R50/53 Do you wave at other MINIs??
I always wave at folks.
It makes me a lil' sad when they don't wave back but I think maybe they just feel uncomfortable because normally other drivers don't wave at them.
We don't live in the kindest society these days. Even smiling at someone sometimes can provoke a nasty "What are you lookin' at?" attitude.
Waving kind of throws people off I think.... but in a good way.... even if they roll their eyes or don't wave back. It puts the thought into their head of "Hey, that person in the Mini noticed me and I must be missing out on something because they keep waving at me when they see me so I'm going to wave back and see what happens". What happens is a warm fuzzy feeling of camaraderie even if it's not fully understood and just on a surface level so to speak.
I look at it as a friendly gesture that's a must because I'm a proud of my car and always really excited about driving it and I would expect that anyone else that found a MINI attractive would feel the same way.

Well, tell ya what. Why don't we start a movement? True MINI-hearts greet each other. It's the way you separate the faithful from the imposters.

I always wave. A couple of weeks ago I just happened to follow an original Mini home from work for about 20 minis, when we eventually departed our own ways he stuck his hand out the window above the roof and gave what I would call a "salute". I waved back of course, bit hard though seeing as I was just entering a round-a-bout.
Whenever I see another Mini I will wave and say "Hi other Mini! You look good" No idea what started me on saying you look good..but I know how I'd feel if someone said Nigel looks goo (id be happy...hehe
)

Used to work well, but not much anymore :(
When I first got my MINI back in 2002 we all waved wildly! Now when I wave at other MINIs they just look at me like i'm nuts. Plus around here it's alot of waving which is why i think most folks don't wave back. But WTH I'm going to keep waving!
I too wave at every MINI I pass. Sometimes they wave back. It is hard to do, and understandable in the city due to traffic concerns. I find that on the open highway most MINI'S wave enthusiasticly when passing.
The other day as I pulled into the parking garage at work, a Mini pulled into the lane next to me. It is the same color as mine, SS/Blk. I was so excited, as she was right next to me I grinned like a fool, waved..and got no response from her
I was hoping we would met up again on the way to the elevator, but she most likely took the stairs to avoid me !!!!
I was so disappointed, she doesn't deserve to be a mini owner

Continue the good fight!
Now, now. She may have borrowed the car and was unaware of the protocol. The 'wave' is like the secret handshake. It lets you know who is really in the club regardless of what they're wearing.
I'm so pleased to see this thread. Just today, I noticed that I'd been waved to and I'd returned the wave 3 out of 3 times in the week I've owned my MINI. Today, on that third time a light bulb went off and I realized I was part of some secret code of MINI ownership that I didn't even know existed. I told my husband about this phenomenon that I'd obsereved and he told me it was silly. I tried to explain to him that it was like the unspoken motorcylce rider waving law and I thought it was fantastic. He says this law only applies to motercycles not to four wheeled vehicles.
Apparently not. All of you do it too!! SNAP!! I'm not crazy. I know the secret MINI waving rule that only the truest of enthusiasts share and I learned it without being told! WOOHOO!!!
I will now make it a personal mission to wave at every MINI driver I see from now on. I've also told the husband that when he drives Trixie, not waving will be punishable by immediate death by prolonged torture.

Perhaps a better punishment for your husband, rather than prolonged torture (he may actually enjoy that
), ban him from driving your Mini for a month or so.
I've been bit by the bug by a green/white Mini, on I-10 going to Katy a few weeks back. He waved and I couldn't help but wave back. I tried with a ChiliRed S lastnight.... nope I got the "what are you doing" look.... made me sad.
When I got my first wave, I called my wife and told her... she laughed then said she was glad I was in sucha friendly club. If you see a IB/IB S on I-10 flashing his lights... it's just me and Mojo saying hi
BTW I haven't met such a friendly group since I lost my 240Z a few years back, everyone wants to talk to you.
