Electrical NCSExpert for beginners
EDIT: model year 2010 uses a different programming method. Since you in reality have a 2012 radio, the old method (NCS Expert) won't work.

Interesting...
Was your '12 radio used? Maybe it had the SAT option enabled from the factory.

Update...I did an sg_reset and now I lost all phone, sat, usb, blah blah blah but after doing some forum searching it appears all I have to do is change my build date in my VO to #0612 to trick the ecu into thinking it is a 2012, however, the latest build date it will let me put in is #1209 without throwing an invalid FA code. If I can get the build date to change and then do an sg_reset, it should work. So I am basically stuck until I can figure out how to put in a build date later than dec 2009. I don't know if it is a different format past that date or what. I'm using v49.4 datens fyi.

I got the problem halfway fixed...I used a couple different build dates and 0311 worked and enabled satellite...however the icon still disappears after I turn off the car but as long as I don't change modes I can still listen to Sirius. More troubleshooting tomorrow.
Side note: all the available build dates are in the .000 file in the daten folder

Now you have a MY2008 with a 2012 radio. The 2012 radios had the satellite FSC codes enabled due to a promotion MINI was running with Sirius. What I believe is happening is that the 2008 modules which interact with the radio in your car don't know how to deal with the newer FSC codes so it works some of the time but not all of the time.
I could be totally wrong, either way keep plugging away, I'm definitely interested in how this works out.
I like your style.
I don't think it's an FSC code issue. I activated my 3 month Sirius trial today and drove around for a while and satellite worked fine. Just the icon isn't there. I think this is a MOST loop issue and the car is still looking for modules that aren't there. I'm going to read the 2RAD tomorrow and see if any module is set to exbox (exterior module from the headunit). If it is set to that, I will change all the modules to inbox (controlled in the head unit), in theory, the car shouldn't disable any icons because it won't look for anything on the MOST bus anymore.
chassis code is r56.
If you simply download and run the bat file then all things get placed accordingly thanks to Chernobyl.
If you can read your vin then the cable works.
Simply getting ignition lights does not mean you have the correct cable. You have to actually read from your cars computer.

I'm about to lose my mind trying to get this to work. I've downloaded the package from you, installed the programs, and ran the bat file. INPA is working fine. The problem I'm having is it seems that EDIABAS isn't launching. I get the following error when running NCS (See attached)
Vehicle is 08 MCS R56
Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi guys!
I've followed the instructions and i have successfully coded some things... (Thanks GTECKO!
)
I have a 2008 R56, and now i need to code some things to a friends R55.
Do i need to create a new folder called "R55" (C:\NCSEXPER\DATEN\R55) and put the same files there?
Thanks.

You're all set to go.
hi guys. just tried setting this up tonight. got my cable from Focalprice.com (states in description works on r56) went through step by step but when i run INPA it only sees my battery as on, ignition is showing as off, and of course i get the bad VIN error when trying to proceed further. I'm using the v38 datens. this is for my 2010 R57, which I'm pretty sure has been updated very recently by dealer as far as software. Im running on win 7 65bit in win xp mode. all the software installed with no issues. all the port designations point correctly. do i perhaps need datens updated or some other versions of the software updated? crappy cable? if anyone has any thoughts please feel free, would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Glen
Thanks,
Glen
What color is the circuit board inside the cable? Green, blue or white?

Return it.
There are three common variants of this cable:
* Blue circuit board -- these don't work, pure knock-offs
* White circuit board -- these rarely work
* Green circuit board -- usually work, this is what you want.
This vendor, recommended here and on some BMW coding forums, did the job for me:

Shipping from China takes forever but it works.
The first source I tried first mailed me a white one. By the time I got around to testing it I was months past the return date. SOL. Spent too many hours trying to get to work. Finally learned about the color variants, concluded I had a bad knockoff, and ordered the one from ECUtool.com and it works flawlessly. Green.

I've had a cable with a white board, and it worked fine for about 2 years... then died.
I'm now using one from ecutools, with green board. Also, a friend got one from ebay, with blue board, never worked. I tried to program the chip (FTDI) on the board, but no success.
Buy from ecutools.
That's right. More expensive, but faster.
