talking to that they're on national backorder, so they could be hard to find for a while. Looking around on the internet sites (tirerack, discounttiredirect, etc) what he says seems to be true: what few places that still have the tires are saying that they're in limited stock.
I was worried about the Rota quality, too, but from what I've read they're actually pretty decent.. and they're inexpensive enough that replacing a wheel isn't too much of a problem. Except when they discontinue a wheel, which is always my luck. My plan is to get a set, see what I like about them (or not), and if I decide to go more into the performance like autocross or tracking, then I'll invest in something super lightweight and in the smaller diameter.

thanks for the reassurances! My MA did mention that it could take 2-10 days to clear the VDC a while ago. I had been hoping that it would be on the lower end of that range, but I'll take whatever I can get

Rfath, thanks for the heads up on the 100's status....great to know. I may take the same tact on the Rota...I like the new special ed slipstreams...need to see them on a Mini first though....really like the Moda R2's -look great on the MCS....but a litle too heavy.
