Do Mini people still wave at each other??
That's funny. We went to Seattle to the golf show and then the garden show over the weekend and left the MINI home. I wasn't driving and saw so many Mini's that I wanted to wave at. (I'm pretty sure I annoyed by saying "MINI!" as I spotted them all) We passed some walking from the parking garage to the shows and I smiled and waved....and....got weird looks from the drivers. Guess it's just a little odd when someone is so happy to see you and you have not freakin' clue who they are. If the MINI is not with you, you just seem odd.....
I'm so guilty for that. On the road, or even worse is on TV. The best was I saw one in the reflection of a window on a show the other night. (Royal Pains maybe) Anyone else see that?
Just got it, but wave. My wife was surprised the other day when she got waved at twice. What I like is going through the smaller towns in Nevada and everyone waves at everyone once you get out into the farming areas. It really is a lost nicety that I wish would come back. It's nice to be friendly.
It's hard at significant road speed when the closing speed is usually > 70mph. I got a smile and a wave back when turning a corner with a nice young lady. We had time since we were going so slowly. I think that's part of the issue. much easier to see on motorcycles.
I got a nice wave on Monday from a lady with Texas tags on a MINI S nearly identical to mine (BRG, '02-'04). I ended up next to her at the next light, so we got to say "hi" and compliment each other on our good taste in cars....

I had the interesting experience to get into an impromptu 4 MINI convoy on one of the local roads in my town last week. Just happened that 4 of us were going the same way. Since I was at the tail end, I gave a friendly beep as we split up.
Had mine for about 3 weeks and not one or atleast i didn't notice.
Somtimes I think that some owners don't look at the CM as a true MINI or just don't recoginize it, to each his/her own, but hey I don't discriminate!
Motor on!!

Not that many here where I live, but there are some and they ARE Minis!!!Still I don't get wave backs all the time.
Most people who are leasing the car don't want to wave back. This is my experience. In San Francisco, there are many leasing mini. They lease it only it saves gas, not a real Mini lover.
Now, I only wave to those who have modification or customized their cars. They waved back. We chatted about our Minis when in parking lots. They are real Mini lovers :-)

I wave to every Mini. Only a few wave back. I actually had 3 in one day last week wave back. I have to say, those who do, and those of us who wave are happier people. Look at the smile on the person who returns the wave, you made their day and they made yours. Remember you are waving for those people and yourself!
Each month I think that this will be the last month that Mini drivers will wave to each other but someone will prove me wrong. I get a greater percentage of responses from Minis with temporary plates (new owners). Welcome to the club!
I have a Corvette in my fleet of cars and when I first bought it, C5 Corvettes did not exist yet, and I used to get a ton of waves. As the C5 Corvette came out and average people could now buy the car because it was now practical, they custom faded away. Now only a fraction of Corvettes wave, mainly ones prior 1996 and older. Very few newer Vettes will raise the hand.
I got a wave today but not from another MINI driver. This one was as unexpected as it was delightful.
While stopped at a traffic light, I happened to look over at the Pontiac sedan in the next lane beside me. The two adults in the front stared blankly straight ahead. Of the three children in the back seat, all but one sat calmly facing forward. But not so the little girl of about ten that was seated in the middle. Full of giddy exuberance, she was smiling broadly and gesturing at my MINI. Although no one else in the car took any notice, she was undeterred. She mouthed the words “I love your car!” at me and then touching the tips of her thumbs together and curling her index fingers inward, she formed the shape of a heart. I smiled, waved back and gave her a hearty thumbs up. A moment later the light changed and we were soon parted.
We know there’s something really special and unique about our cars. The little girl I waved at today knows it too. Cheers!

I gave a thumbs up to a Mini coming the other direction on the back roads today. I felt that was better than a wave as the wave might have confused them since I was out tearing up the back roads on my motorcycle.
The only people I see around my neck of the woods driving mini's are little old ladies. I don't think they are even aware that another car passed them.....and I'm sure they have no idea it was another mini like they are driving, and I'm even more sure that they aren't aware that you are supposed to wave

Although I was in my truck so they could've been confused.
