What did you do to your mini today?
Finally got around to installing the ATI crank pulley / harmonic balancer and a new belt on my R53, checked all the various pulleys for smooth operation, cleaned the road grime off and generally had fun.
At 69,000 miles the original damper showed no signs of failing, but the new one should be a lifetime part, and it's 2% overdrive so more fun is assured.
There is a nice label on the new crank pulley, with tiny print advising you that it is not going to be a slip fit . No kidding . As tight a fit as it is, I really think the bolt is just for looks!
Next up will be a new water pump, servicing the SC and a new thermostat and housing......

Good luck with the work. It is not hard just long hours.
Got back from the airport and drove Barnaby home about 200 Miles. Hit 131k on the ride home. Starting to look into tires and suspension as my Barnaby is starting to ride really rough and making alot of noise on the road. HELP
Connecting the sensor can be a PITA. The Harbor Freight tool set works great for me with pushing in the rear caliper.
Oh, I also swapped out the stubby Alta antenna for the stock one. The Alta had faded pretty badly and was fairly purple in color. Not happy with that one.
I am planning a December radiator party for the MINI. I get about two weeks off from work for the Holidays so I plan on replacing the radiator, lower/upper hoses, fluid, thermostat/housing. While I am in there, trying to build up the courage to go after the LCA bushings, power steering lines, oil pan gasket, dip stick o-ring and CPS o-ring.
Drove about an hour yesterday in the 95+ degree weather with the A/C on with no issues. Came back to my car this morning to start it up and do an errand and turned the car over and it started acting funny. The car turned over and was really struggling to stay on it eventually stalled, I pumped the gas once and then got it started just fine. The ESC light, and the check engine light stayed on for a good half hour. I restarted the car 3 times and on the third time both lights went out and the car seemed to be fine again. Not knowing what it was I checked all fluids and under the hood and found the oil to be a little dark (needs changing) and the coolant to be a little below the min mark. I checked it last week and it was at the max mark. Any ideas as to what it could be? Also does anyone know what type of coolant to use to fill it back to the max mark? Thanks in advance!?
Steffen - This topic should probably be it's own thread but did you check for any error codes? How old is the battery? As for coolant, I flushed mine after I bought it and replaced with MINI blue.

For the past 5 days my son and I have driven his (my old) 2006 R53 Checkmate from California to South Carolina, 2400 miles in all.
No problems at all, in a 9 year old car with 141,000 miles on it. And for the first time ever we got close to 30 mpg!
Today before making the last leg we stopped off at Way Motor Works in Atlanta. Oil change, tire rotation, fixing some issues caused/not addressed by my independent; and the son got Way's 15% pulley kit installed.
Way and his mechanic were fantastic. A lot of work at a very reasonable price in a short period of time. Couldn't be happier.

What're we gonna do tonight, Brain?
The same thing we do every night... LOG ON TO MINIUSA AND TRACK THE PROGRESS OF MY ORDER!
On the one hand, I'm regretting ordering and not grabbing the fully loaded black MINI at the dealership on Friday. On the other hand, I know that when I do finally get to sit in the MINI that I designed, it's gonna be perfect.
The problem is staying sane until it arrives. It's only been 4 days since we ordered and I'm already bouncing off the walls.

Even after just a 20 minute test drive, driving my Forester again was hard... and I love my Forester. Maybe I'll give it a good detail this weekend to get it ready for the new addition to the family.
