Let us know if you think its good. A Test map maybe an idication that he has found some more power somewhere and worth getting a map redone.

What did you say/ask to get the test map? What mods did you tell him you had? Did he give you any other details about it? When did you get your last map from him?

About a year ago Franz had mentioned he had a "race map" that he was working on. That he had found some additional power some where. I don't know if anyone ever found much of a difference.

The race map is for a 19% and larger injectors, and it's getting very good results, about a 10HP increase.

Is that hp difference applicable on a car without a 19% or only with the 19% pulley?

Hi Carlos, if you punch it in 2nd or 3rd and get above about 4000 RMP, you'll start to hear clicking or ticking from the motor as it screams. this is the onset of knock, and is called pinging.

I don't know race vs test for bubkis, but I USED to have some slight ping. And now I DON"T have a slight ping....

I'm getting some logging hardware, so I'll be able to post some data sometime in the next month or so...

That's compared to the same equipment and the normal MTH load.

I don't think I get as much power from the 91 octane, CA gas MTH than I do from stock. This is per my butt dyno only. However, the quick scroll down (quicker shifting) and less intrusive DSC make up for it. I've twice asked FRANZ for a map which combines stock a/f and timing and the foregoing quick scroll down and less intrusive DSC, but he ignores my requests. I did this thru his website, not some other email method. I attached the two stock files. If anyone has an in with him, or can suggest a better way of getting a response or explanation, please advise what to do to try to get this custom map.

It's more likely that he simply didn't understand you, he doesn't speak or read english very well.

You may need more retarded timing.....

I think I got more power, but I also felt some pining, and my data logger for timing looked really wierd (bouncing all over the place). I think your timing may be too advanced too, and the engine managment is backing it off, and there goes your power. Ask for a no pining map, and see if that gets better.

Dr Obnxs,
thank for the info... i ran it this morning to work rev till about 4-5k rpm and i didnt hear any different noise from the motor...
i mean keep in mind i have race header and magnaflow so my car is kinda loud...
do you guys think i could still hear the knocking over my exhaust and SC?
im really worry about the knocking...

kaelaria,
he didnt say much about the map.. as you know his english isnt very good i guess that limits him.

my mods are:
-19%
-L.W. crank pulley
-costume CAI
-180º thermostat
-pilo coil
-9mm
-bosch sparkplugs
-modified intercooler diverter
-race header
-magnaflow exhaust

i had asked him for a race map... before but as you know he only does it for 19% and injectors... but well he made me one for sotck injectors... and it is his first so he asked me to keep my eye out for knocking and if it does to send it back to him for remaping.

with that said... allow me to say OMG my mini so much faster! this map made a hudge difference!
im happy! i just wanna make sure i know when it knocks if it does...

The file I got back from Franz about two weeks ago was sent with a comment that the timing had been retarded, which should increase horsepower. I'd specifically asked if I should be making more HP, since I was getting less than with just the pulley alone (before MTH).

I've got the typical mods: -15% SC pulley, Screamin' Demon coil pack, 9mm wires, Dinan CAI, and Milltek exhaust - in addition to the MTH mapping.

I haven't dyno'd again since the latest MTH, but the butt dyno sure feels the additional peppiness - especially in the lower gears.

JCW injectors and 15% pulley?

I'm finally going to take the MTH plunge, but first, a couple quick questions to those out there who are already onboard.
1) I currently have a 15% pulley and an RDR intake but I got a great deal on JCW injectors and I'd like to add those to the mix. Is there anyone out there doing a similar combo with the MTH map? And if so, what do you think of it?
2) I'm also going to add a cat back in the next month or so. Do I need a remap at that point?
3) Is there a check list for mods and octane that you supply MTH before they send you a map? Or is it just emails back and forth?
Thanks

1) I don't have JCW anything but I can tell you that with MTH its very easy. Every time you get a new mod you simply send your map back for retuning. At no additional charge. I just sent mine for retuning as I am getting a 15% and plugs done Saturday. So when the pulley is done I will upload the new map and be off . Have about an hour drive back to enjoy my new toy and ecu.
2) Yes, and retuning is quick and FREE.
3) I believe the safe thing to do is tell him anything you have done to the engine. I've told him this for me: MCS Automatic tranny, 15% Alta pulley, Alta CAI, colder plugs, 93 octane. I asked for the octane specificalyl hoping for better performance since my car never sees 91 octane.

I hope this helps.

I have trouble with the OBD & Cartune setup. (serial cables, to COM3)

Cartune's reoccuring error message:
\"CarIdentBtn: Car electronics 000000 is unknown\

Anybody experienced this?

Franz recommended me to get new OBD interface from Sascha, and so he did, but the damn thing still wont work.
I tried another notebook, but without success (btw mine is a Dell D600)

can you guys give me any advise

well I bought the com port version from Sascha and it worked fine first time make sure you set the port rate to 115200 and the com port is set to 1 on your cartune also make sure that the cable is properly seated into the OBDII connector sometimes they are loose fitting

Then also make sure you close every SINGLE program you can thats running on the laptop. Background, foreground..if you can turn it off then turn it off. The program is very very sensitive to background apps.

thanks, but 'been there done that'

I took a closer look at the connector and the OBD socket in the Mini.
Comparing the pics as posted in the beginning of this thread I doubt that it ll ever work:

the 5th pin in the connector has no matching 'plug' in the Mini's OBD socket.
either I cannot clearly see the 'plug' in the Mini, or maybe this is standard?
can someone of you check this in your's?

the reoccuring error also appears when trying to ID without the cable inserted into the socket!

Sascha tested it and it worked on his computer...
I'm getting puzzled here

I still can't believe people by that cable with so many problem reported, and none from Sensolutions.

Which cable is the sensolution? I used the serial port one from Canada(can't remember the name) and it's been troublefree.

MTH Race Map

I installed Franz' Race Map a few days ago. This new map really has some get up and go. The most noticeable improvement i've noticed is in off-the-line accceleration. A definite winner! Man I'm having fun.
For those who aren't aware, this is the special map for the 19% pulley and bigger injectors.
