R50/53 The "Can't wait for October" club
I hope I can get mine a little sooner than that. I haven't ordered mine and already I've been obsessing over the car like a madman!
October, and 6-8 weeks after that!?!?!
Geez I better just order mine ASAP, I don't think I can wait that long!!!
So much for enjoying one this summer. :???:

I am supposed to get mine in October from Long Beach Mini. I have been on the wait list since last October, so I guess that the one year wait they quoted me was right. It's been pretty hard to sit on my hands and wait, but it's almost time.
I placed my order last month with a deposit. but it won't get fully specked until end of this month. going to be an August build. should show up in end sept but more likely Oct. can't wait to pick up my dark silver S with all 3 packages and drive it home from Utah to California.
Don't want this thread to slip too far back..... We're also in line for a 2004 MCS in October. The one bummer about this wait is that I keep second guessing my specs while there is still time to change the order. The one big change I'm leaning toward is NOT getting the sport package. Mainly because I like the idea of 16" wheels on these "not so smooth" Seattle streets. I can add the fog lights seperately for minimal cost. Other than that I think I can survive without the rest of the package. Anyone else wrestling or finished with this decision?
PAR SHOOTER,
THAT IS MY PROBLEM AS WELL. I STILL HAVE 2 WEEKS TO FIGURE EVERYTHING OUT. I LIKE THE IDEA OF PERFORMANCE AND LIKE THE LOOKS OF THE S LITE RIMS BUT I WANT A SMOOTHER RIDE. I HAVE SOME ROUGH BACK ROADS THAT I COMMUTE ON. I HAVE TO HAVE FOG LITES, I WANT THE DCS AND THE XENON. TO ORDER THOSE SEPERATE WILL BE CLOSE TO THE SAME PRICE. I THINK I WILL JUST ORDER THE PACKAGE AND SEE HOW IT GOES. IF I DON'T LIKE IT I WILL TRADE OR GET CUSTOM 16' RIMS AND NON RUN FLATS WHEN I NEED NEW TIRES.

I, too, passed up on the MCS' sport package. I much prefer the standard 16" V-Spoke rims and tires over the heavier and rougher riding 17" combo.
Here is my spec as it stands today for my '04 MCS:
Chili Red/ White Roof
Harmon Kardon Stereo upgrade
Fog lights
Rain sensing wipers
Self dimming rear view mirror
Trip Computer
Sport MFSW
Sport Panther black Leatherette seats
16" V-spoke silver wheels
Magnesium door panels with Alloy Patina interior trim (I might change this to black door panels and Anthricite, not sure yet).
That's it. I have been toying with the idea of getting the panorama sunroof and the climate control (Which would mean I would have to add the Premium Package) but I am still over the fence. I think I am going to stick to the original spec sheet listed above as to me I have the perfect balance when it comes to useful options.

MY DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY AUGUST BUILD OCT DELIVERY WILL BE A 2003 YEAR MODEL NOT AN 04. I DON'T CARE EATHER WAY AS IF IT WAS AN 04 MY INSURANCE WOULD PROBBABLY BE HIGHER. ALSO WHEN I GOT THE QUOTE FROM MY INSURANCE THEY QUOTED ME 1 DOLLAR MORE FOR A COOPER. IT SAVES ME 2 BUCKS A YEAR TO HAVE A S. FUNNY I THOUGHT FOR SURE A COOPER S WOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS A SPORTS CAR.
I also skipped the DSC and I am going with the standard ASC+T instead. I hope that the rear fog lights become standard equipment by the time 2004 model year production starts in September.
Again, you can do much better going with the 16" wheels and saving some $$$ in the process.

Well, keep in mind that if you go for a 2004 MINI you will have better resale value not to mention the possibility of some extra goodies not available in the 2003's such as the rear fog lights.
If I were you I would wait for one additional month...after all what difference does it make to wait 3 or 4 weeks and get next year's model.
(Please unlock your CAPS as it looks like you are shouting and it looks a bit rude...

I'm on the verge of ordering an MCS but want to get the cordoba leather seats (suurently available only on the Cooper). I've seen elsewhere on this site that they may be available for the S in 2004. Does anyone know if that might be true for an Oct. delivery?
i'm expecting my velvet red/blk, 3 packages, xenon HL, HK system '04 MINI the beginning of Oct. This wait is going to kill me. There are only two other's in town. And absolutely no one is interested in the license plate holders i'm getting anymore.
But, i guess that what these message boards are for so......
"Let's Motor" for the back plate
and a Union Jack for the front
i just pity everyone when they start to build it, and i'm giving MINI updates by the day - because they do care as much as i do.

Cooper4us: I see you're waffling between alloy patina and anthracite trim. I test drove a model with the alloy patina and thought the brushed finish made it look kind of dirty. Maybe it was the light but I wasn't crazy about it. For that reason I was also leaning toward the anthracite trim. The problem is that I've never actually seen it in person. Is the anthracite kind of an "off black" or almost a composite material color? That's about all I can gather from the photos on the MINIUSA site.
Current specs: 04MCS, DS with white roof and mirrors, premium and cold packages, fog lights, rain sensing wipers and not sure about the following: white or silver 16" standard v spoke wheels and anthracite trim.

Well, that's it.
When I launched the first "Can't Wait For Club" it was for November '02 deliveries. Now we're counting down to October '03. One year of "Can't Waits"! That's a lot of waiting, and hangin' out online at MCO.
Way to go MCOers. You've created a special way-to-wait. (Can you believe the April Club - nearly 40,000 page views).
Who would've thought?
Post away - and keep waiting. Your sleepless nights are just starting. Sorry, but better you hear it on MCO. In the end - the Wait Is Worth It!
Hang in. It's almost October..........!
(Too bad your deliveries are too late for The Greatest MINI Event Ever! Maybe next year).

I hear ya. Anthricite looks very similar to carbon fiber and it has some "Metallic" reflective flakes. It looks very, very nice to the eye at least for me. The only problem with this trim is that it makes the car look pretty dark inside but it does give a high end look, better than the std Alloy Patina. If I decide to change my order from Alloy Patina to Anthricite, then I also have to switch the door panels from Magnesium silver to std Panther Black as the Anthricite would look kinda weird against the silver background door panels.
What do you all think?

I'm struggling with the silver/black issue on the doors too. I love the anthracite dash but I'm thinking I may leave the door silver to lighten up the interior a little. When you open the door it will kind of transition with the chrome?
I heard from my dealer that MINIUSA is changing the way they allocate cars to dealerships more in line with demand rather than an equal amount to all. (Meaning NWMINI would get MORE allocations!) I may move into this club officially yet!

Looks like I may be joining the ranks here, but I have to wait another couple days to see for sure if I get in on this months Cooper allocation at Long Beach.

Little help?
I'm spec'ing out an MCS and intend to place the order this week to begin my 8-month wait, but I am seeking some opinions on my config (pasted at bottom) and have some questions:
-I want to keep the weight down and don't really see a good place left in my config to trim. The sunroof stays and heated seats are for my wife. The Cold Weather package is questionable, but I'm in New England. Any suggestions?
-Any opinions on my config in general, such as anything glaringly idiotic?
-What are the best wheels for keeping the unsprung weight down?
I appreciate any feedback.

I would ditch the "Sport Package" along with the very heavy and rough riding 17" S-lites rims and runflats. Stick with the standard 16" V-spoke rims for less unsprung weight and the best balance between handling and ride quality.
Skip the DSC as it is not worth jack in my opinion. Save $500 and stay with the standard ASC+T. Those $500 bucks I would use them to get the Harmon kardon stereo upgrade instead (if you acre about the stereo sound quality, if not you'll be happy with the standard stereo)
The sunroof is nice , but remember it ads 60 pounds of weight to the car and it lacks a solid interior sunshade (But this may change for the 2004 model year).
Since you live in "winter wonderland" New England, the cold package is of added value to the car. Since I live in hot and humid Florida is a waste of moola ($$$). It is beyond me why people in Florida order the Cold Weather package....
The automatic A/C is a questionnable choice. Doesn't seem to work as advertaised, it is noise and requires frequent manual corrections, which pretty much defeat its purpose. Stick to the manual A/C controls...they work great every time all the time. Why would you need automatic climate control in a car the size of the MINI anyway?
I would also recommedn the Leatherette sport seats over the space cloth. The Leatherette is superior to either, overpriced leather and the no cost cloth option. It makes you car look upscale, provides excellent durability and comfort all without braking your bank accout. Remember that the leatherette is the same material fitted to the $30K+ BMW 3 series. have had it 10 months in our '02 Cooper CVT and the seats still look factory fresh!
Finally, I would pick the Anthracite dash trim over the standard MCS issue Alloy Patina trim. I am changing my current order from Alloy patina to Anthracite...the car looks miles better with the latter.
The MCS is best enjoyed if you option it conservatively. The less money you spend in options will yield you a lighter more appealing car IMO.
Good luck.

I have to second the above suggestions. Eliminating the sport package definately saves $ and weight. I have to say we're sticking with the premium package though, mainly because of the sunroof. We don't get all that much sun around here (Seattle, WA) and when it's out we want to bask in it! That and the real reason is that my wife might not approve the order if I took the sunroof out!
