Thanks for the info.
Once you're registered on the website there is a menu to download the software. Once you pay for the software you can download it and you get your keycode based on your vehicle's VIN. I just did it for the first time Sunday, awaiting files back from Franz!

(3) Correct.

I will try and kill off all background actitivies I can and run on AC power.
Using the Serial cable.
I found it out was to much garbage running in the background. I sent Franz my files in the mid afternoon, like 3ish. Got my files back within an hour.

What a difference this time.(2nd flash) Told him: Intake, 93 octane and cvt tranny mod. After a ECU reset it feels like a new car.

Dyno Result

Here are some Dyno results

JCW210, SS Header, MTH VS JCW210, SS Header

A bit disappoint on the mod I have here , JCW210 is not 210hp as they've claimed, i'm not sure how much Supersprint Header helps but MTH helps 5hp at 7000rpm (I forgot to set the rpm on Dyno at 7200, hence it should add a few more horses). I might sent the file back to Franz to adjust a bit, I want to see better gain across the range from the MTH (do I ask too much )

Let me know what ya think .

Interesting question. But for the $ how else would you get another 5hp with such a already heavily modded MINI? I need to Dyno my MC. Espcially after my last ecu. It really feels different. I can punch it from 40-60 and scare myself it moves so quickly. Or maybe thats just the air moving through my hair. Either way its fun with my MINI.

Just got files back

About a 3 day turn around for me. Not bad! I still have to install and see what difference it made. Also kyriian, if you need the program still you can PM me and give me your email. I don't see any problem sending you the software. I don't think it would be considered "piracy" since the program is useless without a keycode. Am I correct? If not then sorry I cannot send you the program!

MTH file and new thermostat

Am I correct that if I have a mth software mod, and I want to replace my standard thermostat with the cooler running 180 degree F one that M7tunning.com sells... That I will need to have the mth file updated to reflect the cooler thermostat. The guys in Germany are S*L*O*W to reply and I have not heard from them....

Thanks for any info

I think that the m7 thermostat attemps to keep the temp from getting too high and causing the ecu to retard timing and run rich. So the power gain is actually not losing power. IMHO you won't need another flash. Also it might be faster to check with M7 if you want a professional opinion.

Is that dyno from a data collector type or a roller type? Did you get the coolant and air temp back to normal between runs? My recent trip to the dyno showed about a -10hp delta when heat soaked. Our cars are very sensitive to heat, I watched a naturally aspirated car make repeated runs with no more rest than it took to reset the dyno and had the exact same numbers.

002 thanks for your quick replies

I don't know what Dyno you are referencing, but thanks for the suggestion about contacting M7, I will do that, and what ever I learn I will post here. Leaving on a short trip - back this Sunday.

Thanks for your help,

What is the different between the two? However, mind is done on the the Dyno that got rollers under my front wheels. Is this roller type?? About 5 min break each run. The ambien temp is arround 35c.

One is a regular shop dyno with rollers. The other is like a "g-tech" or palm pilot dyno. Are those numbers wheel or crank hp?

I sent my current load back to MTH with the note that I was getting occasional P0128's. Loaded the new code last week and so far there have been no faults.

Has anybody ever had the MTH to make your MCS run rich and cause it to smoke a little during hard excelleration?

I'm looking for someone in the East Bay or central valley area of Northern California that has installed the MTH software. I am reasonably computer literate but am not so sure about messing with my cars ECU. With my luck I would have to end up pushing it to Sacramento.
I just have questions about the install, backing up the existing software or reinstalling the factory software. You know just the typical computer screw-ups. Oh I forgot this software was not developed by Microsoft.

kendel72,

Recently my mcs was down on power, running rich, and smelled funny when accellerating hard (not sure about smoke). I had tracked the problem to the stock plugs being worn. After I put new plugs (denso ik22) in it ran like a champ.

There were four of us that had an MTH (3 MCS and 1 MC) flash party in Orlando. No dyno numbers coming but the car is smoother and pulls hard all the way to redline. Thinking of adding the VGS to see if it is possible to run even smoother

Pretty darn impressive for $75! And thanks to Joe for sharing his cable!!

Ron,
I recently installed MTH. I borrowed 002's cables. Thanks Jeremy! ECU updating is easy. What do you need to know?

So you think that if the running rich is causing the smoke then the hotter plugs will eliminate that? it is not that bad but when I first start it up and if I rev it some then some black smoke will blow out and also when you get on it driving.

kendel72,
I think that the ecu is trying to stop pinging by adding extra fuel and the super rich air fuel ratio may be causing the black smoke. That is my guess based on my experience and not being able to inspect your car.
You can start by checking your plugs. Mine were worn below the insulator and rounded off. My exhaust tips would become black within an hour of driving. After I changed the plugs everything was back to normal, infact I ran a half second faster in the quarter mile. Also, you want COLDER plugs with the pulley. For under ten dollars a set you can get autolite replacement plugs and see if that helps. PM me if you like and we can discuss this more. I hope this helps.
