R50/53 The "Can't wait for October" club
i'm going to get my DS/W S next month. hopefully it will be a 04 and get here in Oct. My best option on the Mini is the NAV. I have never had a car with NAV. I'm sure i will have a NAV in my first new car.
Anyone has news on the 04 NAV?

I would only be interested in the NAV system if it becomes DVD format based. The current MINI NAV is CD-ROM based. I also think that at $1,600 sticker price, the MINI NAV system is quite overpriced. You could do better with aftermarket mobile NAV options such as the NAVMAN from Navtech, Magellan, etc.
Besides I like the speedo in the center...it is what makes the MINI!

Thanks for the feedback. That was just the kind of thing for which I was looking.
I heard that the 17" S-Lites are 24lbs vs. 18(?) for the 16" V-Spokes. However, I won't factor in a smooth ride, so only the difference in unsprung weight will matter. What about the 17" R90s?
I was suspicious of the DSC. It sounds complicated, which is usually bad. How much weight does it add? Seems like it would be mostly electronic interfacing to existing systems.
The sunroof would be better as just a simple manual pop-up or slide. Too bad it is a motorized monster, making even heavier than it needs to be.
I'm genuinely disappointed to hear that the auto-ac doesn't work as it should. My southern heritage makes me a big fan of AC and climate control. However, I do like the carbon filter idea, because I hate exhaust smells and such. That alone would make me opt for auto-ac, but only if the filtering works.
I'll consider the leatherette, but the reason I didn't go for the leather is that I like cloth seats. Leather and vinyl are either cold or hot, never comfortable.
The car I test drove had the patina dash. I couldn't tell whether I liked it better than the anthracite, but it did look pretty good. I'd probably go with the silver if I thought it wouldn't scratch and start to look like hell.
Another thing I was thinking is that that aero kit might be a bad idea around here, with the rough weather. It would be great to hear from some New Englanders about this.

Hi to Everyone, this is my first post and I have now officially joined the "Waiting for 2004 MCS Club".
After months of research (minicooperonline.com and various other web-sites and publications) I have finally placed my order on a 2004 Pepper White/ Black roof, Bonnet striped MCS.
I opted for the following specs:
Pepper White
Black Bonnet Stripes
Black Roof and Mirror Caps
Premium Package
Inc. Multi-Function Steering Wheel
Cruise Control
Heated Seats
Automatic Climate Control
Tires: P195/55R16 BSW Run-Flat
Wheels: 6.5J x 16" X-lite Alloy-Style 84
Front Bucket Sport Seats
Panorama Glass Sunroof
Foglights
Radio: AM/FM Stereo w/In-Dash CD Player
Harman Kardon Sound System
I have until August to change the options on the car, I am thinking of adding leather (opinions?).
Has any more information surfaced on the newly re-designed powerplant?

I ordered my MINI in early June and found out July 1 that I didn't make the 'allottment' cut by three orders. The silver lining.......my order will now be an '04 and be ready in October!!! The wait is painful!
THE CAR:
Chili Red with White top (no bonnet stripes...didn't like the pinstripe decals)
Sport Package (with the white rims)
Cruise control
Multi-function steering wheel
and........
JCW!!
I haven't actually driven a JCW, but the dealer will have one installed for test drives next week. The 400 mile round-trip drive is well deserved for the potential cost, plus it's a great excuse to go drive the MINI for 30 to 40 minutes.
I know there's many out there that say the JCW is overpriced compared to aftermarket, but for those who care, here's my reasoning. When I head out to once-a-year car show all the Mustangs, and Camaro's, and what-not get lots of attention, but there's always that one car where someone got the cool option engine package and options that only three other people in Timbukto got. Everyone looks at that and thinks...."I sure wish I had gotten that". It didn't matter if it was more expensive then it should have been!!! Is it silly to think about buying a new car because of what it will be like to have in twenty years??.....sure.....but it's also pretty cool to plan on (and want to) having it twenty years just to see if it (JC)Works out.
By the way....I'm selling the '99 AND the '67 Mustang's to get this car.....and not shedding a tear!

Yee Haw! For what it's worth, September production numbers came early to our dealership. Didn't expect them until the end of July or early August. We've now got a production number for a 2004 MCS! Should be delivered mid to late October. So now we hurry up and do what we've been doing the last few months..........wait. Our dealer confirmed the 2004 changes that have been mentioned multiple times on this site already....pepper white/ beige seats availble now, rear fogs and 3 spoke steering not coming until December. No info on price changes, should be negligible.
>>Oh my goodness! If SEPTEMBER production numbers are already out, maybe I'll get mine soon! WOO HOO!
Count me in for October! I got my production number yesterday...
03 MCS
DS/Bl
Packages 1, 3
16"ers
xenons and fogs
H/K Sound
space cloth and anthracite...
OOPs! As you can see from my sig my dates were moved up--It is now scheduled for an August 15 departure from Southampton.

Hi there,
I'm in the "Can't wait for October" club as well!
I placed my deposit on 9/4/02. My spot on the waitlist came up for July production, but I decided to push it back for a September production in order to get a 2004. I got my production number about a week ago, and Owner's Lounge says Estimated Production Date: 9/5/2003 (Anyone else with your car being built in the same week!?)
Here are my specs:
EB/W, with white alloys, space gray cloth seats, and silver dash.
All options except Park Distance Control, and Sport Package broken up to avoid the 17" S-Lites.
I can't wait to get my car!

Our estimated production date is also 9/5/2003. We'll probably all be in the same production line! Or I wonder if all new orders for September get that date?
Our specs include:
DS/W MCS
White 16" v spokes
Packages 1 and 3 (no sport package).
Leatherette, Anthracite trim
Rain sensing wipers
HK system
Fog Lights
I think that's it, I think I'll also have the dealer install a clear bra to protect rock chips, etc. Happy Waiting.

I just checked my estimated production date. Still says 9/5/03.
