Drivetrain Project X-300
we're always trying to save... even me.. LOL other wise my car would be done! and I would be on to the next project!....
skeptical... that's your perogative... I like many others have been there done that.... LOL... it just costs money...

For the sake of your point... lets say you could get a head and pistons for 2k... let's go from thre...
head and pistons 2k
Turbo 1500
BOV 300
injectors 500
clutch/flywheel 1200
LSD 1200
Turbo intake manifold 1500
electric water pump 300
interkewler and piping 700
misc... including but not limited too.. welding and fitting, lines, fittings, etc 1200
need I go on.... some of these prices are very fair... for instance my clutch fly wheel set up is 1800... and from what I know a head is 2k, pistons are 600 and the proper head studs from arp are 150
LOL try 13k just in parts... as Kalbone he just did it... or AZMCS... or or or
... sure I am only at 7k now... but when mine is done.. and I do labor my self it will be... mmmmmm.... 11k not including the parts I got for sponsorship or cheap... if I include those... I am back up around 14k... but that's when I am dont....
oh and that doesn't include proper brakes, suspension, tires, and wheels to go with all that power... cuase I'll tell you what... when you can get to 130 in just over a quarter mile things can get real hairy real fast... and you need to be able to slow down and turn just as fast as you can accelerate...
oh and I forgot the body kit to fit the tires wide enough for getting proper traction... LOL wooo! can't wait for that... or I sell the car before then and get something RWD LOL cuase I miss being sideways and still having control...
but the difference in power you can make at a similar boost.... Turbo will always be the way for BIG results... but the Rotrex offers a nice compromise for those who don't need/want all that.... 300 WHP in a mini is no joke... let alone 400 and 500...

I'm just trying to put thing's into perspective.
So are you saying with the Rotex kit, you dont need proper tires, wheels, brakes and suspension???
And the wide body kit does exist
I have been driving my mini with a relatively stock suspension and brakes with out a problem... but I also know when enough is enough... LOL... there are plenty of crashes with stock cars on twisty roads all the time.... cuase some don't have as much expirence as others... that's all...
for me with the extra 50+ WHP I now gained with the front mount and being in a smaller town with smaller roads... the HP is needing better stopping.... which means not just brakes but tires to hold it
check me sig... there's one of em....

My point is that common ground needs to be set...LB's mini already has the head, clutch, flywheel, rotex, Intake manifold, electric water pump, LSD, misc and ect...I would find it very hard to believe that he doesn't have 8K+ invested if he had to pay retail price.

why don't you compare apples to apples
the JCW kit is the standard to which after market mods are compared to.
JCW kits don't have clutch/LSDs in thier kits so why compare it to everyone elses? Anyone knows when you actually MAKE HP you need to stop.
I have no first hand experience with turbo systems, so I have no idea how to itemize out such a kit.
Huh? 2k for a head and pistons? My head alone was $2,800 installed, pistons are another 600+ for a good set, + install, a turbo with injectors and the custom fabrication required, plus install, and tuning, you're looking easy at another $5k.

This thread is rather funny - it reminds me why I stop wanting to mod my Honda back in the day before all this import maddness. Even if you get your Honda Civic to kill a modded Muscle car, from the avg joe's point of view it's still a "Civic" - nothing more. Perhaps its better to upgrade to a Lotus or something else for the money.

I still have another 10k in mods left. Long live the $70,000 Mini

True, but I don't know too many people that can fit inside them. At 6'2" 225lbs, i was only able to get my right leg in.

"This car is fully equipped with the Forced Fed 275 kit, plus a few tricks of our own. I have spent several dyno sessions building a custom ECU map for it as well. The car is fast and reliable. It uses a Spearco intercooler, a Garret turbo (GT28-R), RC Engineering fuel injectors, a custom downpipe and cat-back, all of the included plumbing from the FF275 kit for the intake, intercooler and throttle body, a trick port on the throttle body, and Redline oil and water wetter.
We also have spent time tweaking the suspension, and ended up with our own trick set up using factory bits (I'll let you know the secrets if you buy the car).
I had Team Dynamics make wheels for the car to our specs - a 17x7 front and a 17x8 rear wrapped with Toyo RA1 tires, 205/40 fronts and 235/40 rears.
The car also uses Motul RBF600 brake fluid and Hawk pads.
In addition to the mechanical tweaks, we have painted the center console to match the exterior.
The car has great compression, and only has 8,100 miles on it. It is an '05 with the Touring package and Start Shield originally fitted.
This is a street car and has only been to the track twice - once at Second Creek near the end, and once at the close of PPIR, both were just open track days.
For sale for just $43,000! The FF275 kit is $8700 and labor for installation is $2000. This is a screaming deal, because I can't sell the race car!"
The Mini is nothing like a Honda. I get so many compliments on my car each day (that never happened with my Honda) Everyone from old to very young loves the Mini. Plus it hurts really bad to get beat by a Mini, no one wants to tell that story. For the people that don't care for the Mini, change their mind real fast once they ride in it.
I still have another 10k in mods left. Long live the $70,000 Mini

...then the practical aspects set in.
The Mini is as close to a daily drivers drivers car that you will find, even more so considering the price range. Key: Daily Driver
Again, I would absolutely kill to have one, but at the end of the debate I always swing in favor of the Mini alone.
Oh, and screw you
...that is an incredible offer.Next step, realistically, will probably end up being the Cayman S for me. I hope that a swap-out to a Rotrex on the Mini might change my thinking. I really do have high hopes for this, and I wish all intimately involved with the project the best.

250WHP is no longer
! I know this means nothing without numbers and a chart but Jans not done and he will show the finished product very soon.
I took the day off work to watch Jan work on the tune on the dyno. It was a nice 90 degree day out at the dyno. This place was very cool. They even have a climate controlled engine dyno. I was surprised that they only had two small fans. They blow air at about 25 MPH. It didn't matter though. The car ran for ten minutes before the first of 5 base runs were made. They never turned the car off once between the runs. From the first to the last the car pulled within 2hp up or down from the first. This was amazing. It never heat soaked. I HAVE THE STOCK IC AS WELL!!! The results at the end of day one are just awesome. Jan did a great job.
The ride home took 45 minutes. It should have taken an hour but I couldn't help but hammer it. My water temp never got over 185 the whole trip. The car pull super hard yet is really smooth from idle to red line.
The best part is there is more to come.
Longboard
