Peace, someone asked if the power BBR claimed came from only the M62 or from the whole kit. BBR's David Brodie said as you are finding out that it is a kit that includes a p/p head w/ larger vales, larger more efficient intercooler system, upgraded fuel delivery and most importantly the ECU tuned to make it all work. I think it's what DMH has been saying all along. That to have this kind of air flow increase and utilize it, you have to do these things first. So... the SpiderX would be exemplary of a car that has most of this as you've got the head work, intercooler, larger injectors and other stuff already in place. BBR claims some secrets no one else has, but you should be seeing larger gains from the sc than a stock mini adding only the M62. I don't think they will see the same gains from this part alone as the SpiderX. The before and after readings for them will be different than yours. So... as DMH has been trying to express, this fits better as an end mod and not a beginning mod. If you spend the cash on the sc in the beginning, you'll probably be spending a lot more in the future adding all the other components to get it to work at peak efficiency. Otherwise the stock mini would come with the M62.
SpiderX will realize it's potential when the Quaiffe is installed. There has to be an issue with getting all that power to the ground.

The contact patch of a motorcycle is much smaller than that of a car. With proper tires and suspension... It shouldn't be a problem.

Plus, there are two more of the contact patches (not to mention a larger surface area per patch).

Especially on Hwy. 84 between I280 and Hwy 35.... The MINI owns that stretch of road. I have yet to see any car (or motorcycle) that can run away from the MINI on that road. Maybe for a short stretch, but the curves level everything and the MINI catches up. The most humbling experience for another car/motorcycle is when they have to pull over to let a MINI pass them.

Like spillman said, traction shouldn't be a problem in a 250 whp s/c car; 250 whp is very rare in a Mini Cooper S, but pretty common for other other similarly sized fwd cars.

Motorcycles, from what I recall, when it comes to lateral g's, get in the .7's... nothing compared to a well-sorted auto. This was the appeal of the GX3, a nice combo of both (trike) getting well over 1 g...

I've passed motorbikes before on the Old Pacific Highway north of Sydney. One actually pulled up behind me at one of the stops and made a comment about how quick I was. He said "I'll let you take my bike for a spin if you let me drive that thing" hahha....

...no thanks...

I've been pushed by a 911....

and I haven't "played" with a Ferarri or an Elise/Exage yet... I'm pretty sure there are a few cars up here that can do it as well.... But they're in the minority!

On the roads where I live, and up into the canyon, bikes are not in their best element to excel. I've seen guys leaning, dropping a knee, then start to lose it... scared the crap out of me. Not worth someone getting seriously hurt, or worse... I just ease-up for bikes now.

I have a group of "playmates" who tend to hit these roads on week day evenings within a certain time frame, and so long as I can leave the office at the "right" time, it's a great ride home! We're talking cars double, triple or more in price, and the MINI does exceptionally well... evening hanging decently well in the straighter portions now (after mods).

The great equalizer for the MINI is plenty of turns, particularly tight ones... and when the roads get wet, those higher powered RWD cars are not worth following too close

Great little car... The M62 should be a very welcome addition!

Of course...you guys can only go as fast as the speed limit allows so it doesn't matter how much power/handling you've got...right? Or are we talking about a Canyon race track that allows racing with bikes?

In my "closed" course experience, the Exige still owns the MINI. Qualitying that statement is it takes a driver willing to keep the little Toyota powerplant pinned north of 5k rpms.

Now if you want to talk the 240 version of the Elise with the SC on it, that's a whole 'nother ball of wax........

Just got back from the Dragon today.... roads were slightly damp and little traffic......it was also 39 deg and a bit cold for most bikers. The 62 means the car stays in second gear most of the run..... did not push it because of conditions.... still fun to be there. I drove the 62 about 1000 + miles as we left on Friday and drove near Chattanooga and then to NC...... I find the guys on bike who can really ride are few and most of these guys when you are on their *** start to get squirly... I back off so no one gets hurt... I'm sure they tell stories of the "Mini that thought he could hang".... just thought I would chime in... the 62 is running strong and I need a clutch.....

Tuls comments are as usual very accurate..... for most of us the 62 is just the kick the car needs.....

FW/Clutch/Quaife are next plus a possible surprise for the gearbox.....

A new addition to the M62 family

Well, SpiderX is no longer the only guy running around in a M62 Mini. I have been testing the second Beta this weekend and all seems to be great with this one. It has all production spec pieces on it and the kit is really looking very nice. It is an otherwise completely stock MINI, with the exception of the DFIC and intake and is helping to determine the exact pulley size that will ship for stockish cars. Once I get it to the dyno, I will let you know.

Take Care,
Dave

Nice. Of course that raised a question.
Let's say later on this guy steps up and gets a head, cam, etc later on.

What's the route taken? How much for a new pulley and the inevitable new ECU program?

Thanks for the work Dave and I realize it might be early for these answers.

Let's see, the pulley upgrade performed on the M45 was a 17% for a few bills. If I get an ECU solution then it'll be the Unichip and with road tuning that will run about what another 1k? Throw in the head/header which I probably won't do unless someone can get the dang noise levels down to acceptable for the general public. So this will have to be good enough for me.

I can't wait to see what Icarus can do. I find out later today when I take receipt of him. Today? Tomorrow? I feel like Cartman waiting for the Wii to come out.

I was hoping Dave might have an upgrade path that would come in cheaper than just buying the individual components themselves.
If it's the typical 2 pice pulley swapping the pulley out is simple. The comes the tune.
That's the big question.

I know Peter & Dave have plans for the upgrade path but I have no idea of what they are. Stay tuned.
