That's good to hear. Once the dealers are selling them the aftermarket should soon have them for a bit more reasonable pricing.

I need help with which pin connector do I find pin 12 for Connecting the blue wire. I located the pin 12 of one of the connectors (the one at the lower end of the control unit) and that wire appears more purple than gray and a faint yellow line on it. Is that it? The second pin connector (on the top of the control unit) I cannot get in close enough to locate the 12th pin since most of the wires are covered with plastic cover which does not appear to come off. So my question is which pin 12 connector is it? I have also read the pin connector in the instructions in pointing to the wrong one (top vs bottom one). I have read the wire should be gray?

The instructions were very frustrating and contained errors for this part of the installation.
I tried to in my post #420 on this thread to get a detailed explanation of the connection to include photos of the actual parts--Note the color and size of the actual wire.

Thanks. Post #420 is helpful. I will need to try again tomorrow. It appears that after disconnecting the top 31 pin connector I can slide the plastic sleeve cover off. That was not apparent from my first attempt. Hopefully I will find the top connector pin #12 is gray. If so I will connect to it and cross my fingers.

Also, I noticed two versions of the instructions with the same 04/2013 date on them. The only difference is the footwell image on page 9/12 showing the pin connector X14261 changed ( I attached screen prints of both.) I find it odd that the instructions still show the main harness wires coming from the below but my wires (and the photos in this post) show the main wires from the top. If the instruction were correct this would be an easy install!

So as I understand, when your headlights are off (manually or automatic in the daytime), the halos will be active/on. Is there a way to make everything shut off when the lights are switched to "off" on the stalk? As in, if I have automatic headlights and they are switched to "auto", the halos will be on/headlights off in daytime and then switch the stalk to "off" and have the halos and headlights off? Thanks in advance. I'm so close to ordering a set for myself (I just don't like not having the option of turning all of my lights off. Drive-in movie anyone?)

That is correct that the DRLs are always on when the lights are off. I'm adding a cut off switch over the weekend.

I believe, that if the blue wire is tapped into the correct harness wire then they will shut off when the selection is off on the stalk.

This option, or lack of it, is an issue when tapping into just a switched 11v source, and deviating from the install instructions. They can't be turned off when the car is on if they are always getting power.

The only thing you can do that I can see, is to put a new switch in the line that takes power from the wiring plug inside the car.

It can't be any lighting feed, since otherwise the DRLs won't be on in the daytime - which seems to miss the point somewhat! But it has to be an ignition-controlled feed, so that when you switch off the ignition, the DRLs go off.

There are times when one might not want the DRLs on; maybe while working on the MINI or in my case when I start Louise at 5:15a and don't want to light up the neighbor's house like a runway.

I've tested the DRLs; the city lights and fog lights illuminate with no power from the blue wire applied, e.g. using the street side parking light when you're out of you vehicle.

The blue wire is ONLY for the DRL's. All other functions are from the in-line connectors at the lights. If there is a signal from anything then the blue wire is ignored. If no signal from any light then 1) if power to blue wire the DRL halo will light up or 2) no signal from blue wire then no lights at all (like if car is off OR technically if the light stalk is in the off position).

The last point is my point on getting the correct wire tap for that blue wire. Yes, you can tap any 12v switched wire but then, as we have all discovered, you can't turn off the DRL HALO's for no light mode with the car switched on.

Ordered and shipped yesterday! Thanks for the fast service from ECS!

My dealer contacted me and said that these fog lights are now going to be unavailable till sometime next year. I find that hard to believe since I was able to get them quicker than the dealer? Anyway, they just lost a sale on these things.

I'm not sure what your dealer is seeing. I just spoke with my MINI parts guy and he sees NO restriction or shortage. He's also sold so many DRL kits that they're now a stocked item for his dealer.

I've competed the cutout switch installation for Louise and it works as I expected. Here's a video and a couple of photos showing where I installed the switch. Simply install a single pole single throw (SPST) switch between the blue control wire and the switched power source. DONE!

Anyone have a picture on an R60? Thinking about either getting these or just going the cheaper, slightly different route and just picking up the Ziza LED front position lights.

I don't know either but this is what the email said:

"I just got an update from parts this morning and I was going to give you a call but I ended up having a person drop it and just finished. I am afraid I have terrible news. So I had parts call to see what the delay was because it was taking a really and apparently these fog lights are now not going to be available till sometime next year. I don’t know why MINI didn’t let us know this instead of us having to call but unfortunately they are pushing it. Perhaps they are pushing the date to the new hardtops? I am not sure but in any case, I am sorry for about that and I wish we had both been updated better."

They quoted me a slightly better price on the DRLs and decent install price, but maybe they just didn't want to do it? Who knows..

There is an English guy on YouTube that posted his LED DRLs on his blue R60. Just do a search and you should be able to find it.

For a lack of a better word....total BS. There are over 1200 units available and some 250 kits in the states ready at MINI warehouses.

What dealer told you this

Anyone know what gauge the grey and blue wires are? I was going to order some posi-taps but they vary depending on what gauge wires are being tapped together.

You are welcome KilmerPT.

"Anyone know what gauge the grey and blue wires are? I was going to order some posi-taps but they vary depending on what gauge wires are being tapped together. "

According to the wire diagram install PDF linked (page 3) to the product on our site the Gray and many others are 0.5 mm²international size = ~ 0.032 inches or ~ 0.81mm . 0.80mm is 20 gauge wire and 1mm is 18 gauge wire.

So a hair over 20 gauge wire. I would get a couple around that size and you should be ok.
