Do Mini people still wave at each other??
Had mine for a couple of months now and I've received a grand total of two waves back. Got my second one last night on my way home from work from a guy in a red Justa who tooled along with me down the highway for a while before exiting at downtown Dallas.
I sort of feel like I've been letting everyone down. I've only had my MINI for a few months so I'm still new to...well, pretty much everything as far as the MINI community goes. I had no idea about the waving. I've probably been one of those people you've been waving to that hasn't noticed. :( But it's definitely something I'll try to remember to do from now on, excluding, in most cases, on the highway.
When I got my mini just over a year ago, I did not know of the wave. Now I try and wave to other mini drivers. Some times I get a wave back and sometimes I don't. Even if I don't get a wave back I will continue waving.
Minneapolis, MN: Lot's of wavers, all over, all colors, shapes, sizes.
Portland, OR: No waves, none. Seems to big a significantly higher percentage on the road, for what that's worth, supporting statements from several others about a Mini just being another commuter car.
No matter where, the more strips, checks, badges and stickers the likely the wave. Take away; put on more stripes, checks, badges and stickers!

I'm still waving! And when I meet local people in a parkinglot, I say that I'll be waving.
But, a return wave is getting much more rare. I don't even bother with the Clubmans, but do look for them to initiate.

Could it be that Mini drivers are stuck up???? That is except for the ones that post here? I'd hate to think that. Maybe the dealerships should mention the waving at other Minis thing when they sell 'em.

I'd say that Mini's have well worked their way into the mainstream crowd and the percentage of enthusiasts are lower. I experienced this with my MR2. I found that with my MKI MR2 I got a lot of waves from the few MKI's and almost all of the MKII owners. However, the newer cuter MKIII Spyder was owned by mostly girls who thought it was a nice "Cute" car and wouldn't even know that the MKII and MKI were in the same line of car. There were a few enthusiasts but it was mostly mainstream folks who didn't have a clue.
Mini has gone from niche enthusiast car to mainstream. This means a lot of good and bad. The bad being that you'll get less waves in return.

Finally, finally, finally got an unsolicited wave! Turning right at an intersection with both my hands on the wheel a passing Mini waved at us!!!!! Thought it would NEVER happen. I always, always wave at the same Mini's that never wave back, hoping to break them down....YAY! keep the faith, fellow Mini wavers!!!
I would guess thet the Mini wave will subside to just the hard core Mini owners just as it has with the Jeep Wrangle/CJ crowd.
As more and more people buy these vehicles just to be different or be cool you loose the comaraderie of the original owners.
I've owned many Jeeps for years and remember when you got a wave from almost every other Jeeper, now I barrely get any waves. I'm sure the same will happen with the Mini.

I also have a 2001 beetle and though I wave, people don't always respond. To them it's just a car. Now when I drive the old VW if there's ANY old VW a wave is always there! they can be in the bus and me in the vert or vice versa. I was in the MINI way out west on 88 yesterday and I saw a MINI going the other way. I did't wave because they would never see anyway, but as we passed we were both checking each other out
So sad to not get the wave.....I look forward to the drive to work and seeing Oliver in the parking lot after a long day at makes me happy. I guess some folks just look at the care as a way to get from here to there. Sad that they are missing out on the happy that is part of being a MINI owner. I still wave and flash my lights...and once in awhile, the resposne makes me have an even bigger smile than I already have from driving such a fun car.

Although I was in my truck so they could've been confused.
