Did you bite the bullet and buy the tuner map?

I've bought MTH Tuner mao yesterday, and should received it today or tomorrow. I think the "basic" MTH is still a great ECU software and, for the price, it's a really good deal. You get extra HP, better drivability, and modded DSC. All that for 60 euros...

The MTH Tuner software costs more, but it is still cheaper than other ones... Franz put a lot of work in it, and MTH is also getting a lot bigger. They are about to release a lot of great products, and they work hard on every parts!

I'll upload my MTH Tuner file this weekend and I'll post a review!

I agree with you on this, and it might explain why I am not getting any of my files back from franz. Does anyone know if he is no longer taking files from people who have had theirs tuned once already? I am trying to get some new files on account of recent upgrades I have made, but I am not getting anything back from him, and it has been a month. I have sent the files numerous times both via email and website. I am not sure whats going on.

I'd say yes.... While the promises were vuage or implied, the idea of an open ended customer commitment at a single fixed early cost is business suicide. Every added customer adds to the support load with no increased revenue. That means one has to sell more and more just to pay for the support of the installed base, success leads to overload leads to failure..... So, while we were told we'd keep getting upgrades, I don't remember that the actual promise was for perpituity.... I actually think that if the situation is examined from a sustaining business model, this was inevitable, and should have been expected.
Also, it also shows that the new model is flawed as well. It just can support more base before it chokes. The only way to really do this, and I personally wish they would, is to sell the licence for the low fixed fee, and then charge $10 a map or so..... Guys like me, who've gotten 7-8 different maps, would have paid almost double, and been damn happy to. Others, who just get one, or maybe two, would pay less. But no matter what, the installed base would pay for support, and it would still be much less expensive than the alternatives, and we'd all be happy.
The only way this isn't inevitable too, is if the extra revenue allows for creation of an automation system, where you'd put in your requests via a web interface, and maybe an A/F vs RPM, and some target A/F stuff, and get it back with no humans involved. This could actually be a learning system...... That could be paid for by added customers, with little support costs...

anyway, dissapointing, yes, unexpected, no. Even with no power gains, the DSC and red-line changes are worth the cost.....

Also, if anyone might recall, when this software solution first appeared, it was billed as an introductory offer for the european mini community only..

And we all know that this did not last long, EVERYBODY, jumped on the band wagon.

I am shocked that they have not raised the price of the basic system.

In terms of not getting files back, Franz was once again hit by a virus about a month ago and lost a lot of files..

If you have not gotten what you expected, I would resend..

I have had to send files several times, and DID finally get a return..

I have the new MTH software and will post some impressions in the next couple of days. The new software keeps the radiator fan running all the time including about 3-4 minutes after you turn off the engine. MTH says that this lowers the temp by about 20 degrees C. I thought the fan was always on while driving but I guess not. Any comments?

My comment would be - yuck, I don't like the sound of the fan on all the time, but I guess I'll get used to it, if the performance is better

I was thinking of getting a cable for myself, but was curious to know if anyone in the NJ area has a cable? I am thinking of getting the MTH software in a month or so after i get my exhaust on.

I just talked with MTH and their software turns the fan on at a lower temp. So I guess it is not on all the time but turns on sooner based on ambient temp.

That's interesting. I really haven't heard the fan come on too often. I did hear it come on once when I parked it and it was loud.

I am looking forward to hearing the difference between the standard and tuner maps.

I just uploaded my new Tuner file and the difference is really good.

At lower RPM (1500-3000), it has a little more punch, but things get very wild at around 3200rpm... From that point to redline, it really pulls a lot harder that ever before!

I didn't hear the fans coming on within 50km of hard driving... At least, not more often than before...

For those who already have MTH, it's worth it to get the new Tuner file. There's a nice difference and the "new" punch over around 3200rpm is really amazing!

Well, from my initial drive to work, it has a noticeable gain everywhere, most noticeable to me from idle to 3000. It's not a night and day difference, certainly not as much of a change as even stock to 15% pulley - but a very nice boost, still very smooth, just more power!

he has almost 5500messages, and he doesn't know about MTH and DSC mod...

He seems to believe that there's no way the ECU can control the DSC sensors, but he agrees that DSC is controlled by sensors...

What are those sensors are connected to my friend? lol

Anyways, I've had my MTH Tuner for a week now, and I still love it! Definitly worth the $$$

What's that old saying? You can't compete with an idiot because he beats you with experience? Maybe, that's not it.

Just sent my files off for MTH Tune on Wednesday. Anyone know what the turn around time is right now?

Also if you live in Alabama I now have the cable that you can borrow.

Got mine back Sunday

It seems to be a weekend gig for Franz. I sent mine off for my car Friday a couple weeks ago and got the new map back Saturday afternoon. I sent my girlfriend's in last Monday and it came back Sunday morning. My guess is you'll get yours back this weekend.
Good luck.
Mine made a very noticable difference in the driveability.

So I guess the wait is worth it? I know the cable didn't take but 4 days to get to me which was way faster than I thought.

Anyway thanks for the info!!
