I cant say I have encountered this one before. The only thing related to this was me replacing the CPS o-ring that tends to go flat and weep oil.
Did you clear the code? See if comes back? If so, then it looks like you might need a new CPS sensor? It is a single 10mm bolt that bolts onto the front of the engine block. Last time I addressed this, I had my MINI in service mode so it was CAKE to reach and swap out o-rings. I believe it is a bit more challenging to attack it from the top or the bottom without being in service mode.
But there are videos on how to swap this out and various forums to use. Whichever one you are comfortable with using.

Benchmark price should be somewhere in between $80-85 I believe. Hope this helps.

Here is the pic of the item . Check the connection plug at the neck first for plug issues.
Took Barnaby to Autozone to get a code read ... P0340 (camshaft sensor) so now trying to figure out my next step currently..
I had a VW once that used to throw a code for the CPS when it was low on oil. The CPS is all about magnets so it's probably not your issue but don't rely on me alone of course. Check the oil level first, the old girl might be burning more than you think.

Thanks! I went out and checked the oil today all is well, but you never know thanks for the advice. I appreciate it

A friend of mine with a JCW r53 said his O-ring went out as well so it might be an issue I am having, I will have to look at the block to see if I can see any oil coming from the area in the pictures!
I used to have a garage to work on my mini but now I am living in a apartment and space/tools are limited. I wonder how much the dealer would cost me to have it replaced. Also how could I on my own narrow it down to being this issue? It was throwing that code and also the DSC light at the same time, is that normal? I appreciate your help and response btw means alot everyone !

Welcome! Do you have a friend or know someone with a garage? Dealer is probably going to charge you $500-550 to replace the sensor. I believe that was the price when my MINI was last at the dealership and I received that "report" on how your MINI is doing and what it would take to fix everything wrong. A) inflated rates, B) they will want to take the front end off and put the car in service move most likely to get to the sensor and replace it.

I do have a friend that might be able to help me. But it is going into the dealer on Saturday for tires, recall on seat, and oil change so ill just ask them what the quote would be. Crazy how expensive stuff can get. I am getting tires for a good deal through. Michelin PSS for 159 per intalled. Plus a 75 mail in rebate. Better than tirerack and dtd
Drove Barnaby up to Baron MINI in Kansas City for new tyres (Michelin PSS), fix the recall on the seat, and oil change. I got a loaner for the weekend as they have to order the tyres. 2015 MCS and I AM IN LOVE this thing is amazing, now I know why all the new MINI people are always so in love too! It sure is making me want to buy the new one!
Picked up a 2010 R57 in April for the wife. But really I have been enjoying driving it immensely also. Rear brakes finally wore out so I took the plunge on doing the brake job myself. Decided to go with PowerStop brakes, just the standard ones as I could not find any reviews on slotted drilled rotors being significantly better for the rears. I may go with the Willwoods on the front though. Was a pretty uneventful process although the incorrect sensor was shipped. So we're driving around with the error code on the dash. That sucked a little. New part is on the way I imagine it's not going to be to much effort. Probably crawl under with a couple zapstraps and change the connection.
Anyone had issues with plugging in the sensor? Anything I need to know about it?
I installed the MINI logo flood/projector replacement lights at the bottom of the doors. In case anyone was wondering, yes they are awesome. And yes you should get them too! I shall post some pics after dark tonight
Did a fuel filter change on my '04 R53 MCS (114,000 miles). Consulted the various online tutorials before commencing, putting down plastic in case of spillage. After disconnecting the battery, I decided to remove the passenger seat to facilitate the task. Waiting 'til first thing in the morning (for pressure to fade from fuel line) was a good move as there was little to no pressure in the fuel line when removed from the canister, so there was no seepage or spray of fuel. Indexed the retaining ring with a marker before removal. After prying the canister out of its recess, I gripped the lower part of the canister with a pair of oil filter pliers before carefully (to avoid spillage) twisting off and lifting the lid, which didn't want to come off easily. From there on, it was routine, as I removed the dirty filter (certainly dirty, but not as bad as some I've seen online), used a turkey baster to remove the dirty fuel, wiped out the inside of the canister, replaced o-rings (lubed with Vaseline) & gasket, dropped in the new filter, then put it all back together. After the filter change, I figured I'd remove the driver's seat as well and give the whole carpet a good vacuum, and wipe down and clean the seat mechanisms. Reinstalled the front seats, reconnecting the plugs underneath, then reconnected the battery, turned the key a few times to reprime fuel system, which if you listen, can hear when the fuel filter canister is full. Turned the key, and she started right up. Can't say definitively, but the idle seems smoother. Replaced filter access cover and rear seat after checking connection for leaks, reset the ECU, and checked the fuel filter task off my R53 to-do list.
Yes, the NAM DIY was followed pretty much to the "T" but where I modified it was to use the oil filter pliers to grip the lower canister, which made it so the entire filter assembly only had to be lifted enough (2" +/-) to get the jaws around it, instead of the 3-4" in order to put my hand around it, and secondly, it kept the assembly stationary and level, so at the moment the stubborn lid "popped free," there was zero spillage from jarring the lower canister, full of fuel.
Painless and easy, and with the seat removal step, it was also great to be able to properly clean the carpet under the seats in areas you could not get into with a vacuum.
