Drivetrain M62 SC on the MINI is reality
What's up guys! I just registered earlier today and posted here https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=73778
To answer an earlier question, yes an electric water pump had to be installed as you can see. I'm told it's one used as a race application for 400 to 500hp v8 engines. The installers reworked some of the plumbing to provide better cooling, however they are thinking of using a smaller pump when they market the kit for sell to the public.
The stock intercooler and most of the stock piping are going to be utilized, except for the intake side which was reworked for this kit. The intercooler diverter you see was developed by the installer and works very well. After driving the car hard for a few hours with just the 17% pulley and diverter, I could lay my hand on the intercooler without being burned. The sprayer really gets to the back of the intercooler where a lot of heat buildup occurs.
The body of the M62 has been mounted to the nose of the M45 and my 17% Promini pulley is still there. They will determine over the next few days of dyno testing whether we will keep that or go with a stock pulley for this application.

Uh-chem.. I'd like to get in line.. if we're taking numbers.
Also, if they need a prototyp-er on the west coast, I'd be more than happy to test it in less humid conditions. I'm also about 3 blocks from Edge Motorwerks who happens to have a dyno, and Erik is more than capable of tinkering...

Before with the M45 I think it was pushing close to 15psi of boost. From my understanding the M62 has better flow with less restriction therefore the boost pressure should be lower. They haven't set a price yet, and it seems like the kit can be installed without taking the motor out of the car.
BTW, when is the Tail of the Dragon meet for Minis?
DAAAMN.....IM IN LUV.....BUT WILL THE PRICE BE WORTH THE OUTPUT COMPARED TO THE TWINCHARGED SETUP OR OTHER WAYS OF BUILDING THE MOTOR. THE FORD FOCUS KIT USES THIS BLOWER N YOU CAN SEE HOW STEEP THE PRICE IS FOR THAT KIT. I DEF WANNA SEE THE NUMBER BEING PUT DOWN....VERY IMPRESSIVE GUYS. IT WAS ONLY TIME SOMEONE DID IT.

HERE IS THE PRICE FOR JUST THE S/C FROM THIS COMPANY

OR YOU CAN FIND A USED ONE FROM A CAR THAT CAME FACTORY EQUIPPED LIKE A BUICK RIVERA

rethinking my mod plan...
Hey guys,
I'm not exactly new to NAM but I don't post that often, just surf around reading all of the interesting posts from y'all...
This is definately VERY interesting. Does anybody have an idea of a price range for the finished kit?

Looks very nice, clean and simple looking. I didn't know you could interchange certain Eaton blower parts [i.e. the M45 nose on the M62 body!]. One problem; I don't see a bypass valve. I'd love to see a dyno plot [with IAT and PSIg please] to see how the blower drag compares to the M45.
Cheers,
Ryan

I have a call into the developer (DDM) and they are working on costs etc.....this same guy has brought to market another popular part under someone elses brand name....these guys do great work and we got talking about this maybe a year ago.....they were going to use my car for the "mod" version but wanted something close to stock to see what the package would offer... Ryan, you lucky guy...... anyway I would like to ask about what the market would bear..... what is the no brainer price, what would make you break the piggy bank, what is maybe a little out of reach and what is God awful expensive? This has been a dream of mine as I just don't want to go turbo..... now this is exciting

Hmmmm
You're about 4 hrs SW of me.
We'll need to find some neutral ground after this thing is installed. I need a look see.
My car is going out of warranty next month. More options will become available after that.
This is actually something I have been waiting for.
'm very interested, too. If anyone has any additional info please pass along. is this unit still in the R & D stages? I'm wondering a possible timeline for public release.
I remember there was a post a while ago about an upgrade supercharger in Europe somewhere. Anyone know what I'm talking about (post a link)? Did this ever make it to North America? I wonder how it compare to this one.

Couple of questions about superchargers in general...
What makes the M62 better than our stock M45? I see Ryan said it has better flow and less restrictions, does that just mean that the M62 puts more cold air into the mix than the M45? What makes this new supercharger capable of 300 whp and not the M45? (I am in no way doubting this supercharger, I just don't know enough about superchargers to know what makes this one better or more efficient)
If I were to go with this new supercharger, what other mods would I have to do to accomodate this new addition to make it as reliable and streetable as I am used to? I see that an electric water pump is a must and probably a reflash of the ECU, but what about larger injectors or bigger intercooler? What always discouraged me about the TC kits was that there were so many other expensive things you had to do to the car to keep it streetable.
Regarding price, if the M65 was strapped onto my car and instantly gave it around 250 whp, I would easily pay $2,000 for it. Although, if I need a host of other add on's to make it streetable and it gets closer to $4,000, than I don't think it would be for me.
With Mini on the brink of releasing the MCS as a Turbo soon, its cool to see that manufacturers are still investing in new technology for the existing MC and MCS. Thanks for being patient with my questions and all the info, I can't wait to see where this goes.
If anyone doesn't want to explain the answers to my questions, but has links to other websites with information on this topic, I would love to read up on it.
