how are things on the software front? I had a long conversation in person with a vendor here on NAM about the M62 kit and he was of the mindset that none of the current ECU solutions could adequately harness the potential of the upgrade. Specifically, we spoke of an MTH file and Unichip. This vendor sells an alternate solution <wink wink>, so take my post with a proper grain of salt.

I'm taking it with a grain of salt but roasting it in the juices of hope that someone somewhere in the next year comes out with something similar to the ECU+ that the EVO/DSM guys have available.

Besides the AFC is there any user programable piggy-back that will work with the MINI? I don't want to have to rely on someone else for ECU flashes and there's a dyno 10 minutes from my parents house (where I'll probably wind up doing the M62 install) and would like to be able to utilize their service.

Actually the Unichip works quite well we just don't have enough trained experienced tuners.... there will be at some point user tunability within parameters

Uhghhh. My problem with the Unichip is its cost. I'm still waiting for a fully user-tuneable solution at a reasonable cost.

I am probably going to be shot for saying this as I have seen a prototype being built but haven't heard what the cost will be yet or if it's feasible. Rest assured someone is looking into this for the Mini. There are people working on great things for the Mini that do not post on this board.

This isn't even close to the longest thread on NAM.

good point..... my problems had more to do with headers....injectors..... pulley size..... coolant issues....remember I was not the beta but the Alpha..... I suffered so the rest of you don't have to...... after the header and retune I will post the dynos... I promise....

We are waiting for DDM to get their Unichip products so we can tune (this saves third party costs)..... Dave learned from Gr8force the proper pulley size and mine is still not running optimum......and for the header to be finished which should be right after the first of the year......again I will post the Dyno sheets when it is all done....

FWIW.....since I have my car back and it runs strong but maybe not optimum the pressure to get this all done is off of me.... as far as I am concerned it will happen probably right after the first and that is good by me

Don't feel too bad.
Those of us that own the old one get to pay full price if we want a new one.

Maybe this'll change??

from a functional poit of view I am not sure of the differences.... I know the new one supports the Flux and 5 maps

Bob,
This sounds like another marketing gimmick.

Yes and all things are a go. Hopefully it won't be too late by the time I get all the way back home so I can post a chart.

Word is the new one performs many other additional functions that the old one just can't. I have no idea what those are exactly but I did see the Flux in action. Very cool for the gadget gearhead and for tuning on the fly for the Unichip specialist. That's what I heard.

I think the new one has better map resolution (finer adjustments) but I don't know the extent of it.... I doubt that it is a marketing gimmick...... someone should contact Unichip or a Unichip dealer (I am not either)

I hope you have a "before" chart, it will be interesting to see what the results look like. Good luck!

Sorry it took so long to get back on this. R.L. stuff you know...

I don't have any good news to report. The blower that is normally put directly on the intercooler was broke so heat soak literally destroyed any real results. There was a serious flat spot on the torque curve though from 3k to 5k and I mean flat. Looked like someone had deadlined on the heart monitor. I didn't grab an e-chart from them because of the skewed results. Seriously guys I would post but the runs are not legit. The shop will get back to me next week sometime I hope with word that they got the dang thing fixed or a new one in its place. I just wish there was a method other than a wind tunnel to obtain real life results.

One thing that did show is that even with the M62 there are other parts that will limit the output of the engine in stock configuration. There is a head a coming that will be put on shortly.

update

I got a call from Dave yesterday and his Unichip stuff is in..... the header should be done right after the first of the year..... Dave wants the car for a few days to try a new pulley size, add the header, mess with injectors and tune....... you have my word that I or Dave will post the dyno sheets....
