R50/53 Do you wave at other MINIs??
Driving through western Kansas to a wedding, we passed a red mini from Minnesota. Both waved just as enthusiastically as we did.
I wave to everybody around the Kansas City area and usually get a wave back. Sometimes it is just hard to tell through the window tint.

Guilty!
(blog entry, 30 JUL 2006)
I'm guilty and this is my confessional. Today, I was a non-waver. But I certainly felt bad about it.
I now realize some conditions are not wave-friendly. Try ~80mph on I-15 south on the transition to the 805:
I saw the pepper white cabrio from 1/2 a mile away. I worked to catch up to her, meandering through traffic without driving too recklessly. Just at the moment I was in perfect waving position, traffic got really crazy and I almost missed my exit. Meanwhile, she was messing with her hair, oblivious to my intentions.
Hmmm.. Wave? Miss my exit? Wave? Miss my exit? Alas, I made the exit, waveless.
Forgive me MINI masses.
While I support the belief that waving is a required activity, I learned that waving should not superseed careful and attentive driving. Or missing your exit.

I never wave at other Odyssey drivers.
I always think of waving at MINI drivers.
Even when I am not in my MINI
I often wave at MINI drivers.
Some do wave back.
Some are in their own little private world and are not interested in waving.

Yes, since day one. And I've had mine since pretty much day one. One of the first three S's to hit the streets in Denver. It's funny that this was brought up as a tread. My brother say's we're a CULT.
I laugh and just say if you think so!

just came back from the keys and did pretty well with wave backs, or more flash/honk backs (i just cant brin myself to wave theres just something a little to..well whatever) i got pretty much a 1:2 honk/flashback ratio
also at one point on the trip this one guy had the sweetest setup he had a pretty sweet RV, with on its own personal trailer in towa BRG/W MCS, and like 3 kayaks, he was one of the honk backs, just thought id share because i thought that he had a pretty choice set up

I have only had my MINI since July 8th & there are few MINI's here. BUT I have to report I got my first wave today & gave it right back. We were 2 waving/grinning fools!
Hope to have that happy feeling many many times in the future!

No. And I notice all of us in MINIs tend to stare straight ahead lest our eyes meet and we face that dreaded conundrum--should I or shouldn't I. Anonimity in a crowded city is fine with me.
But I continue to receive thumbs up and positive comments--this never happened in my Lancia Fulvia. 2 days ago a man driving a PT Cruiser yelled, "I dig those 5Zigens." First time I heard the name of the wheel manufacturer pronounced whether correctly or not. And the first week after my new neighbors moved in they mistook my car for theirs (same color except for the wheels) and ran outside thinking they had forgotten to put it in the garage. Mine was the one with the parking ticket.
When the new series MINI is introduced I wonder if owners will wave and to whom.

I wave to all minis and all cabrios with their tops down. I don't care if others wave back or understand. I'm sure I miss some MINIs waving at me because of some preoccupation or another. And I wave whether I'm in my MINI or not. I'd like to wave to bad spellers, but other than myself, I'm not exactly sure who they are.
The most consistent wavers in the world I've travelled are Mexican bus drivers in Baja. On a road perhaps 11 feet wide, with half of their right tire overhanging the edge of the pavement, a Mexican bus driver in Baja will remove one hand from the stearing wheel and wave to you. Worse, I'll remove one of my hands and wave back.

Waving At MINI's
From the person recieving the flash or wave: Sometimes the reaction time from first seeing the MINI flash to recipricating the wave or flash back is not quick enough for the action to be noticed. Caused by either a quick blind curve or sandwiched in between two undistictive cars
.
As the person seeing the MINI: If I clearly see another MINI or Mini drive by, I always wave and/or flash lights/beep horn. If the sunroof is down or window is down, my hand is violently waving at the other MINI. I only perform this to other MINI's regardless if I recieve the action back. Most of the time, I get the wave back. The flashing is not soo often. However just recently, flashing at me has picked up.
Regardless of why or what the motivation of buying this phenominal car was... Waving/Flashing/Beeping should be standard to other MINI's.

I'm starting to wave at other Minis now and I'm getting better at it, but there are times when I'm just not in the mood to wave. Then there are times when the windows are closed so my waves will seem a bit strange or something.
I've also considering on honking my horn at other Minis, but it might annoy other drivers and I'm not the annoying type.

Waved to a silver MINI in Santa Fe today (I know, I should know the name of the color . . . and the roof color . . . but it all happened so fast and I'm so self-centered). The driver did wave back. It may me realize that I seldom see if other drivers wave back. There is the window tinting issue which is common among the MINIs I pass . . . and it ultimately doesn't matter to me. Be or don't be . . . it is up to each of us. I choose to be.

Do you wave? Do you wait until the other driver waves? Or do you just look at the car and not the driver?
I used to ride a motorcycle, and a simple wave was the usual thing to do. It's kinda neat to be driving a 4-wheeled vehicle and experience the same thing!

Wow, I was pulling out onto the main road out of my neighborhood. 2 out of the 3 MINIS i see around my neighborhood just happened to be coming in. Each of them waved to me and I of course waved back. This is so fun and makes motoring even more enjoyable! My girlfriend thinks we are silly and laughs every time. I think she will start waving too.
On another note, I pulled up next to an electric blue 04 MINI but the lady in it didn't even look at my direction! I was trying to get her attention and was waving like mad. ?(

The first MINI I encountered was a velvet red non-S. The guy could have cared less, about me waving, and clearly about his well-worn MINI.
The next MINI I encountered was a royal grey cabrio, with 4 occupants. On cue, all 4 arms waved at me, and I returned the wave. *woot*!
Today, I passed a CR/W S and we timed our waves perfectly! *happy dance*
