R50/53 The "Can't wait for October" club
Yo Chris, no need to stress, I'll have a later production date than you will! Found out today that my order won't get sent to Oxford until late this month, which means about a build date of late Sept., and delivery late Oct.
--->speedracer; are you expecting delivery in October? if so, welcome, and let us know your whole MINI config  The Chili Red on Tartan Red will look awesome, but forget about what everyone else has, go with whatever feels right!
--->speaking of tips: Raj, if you don't live in the snow belt, I'm gonna recommend you go with the 16" 5-stars; they come with run-flats, and look COOL! But you gotta get 'em in white to match your top (however, I'm biased
) Otherwise, go with White holey's, the 15" 8-spokes don't look the best with the Indi Blue, IMO.
Cheers,
Ryan

SpeedRacer: Being also from the Seattle area I've been noting colors as well. I have to say I've seen more Reds than Blues but either way I've seen more Silvers than either of those. I'm also not out and about driving around all day so I might not be the best to give input. Try to go with your personal favorite on color, in a few years I think there maybe plenty of all the colors so trying to be in the minority may be tough. I waffled the last few weeks but have kept with the original Dark Silver.
Regarding Jeremy at NW Mini, I really enjoyed working with him although it was only a week. We couldn't deal with the 16 month wait back in early May so we canceled our deposit and went south to the Portland dealer.

I dont quite know if this will be my month club yet but I have high hopes.
I ordered my MCS on thursday and my parents being the sneaky ones that they are went in on wednsday and told the guy to play dumb for thursday, about them coming in the day before that is.
Anyways he told them that even though my car is a 2004 it will be delivered in late september? Why? He says that they have a preproduction process that takes place before they build it. So it will be built at the begining of september and delivered at the end. Is this true? I dont believe it, not until I see it anyways. Plus this guy is only 2 months old at the dealer, so...
I guess I'm gonna go back to miniusa and look at all the production schedule.
Oh yeah, he hasnt e-mailed me the numbers yet.
Thanks

Bk_MCS: if your MINI is built in early Sept., you'll get it late Sept/early Oct. most likely. Also, what did your parents do? I'm confused

I assume you mean what did they do on wednsday?
They didnt tell me they were going that day, they said we'd go on thursday. They went and they both took a test drive, dads second  !
I'll go ask exactly what they did, hold on whilst I go downstairs (as if you will actually have to hold on, I just like writing like this
)...
Ok, they said they went for my mom. She wanted to finalize the pricing and do her test drive to see what the car was like. They wanted to see if they were gonna get the run around and such from the sales guy. I also told them we were gonna go back for another test drive before I leave in a week. So thursday was pretty much for my benefit.
How do I go about joining the october club, seeing as this is when my car will more than likely be delivered. I'll wait untill we get e-mail the vin# and such though just to make sure.
BRING ON OCTOBER!

Still haven't received my Production # yet...But here are my specs:
2004 MC CR/W
Tartan space cloth
Sport package
invisishield
Rubber front/rear mats
(still debating between aero kit, 17in. wheels, and whether she should be Indi Blue instead.)
I think my baby will be BUILT in October...but I'm being optimistic by not being in the November club.

yea, stuff like Tim's JCW install time and Driving light installation and Aero kit paint and install times I can't account for, and vary from dealer to dealer. I just wanted a fun statistical snapshot

Ryan....love the statistic info, I'm glad someones keeping track of it all!!!!
This weekend I did get another MINI fix
. I finally met my neighbors around the corner. They have an Indie Blue '02 MCS and I have been stalking it everyday I come home (take the long drive through the neighborhood to see it). Well, Saturday my wife thought she would be silly and kept making u-turns to drive by it and on the third of fourth pass we had attracted enough attention to have our neighbor coming down the drive-way, waving us to a stop. It was a great meeting, they knew I was serious about the MINI (instead of just curious) since I had my cardboard MINI's on the dash and my MINI book in the back-seat.
Well, after talking for only about 5 or 10 minutes they hand us the keys and tell us to take it for a spin!!!!!

Rye- My msrp is $24,369 due to my unique to CWFOC Cordova Beige leather, and I want the rear fogs so I can reclaim a toggle I feel is rightfully mine. I am not getting DSC so will I still be short a toggle. I know you back the DSC but how do you feel about the 17's. I want to drive and drive my mcs and hear the 16's provide for a more comfortable ride for long road trips. Went on-line today and purchased my personalized license plate [ BIGSBAD ]. Thanks so much for the outlet. Eb/w is a awesome looking combo, I've seen a couple in Santa Barbara, but don't see to many in black. I think a lol of the character is lost in the Black. Pure silver is awesome too, how come no PS in this group or no BRG?
[for you MCS people] about the 17" S-lites: I think they look fantastic, so much so that I'm getting them again. I know the v-spokes end up being 5.5 pounds lighter per corner (accounting for tire weights), but the aesthetic difference makes every ounce worth it to me.
What will the extra weight of the 17's mean? Handling capabilities will be improved if you opted for the Pirellis (performance tire), however regardless of which tire you pick, the ride will be firmer, the steering with be ever so slightly numbed, and accelleration and braking will be hurt a bit. These negatives will be enhanced even more if you opted for the all-season Goodyears (they are 5 pounds heavier than the Pirellis'!) The S-lites are also a bit easier to clean, with their flowing curves.
In short:
16" V-spokes: best all around performance choice
17" with Pirelli: better lateral grip, but that's it
17" with Goodyear: "I'm in it just for the looks"

Add me to the CWFO club, as I got my build date of 9/12. I'm adding the S to my 76 MGB, so I guess I'll now have a British car collection! It's going to be great to have a British car that hasn't been through the wringer with other owners before I get my hands on it. Here's the specs:
2004 Mini Cooper S
DS/B/S
Panther Black Leather
Anthracite trim
Rain sensing wipers
On Board Computer

White tail lamps
MINI Alarm
BTW..ankle still healing. I should be able to drive/walk right about the time of "Lemon Drop's" arrival!

Hey mil76 you should do some research on that OBC if you havent already. It is supposed to be inaccurate in many aspects and I dont think anyone would suggest it alone (only with premium, like me). Although this could have just been a problem with the older model years.

I am getting the OBC Trip Computer and the Sport MFSW (Both of which are components of the Premium Package) but I am not getting the Sunroof or the Auto A/C on my '04 MCS.
I like Trip Computers and find them useful. My last car had one from factory as well. Now MINI has added the digital speedo readout and the Average speed readouts making it even more useful in my book.

hey Kim, Great to see you here in The October Club! Our first Yellow too
(btw, what color wheels are you getting?)
Ok guys, the OBC debate is nothing to get your feathers in a ruffle about. New for MY04, the OBC will now also have instantaneous fuel economy, along with its' current features of trip odometer and fuel economy, average speed, and distance to empty. The fuel economy features and distance-to-empty are just estimates, and are typically a few percentage points off. This is on-par with my [now sold] '93 3-series. The OBC is fun to watch, and gives a good idea about your fuel economy. If this is up your alley, then it'll be worth it to you!
Cheers,
Ryan
