I think the e-gas is a separate system and beyond the access of an ECU flash. The modifications of the ASC and the off-throttle responses are (I believe) effected via the ECU tables in the software that responds as result of data being sent by these separate sub-systems. That is, the sub-systems are self-contained and cannot easily be modified (certainly not by and ECU flash); only the ECU's reaction to the output of these sub-systems can be altered.

If this is true, the remapping of the e-gas would most likely mean a change to the throttle angle sensor processing code rather than modifications to the ECU tables.

Interesting take. But the TPSs and the pedal sensors go INTO the ECU, not another sub-system. Bentley describes the partitioning of some of the elecrical functions, but why do you think you can only flash timing and fuel? The Seimens watever ECU we have is VERY programmable......

Thanks for the clarification, Matt. As I have loaned-out my Bentley, I could not verify which sub-systems cover which sensors; thus the bolded qualifications to my post.

I remember working through the ECU and sub-system operation when the "yo-yo" issue was hot. I wondered why the controller that causes the vacuum to oscillate the bypass valve couldn't just be "flashed-out". It turns out that controller could not be addressed by flashing the ECU. Mistakenly (no doubt), in tangential reading I though I remembered finding information that the e-gas system was somehow equally isolated. My bad!

When attempting to insert an interface cable into my car's OBD-II port, the cable would not seat. I couldn't get the cable in. When I examined the receptical in the car, I saw that one of the pin sockets seemed to be blocked.



I was able to insert a paper clip into that socket, but the cable won't go on.

Has anybody else out there had a problem inserting the OBD-II cable into the port?

Which cable exactly? No problems with my sensolutions at least.

 

I'm using the Ross-Tech OBD-II cable. It's is OEMed by SenSolutions, so it should be the same.

 

Solved it with the "bigger hammer" approach. But really, if you can get a paperclip in, try that again, and use it to open the front hole a bit. Check your OBDII cable to see if it has straight pins. If not, straighten them. It may be causing that every time you try to plug the two together....

Except now, the MTH Software is not recognizing my COM-1 port. I have the software set up for COM-1 and when I check my WindowsXP/Pro Device Manager, the active comport is COM-1. I don't see why it would not recognize the port. I'll have to find a different serial device to test the COM port on my laptop. It should work...it's a new HP/Compaq nc6120 with a gig of memory.

 

Anyone know if you have an existing cartune map - do you

A. Download using new .16 software currently loaded map & send that.

or

B. Send Original stock file using v14 prior to cartune - I did my v39 upgrade without reseting back to stock so my map might be a bit hokey.

I also wanted to get more info on what current mods are available since i last modded - at the time was reduced DSC/ASC mod was available.

I'm planning on sending my dyno plot too since I've been reading about A/F tweaks and might considering an AFC-II down the line also. Any thoughts?

But once you're past it, you're home free! It took me a while... I ended up running cartune on an older P2 266 Mhz machine running Windows 98....

hi all,
I'd sent some maps in over a week ago and hadn't heard anything. Someone posted that Franz had gotten a virus. I re-submitted this morning, and had the maps back in about 5 hours....

The ross tech cable will not work with MTH software, thats why you are getting the COM error.

 

I just installed the JCW injectors and did a new map to support them. Total time, about 60-90 min. I haven't driven it yet, but it was pretty easy.

I just got the obdII connector and cartune software installed with USB driver.
After I hooked up with the port and start to read car's ID. It stayed for a while and showed this error " Car electronics 000000 is unknown !!"
What caused that?
And when I checked device manager and also show the USB port as serial port instead of Virtual.
Anyone??

Have you seen any change in gas mileage?

My last upload (over a month ago) has resulted in a major decrease in gas mileage. I am almost ready to reload the previous mapping from Franz and see if it goes back. Sometimes I wonder if the results are even worth all the effort.

 

Like I posted earlier, I just did JCW injectors and a new map. I gotta say WOW! But here's the catch...

1) My old injectors had almost 56k on them. Who knows how dirty they were.

2) There's the new MTH, and I hadn't done a map for quite a while, and I'd hope that Franz learned some things tuning for M7.

3) My old map was a bit aggressive on timing, with some very slight pinging 4000-7000, not all the time, but a lot of the time. I asked him to address this and he says he did.

So I don't know what caused the difference, but there is one. So far, it looks like gas milage may be improved, but I haven't driven engough miles yet to know.

Anyway, I'll be figuring out how to log data soon, and then I can do my own A/F vs RPM for WOT, and hopefully get my map tuned via e-mail, and really hum along. If that all works out, it will be about the same as a UniChip or something, but reprogrammable, with the extra $ going to logging equipment.

I thought the exact same thing after a couple weeks, and reflashed to stock. It turns out that it was 90% my driving style that dropped MPG (by about 3). With the MTH I'm definitely on the throttle more, mostly due to the laxed TCS now. I don't have to baby it so much to prevent the power rug being pulled out from under me. My average speed from the computer is only 28MPH and I do all city driving, all stop and go, no more than 1 minute runs between lights, and 90% of that is WOT up to speed, brake, repeat. I'm getting 20.2 average over the past few weeks, and that's exactly what I would expect given my heavy lead foot

so i got my updated map from franz finaly! he is back

now he asked to pay attention and if it knocks to send it back... its a test map...

so my question is how exactly do i tell when my engine is knocking???
i know its kinda dumb to ask, but is better to ask than just think i can figure it out and mess up my engine....

i will let you know how it works... and what is it if it does "knock"
