I wave... all the time. Half of the time I don't get a response. I'm ok with that. I understand that some people aren't car enthusiasts. They bought a MINI and they drive it. Some people just don't know the MINI culture and that's ok.

All I know is this, if I see them enough times and continue to wave, they eventually wave back.

I ALWAYS wave if I see another Mini. Of course, when I ride my Harley I always wave too. I'd say about 75% of the motorcyclists wave back, about 1/3 of the Mini drivers do. Wish they all would -- it's a warm, bonding, fellowhip thing.

Well my wife and I have this fist-thing going (kinda like the "punch bug, no punch backs" when you see a VW bug), so the first person to see a Mini, makes a fist but the thumb is inside touching the tip of the baby finger. Therefore the fore, mid and 3rd finger are overtop of the thumb...kinda like the letter "M". First one to see it wins i guess. (She knows some sign-language so i think thats where she came up with that! LOL).
Now this doesn’t really work when we wave at the other Mini drivers, but it was certainly makes the drive more fun.
At least she shares the same Mini enthusiasm as myself!....some of the time

I think the % of "wavers" is geographic. We live in western Mass and we get one of 2 distinct repsonses....1) enthusiastic wave/lite flashing etc or 2) absolutely nothing at all. Sometimes I think I'm driving the SUV while waving to these people judging by the reaction (none), but then realize they think they are only driving a "car" and not a mini and don't the difference.

About 50/50 split here.

I had two instances where a attractive female in a Cooper S waved at me during the winter. I love my car

OMG! I just got back from driving around town and I saw 4 MINI's! That is unbelievable around here!!! 3 of them waved, and the other one was infront of me at a drive through, so they didn't see me.

I also stopped one of them and told them to join NAM. I doubt they will, but oh well....I tried!

Oh, and like I said, honking first gets their attention so they see the other MINI, then they wave! It's soooo awesome!

Another idea. NAM "Pimp Cards" I'll link the thread once I create it.

Just got back from the dealer today (had to fix bonnet stripe. It was bubbling) and it's like Mini heaven around the dealership. I mean around the local roads there. There are a ton of them at gas stations, passing us, at stop lights. Got tired of waving.. <grin>

I used to wave when I first got my car, out of about a hundred or so waves, 1 person waved back and it was in a town 12 hours away. I quit waving because I felt like a retard when no one would ever wave back.

The more Minis...

... the better chance you have of getting a wave.
Today at the Mini Meet West run to Yarnell a young lady in a Toyota MR2 waved at us. And later a Ninja biker on the highway gave just us Minis (not the "others" in the pack) a thumbs up.
But some local yokel Minis have not waved today.

Started waving in '02 and have not stopped. But I find that while motoring about I tend to miss quite a few other MINIs. I found this out while motoring with my SO. She would see many more than I did.

So, it helps to have a spotter.

I at least TRY to wave at all other MINIs. Some just give me a wierd stare...

The other day, I was in an Infinity G35 (rental) and saw a mini comming up behind me.

He changed lanes and started to pass me to turn left. I gave em the thumbs up!

I will always wave

I just got mine 6 weeks ago and I always wave. I forgot to wave once, and it was my aunt in her Mini, my cell rang after I drove past and she yelled at me for not waving...I think I was off in La-La land when she passed. I won't forget ever again.
I like other car model owners to think that we all know each other, and we should! We have 4 Minis in the family, so the odds that I do know them are pretty good.
I was out on a Mini Rally last weekend with 14 others. We passed 3 Minis going the other way, 2 out of the 3 waved...I thought the one girl's hand was going to fall off...I didn't get the guy that didn't wave. He was in a Black Cabrio, with the top down and he drove past 14 Minis and I never saw him wave, smile, or even steal a glance.

I got two waves today from the two MINIs I saw. There are people who know the program. Gotta keep at it and educate the new people.

My wife waved at a fellow Nissan Pathfinder once and got the WTF? look. Guess waving is only a MINI thing.

I always wave. I waved today at another Jetta I passed while I was in my wifes Jetta. I'm sure they are still trying to figure out if they know me because I was waving like I would in the MINI. It's fun to torture drivers of other cars when bored.
