my f-in-law is not very cool. he's more of a typical j-business guy who's
cool(?) while talking work at biz lunches, etc. but not when it comes
to family stuff. his house is a mess too.

Ahh...its been a couple days since I've been on NAM. Just got back from some great motoring, beautiful evening for it! Detailing job tomorrow at 9 AM, then find time to do the MCS in the next 2 days....summer definitely feels like its winding down.

man, i need to get new pliers. mine are starting to rust. WTF
i used some wenol and coated with some oil for now, but im definitely
going to get a stainless set of pliers next.

btw, the ups store that was online where i was planning to drop-off
the snap-on calltag was apparently no longer in existance so i had
to drive back all the way close to work to drop it off. wtf is
with this tool buying pita trend?

I'm more familiar with the Northern Prefectures of the main island of Honshu. I lived on the tip, right near Hokkaido.

Yeah, what can you expect from a town that produces the Corolla ??

Howdy boys... Blimey's nasty again (rained last week, drove about 700 miles, then went out of town for the weekend)... will wash this weekend if not before...

Just got through sanding and color coating my new roll hoop covers... did about 20 very light coats, with time to get tacky between each one... will let them set up for a couple of days and then clearcoat... applied a coat of adhesion promoter first....

Props to joshamman for the idea...

I have a question- should I put the touch up paint on after I detail (clay, etc) the car or before?

Clay first. And if you're going to polish, I'd do that before the touch up, too.
The wax, after the touch up, of course.

Clay and polishing might disturb the fresh paint. Wax, of course, will protect it.

hey my sparco memory foam harness pad just arrived.
(im kinda feeling ikky this am so taking a few hours off work.
it was actually due to this morning's MCS drive where some dump trunk
or something dropped a huge blob of grease and it got all over my
car. had to rewax half of my MCS and kinda overworked myself
due to too much speed thinking i would still make it ontime to work )

anyway, i tried the pad on my G's seatbelt. wooo~ feels good! vroom vroooom!

then i look at my hand... it's like brown.

the dye in the pad got on my hand and my white undershirt.

so i washed one just for the hell of it under warm water and used
Griot's MF Cleaner. man the first few rinses were dirty.
after about 5-6 rinses the water was clear. so now, hanging it
to see how well it dries... i can tell you that the SPARCO logo was
bright white, but now it's a nice gray. actually i like it better.

So would it be ok if I did the touch up parts tonight and then wax the car tomorrow? I would prep the touch up areas before using clay, etc of course.

ken, was that post so important you had to say it all twice ?

And I bet your gray lettering turns back to white when they dry. Sorry ! Probably just look that way while they're wet.

Okay... guys... help me decide how to spend some money. I'm thinking of three different ways to spend some. Two of them involve the JB MCSC, one of them involves my CR Cooper.

1. New wheels for the convertible. The OEM ones are the S-Lites. They are a little beat up from the previous owner, some curb rash and scratches. Plus, they don't show off the red calipers. So... thinking of these:

Offset: 42mm Backspacing: 5.65" Bolt Pattern: 4-100
Rec. Tire Size: 205/45-17
Weight: 15.0lbs.

2. Also for the convertible, as I discussed about a week ago.... JCW CAI and 15% sc pulley. Would enjoy the extra HP but we don't drive the convertible all that much and when we do, it's normally together and my SO already gets pissed at me when I exercise that supercharger a little "too much".

3. On my CR Cooper... I've been complaining in another thread about that blasted plastic trim around the wheels and the polish marks that I can't get off. I'm thinking about just replacing it. But hey, while I'm replacing the plastic trim, why not get it painted CR body color ?? Would look nicer, and I wouldn't have to worry about taping it off any more.

So, what do you think ?

New wheels ?

JCW CAI and 15% SC Pulley ?

New body color trim ?

I'd let that touch up paint set up a little longer. Wax around that area and then come back and get it in two or three days, just to be safe.

CR&PW&JB- yah, i couldn't help myself but post it twice.

as far as the wheels, i recommend the Dunlop SportMaxx tires in 205/45/17's
if you get those wheels. im running them right now on my MCS and
they look nice and wide, quiet, comfy, grips very well, and made in Japan.

the intake and sc reduction pulleywill be noticable to the person that
drives the car often, but not THAT noticable in change... it's livelier
but not crazy fastAr.

yah, if you get the arches painted you'll now have to worry about
chipping them due to rocks hitting the rear quarter arch. might want
to install a clearbra on the rear one. just look at the pair you have now
and can tell where the rocks are hitting it.

that is one of the reasons why if i do paint them, it would only be in
matte black color.

Thanks, ken.

No need for new tires on those wheels. I have a nearly brand new set of Falken 912's I'm running on the convertible in size 205/45/17. They look good and they perform well, too.

Yeah, I'm having second thoughts about the performance mods for the convertible. Given the way we use that car, just not necessary, I'm thinking.

You're right about the potential stone chips on the painted trim. I was complaining about the trim getting chewed up by road debris just recently, along with Mark. But I just put the front mud flaps on that MINI and it seems to help prevent the side trim and the rear wheel trim from getting dinged up so much. Clear bra film on those rear wheel arches would not be a bad idea though.

if your area doesn't get colder than 40F those 912's are pretty decent
tires. i have them on my FitS and its not too bad until it gets
to freezing temps and they turn into those cheap Revell pos plastic
model car tires. no grip wat-so-ever.

my G came with clearbra in front of the rear fender and it shows
some good hits. ive had to replace one side. running 245 width
tires in the front with aggressive offsets will do it.

No worries, ken... that's our weekend MINI and we don't take it out on nasty weekends in the winter. Those Falkens are definitely summer performance tires.
