i'm new here. just want to confirm the correct OBD cables can be found here:

either the MONO-COM (24-EA-ISOPT-01-251) or MONO-USB (24-EA-ISOPT-02-251) will work with MTH, right?

I did MTH on my MC a few times and was pleased with the results.

There are 2 downsides to this mod though:
- Gas mileage: it's gone down because of driver's right foot is constantly on the throttle.
- a slight flat spot just before the 3000 RPM line, and sometimes causes the transmission to shift earlier than intended.

Gosh I hate when Franz takes a few days to get me my files back.
Sent them on Monday. Maybe he knows I have a M7 AGS to be delivered tomorrow and wants me to wait to put that and the ecu change on together.

Does anyone know if there is some kind of interface so that you could use a palm pilot to load MTH? I have new files back from Franz and he gave me a 91 octane and 93 octane version. I would like to be able to swap versions without the need of my laptop. Say if I was at the track. Just courious.

MONO COM or MONO USB?
Is there a preference for one over the other?
My laptop (Dell Inspiron 1100) has two USB ports and one COM port (assuming that this COM port is the same port one uses to plug into overhead projectors, PROXIMA etc).
I am leaning towards the COM, since it is $30 cheaper, but was curious if one seems to pose fewer problems than others.
After months of sitting by the side and watching how the MTH thing would work out, I think I am actually going to hike up my skirt and go for it!
Thanks guys,

From what I've read the Com cable poses less chances for problems when uploading and downloading ECU files.
Also the com port on your laptop is the one similar to where the projector plugs in. The projector one you speak of is a video out and its blue (female connector). The Com port is the same size and same amount of pins but has a male connector.

A serial port has 9 pins.. a video port has 15.
you are plugging your projector into a video port....
I have used both versions of the OBD3 cable from Germany and both are stable. I am currently running a serial cable with a USB->serial adaptor on a Dell laptop with Windows XP pro..
It took me several tries to find an USB convertor that worked, but it has been very stable.

I have successfully used the German USB adaptor on my recent generation Averatec laptop (zero serial ports, 4 USB connectors). If I were doing it again I'd get the slightly cheaper serial version and use it with a separate USB <=> RS232 serial widget (obtainable at places like CompuServe, Tiger & Fryes), just because the serial widget is also useful for things like NMEA0183 GPS boxes.
generally the 9 pin cable connector is called a DB-9
and
generally the 14 pin cable is called VGA
the number of configurations of pins is a whole heck of a lot. there are custom applications galore.
BTW
i love my MTH!
it has put fire under my seat! and thats not the beans talkin!

I have no problems with the Sensolutions USB cable, but it did take me a little work to figure out the correct setup and sequence. Some laptops will have a problem with it. If you really do have a COM port (very unlikely) then get that - there are no issues whatsoever with a serial cable. I also have a belkin USB->Serial adaptor that I use for other thing, like my Stalker radar gun. It also works flawlessly, but just costs you a little extra more. The most reliable setup is a Serial cable and Serial port. Next would be a Serial cable and USB->Serial adaptor. Next would be the USB cable. It all depends on your laptop.

Ok I thought I've seen it all, but this email I received today takes the cake:
Hi
I saw your site and it’s very good.
I do chiptuning and I need your help: can you send me your cartune, car id number and authorization code so that I can try to find a code to unblock the cartune?
Thanks
Luis.Proenca@hamala.pt
If this email is for real, OMG, this guy needs a life!!! Geez, I might as well send him all the serial numbers of my registered software, and while I'm at it, hand over my social security number and drivers license. I included his email address in case anyone wants to see if this is for real. Btw, .PT is Portugal.
Sheeeeesh.
