When I run INPA i can see battery and ignition and it seems to work fine as Ediabas letter "E" lights on startup bar.

I run EDIABAS 6.4.7 on Win 7. Is that makes the problem? Where can I find update for the EDIABAS?

That's exactly the problem. I had that same cable. It looks the same as the one sold from one-stop but it does not work.

So, I just received my OBD2 cable from ecutool, and it came with an install CD. Do I install this software prior to the NCSExpert stuff?

Anyone know if the cable used for coding VWs with VAG-COM is the same thing? I've already got one of those, and would hate to order a new one if I don't need it.

Yes, but doesn't seem to make any difference. laden.bat seems to copy files all over the place, some paths don't exist - hence the errors

Is there anyone in the Chicagoland area that has experience with this? Im thinking about playing around with it i have a few things i would like to do but don’t want to ruin anything. Maybe we could meet up and work on this with me?

Google "bmw standard tools 2.11" and you will get hits. I did this a few weeks back and had good luck. Be certain you follow the instructions and update EDIBAS.

Quick question, when you launch inpa, are the on circles on the screen suppose to be black or green. (ignition/battery). Mine are Black but do say on.
I noticed that there was a green bar on the screen below.
Sounds silly, but I don't want to foobar anything up.

Mine were black as well. Just the circle if nothing. Filled in black is active.

registry error

I get this registry error when starting INPA:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\Serial"
May be there are problems!

If I close it, the Ignition reads on and Battery on.
Closing it I start NCSExpert and eventually get the bad vin.

Did the driver not install correctly.

I dont see any conflicts on XP laptop device manager.
I did change latency to 1

Bad Vin, cannot read ECU

Plain and simple question.
If INPA reads ok, but Expert program brings up Bad Vin cannot read edu is this a guaranteed cable problem?

Nope - if INPA is working and you are able to read information from any module with it then it is highly unlikely to be a cable problem.

It's more likely that you have not installed the daten files correctly in NCS Expert. Did you run the laden.bat file after copying the files into the various locations?

I cannot get past the initial stage of NCS expert.
IE, I load the profile, do the next two steps, choose R56, then CAS, then when it tries to read the VIN it brings up the error mention. (…VIN, not connecting to ECU or something..)

Is there a different source for the software and newest datens? The links in the OP don't work anymore.

Edit: Ok, I found the entire software suite and installed EDIABAS, INPA, and NCS Expert, but how do I determine if I have the correct datens?

Chernobyl: The Wizard

A big shout out to Cherobyl to ALL his help!

Good 'Ol B.C. Boy…..

Figured out it was my cable (yes, everyone who said don't skimp was right!), and ordered one from ecutool.

Excellent help and coded some features. Just gonna wait for my new cable and off to the races.

He is one patient man!

Also has the best choice in car colors…Sparkling Silver

Can anyone tell me if I screwed this up. I think I had my .MAN file open in two windows and now I think my airbag module has a lot of extra entries from another module in it. Is there a way to reset it back to default or can someone with an 08 MCS sent me a text file of the abs module?

To load up the ORIGINAL factory defaults if you mess up.

Go to your /WORK/ folder. Open FSW_PSW.MAN, select all, delete, save & exit.

Load NCS Expert

Select "Expertmode" profile

Hit "VIN/ZCS/FA" to load your Chassis and Vehicle order info

Hit BACK

Hit PROCESS ECU

Select the chassis, then module you F'd up on. For example "LSZ"

On Pre-02 cars It will say "LSZ" and underneath "SG_Codieren" along with some files LSZ.Cxx, LSZ.PRG, etc etc. SG_CODIEREN is the correct job you want.

On Post-02 cars It will say "LSZ" and underneath "SG_Codieren" along with some files LSZ.Cxx, LSZ.PRG, etc etc. Hit CHANGE JOB, Select "FA_WRITE" Job.

These files are basically from your /DATEN/ folder and contain the proper coding information specific to your car. How does NCS know which files to use? Because it knows by looking at your VIN and VO, then selects the correct files. NCS will then basically read these files, then read your VO and re-write the proper codes, features, activate, deactivate everything to your factory settings.

The job is SG_Codieren or FA_Write because you will WRITE your original settings back in.

Hit EXECUTE JOB.
