R50/53 The "Can't wait for October" club
Congrats MEBOB! ( LOVE that interior!)...I found out Saturday that our MINI officially came in on Friday the 26th! Yeah! Problem is we have to wait until the 25th of Oct to go get it!
My MA said he will be sending me pics once they complete all of the "extra's" that we wanted. I'll keep you posted.

STATUS UPDATE!! My MINI is officially done!!   So my status, as of this morning, is at 160. The sad part about is that the next ship that leaves for California is not until Oct 8th, with an arrival date of Oct 29th. Me thinks I won't see my bundle of joy until November
I was hoping to be on the ship that leaves today, but I seriously doubt that's going to happen. Oh well, I now have more time to buy stuff. Thankfully, I'm moving next month.. That should keep my mind off the long wait! Congrats to all of you who will be seeing their babies soon!!

Well here's a first, the OL is more current than ASK-MINI. The OL shows In Transit with an estimated delivery date of 10/15, while ASK-MINI says it's sitting at the port waiting for a vessel. The optimistic 10/15 is nice, but I don't see the car getting off the boat, to Denver and delivered to me in the 1 day after the boat gets in on the 14th. Maybe we're not seeing the Don Quijote anywhere because it's moving so fast.
>>Hey thanks Ryan! That's so cool!
>>
>>That's too bad about the key. I don't really care though I think it's still cool. It does have a separate button to lock or unlock but I guess everyone was looking for something more??? The one interesting thing is that my key (the one in the pic) has the silver mini logo to unlock and the black lock logo. My husband's key is all black. I guess most people use that second key as a spare.
>>
>>Cooper4us: Thanks, I can't wait to see yours. Are you having the chrome grill and mirrors installed before you pick it up??? I need to schedule an appointment to have all my accessories installed.
>>
>>Chrisfb1: I just put a cd in that I had burned a bunch of music to and voila, it played! I don't have the aux input yet so I can't test it playing through my mp3 player.
>>
>>guru220: I can't answer your question, I have the H/K. (Oh I guess you probably already knew that from my pics) We should have an answer soon as everyone starts taking delivery!

>>is it only ther HK system that will play mp3's or the standard one too?
I have the standard stereo in my '02 Cooper and I was able to play MP3 files burned onto a CD with no problems. At the time we bought our first MINI, the H/K stereo upgrade wasn't even available.

Hi everyone,
I can't take delivery of my car today thanks to MINI USA.
I've posted the details under another thread..... Basically they haven't even printed the Certificate of Origin yet, which we need in order to take delivery of my car.
This is so frustrating...........

THe question is whether the player can play the actual MP3 data file, i.e. 700 minutes of music per CD - not whether you can make regular music CD from a few MP3 files. No one on either board has definitively said that this can be done with the stock Alpine unit, so this is the very first post that verifies this.

My friend burned onto a clean CD like 10 to 15 MP3 format songs. Once the CD was finished I was able to play it in my stock '02 Alpine stereo. We then put the disc into the stock stereo of his '03 Nissan 350Z and the thing did not play at all. We switched the disc between the 2 cars back and forth with the same results.
I am not 100% sure what to make of all of this, but my uneducated conclusion is that yes, the stock, non-Harman Kardon stereo unit fitted since the beginning of time (CD Boost radio) seems to be capable of playing MP3 format files.

Hmmm I'm confused now. Is your question still unanswered? I have downloaded mp3 files that I then burned onto a CD then played in my MINI stereo. Is there something else you want me to check? I filled the entire cd with mp3, wma and various other formats and they all played in my car! Let me know if you want me to check something else!

MEBOB, how many tracks can you access in that CD? For example if you burned 20 tracks, can you play all 20 tracks in the car or just 15?

Thank you ...thank you....
there is so much confusion on this matter. I appreciate the clarification! data file MP3s!!!
And yippeee that it works!
It's important to make the distinction between a MUSIC formatted CD burned from MP3 source files and an MP3 Data CD burned with the original .mp3 files on the disc. A MUSIC formatted CD will hold about 74 minutes of music, an MP3 Data CD will hold about 10 hours worth of music. If you can't load more than fifteen or twenty 5 minute songs on the disc you're burning a MUSIC disc that should play in most regular CD players.
If the head unit is compatible with MP3 Data CDs you should be able to put a road trip's worth of music on one CD.

See, ths is why I think you may be mistaking what your friend did. There's a big difference between taking some MP3 and converting them to a music CD and taking 150 MP3's and burning them to CD. Generally speaking a CD can hold 70 minutes of uncompressed music and 700 minutes of compressed music data format, ie MP3.
In any case, MEBOB just confirmed anyhow, and I'm pretty sure this is new for 2004 as no one else has this capability. Furthermore, I'm picking up my MC tomorrow!!
Katana, I'm not sure what's going on up in Boston, but we were on the same ship, and our states have the same requirements. So, I don't really know what the holdup is. Maybe NY and MA do things slightly different after all. Maybe I'll be shocked when I can't pick up it tomorrow!

For all my fellow CWFOers waiting on the Don Quijote, I've found a way to actually get data on the boat. The Oceanweather.com site hasn't shown anything, but the Penn State site seems to get consistant data. Here's the link:Don Quijote. You can take the longitude and latitude and track it on one of the other websites with a map. Looks like it's smack dab in the middle of the Atlantic right now. For future reference, the boat's call sign is SFQP.

where do you go to put in the ships call sign or see it, the TANABATA hasnt reported in a few days, it should be in baltimore right now, but I'd like a little confirmation.

I used the links on this page: Where's Your Mini. I used the Coast Guard page to find out the call sign for the boat. Tanabata is WC25535. Then use the Penn State link and enter the call sign. It should tell you where the boat is, if it is at sea. I searched for the Tanabata and there is no info, so I'd assume it's docked in Baltimore.

I inputed our callsign WCZ5535 into the pennstate site up there and there is still nothing.... but I wouldn't worry, the WW site usually has good information regarding the schedules, and it has the arrived date for Baltimore as yesterday so, I bet everything is on schedule...
