Is that a custom made lower section of the box, how are you holding the panel filter down?
Leaves a lot of scope for ducting to the hood scoop.

thats M7's MINI. that intake looks interesting but i would probably go for something foam based. Im waiting for more details on that turbo heatshield though.
Yes I would love to hear more about that turbo heat shield too, looks great and I am sick of the heat warping the hood scoop.

you can get your silicone intakes from www.siliconeintakes.com
you are going to have to buy
1x 90 degree reducer from 2.75 inches to 3 inches
1x 3 inch silicone joiner
1x 2.75 inch tbolt clamp
1x 3 inch tbolt clamp
just so you know, all the products that i listed are for filters with a 3 inch opening. if you are considering a different sized filter, you are going to have to adjust the silicone pipe dimension which is really easy once you realize how all this stuff fits together. Just remember the MAF opening is 2.75 inches and whatever you do from there is up to you. in terms of what filter to get... that is totally up to you. check out previous posts, lots of the members already posted their cai setup and so far, they are all different and look really good...

btw... siliconeintakes takes forever to restock their inventory... as of now they are out of a lot of things so you have to order some of the pieces mid to late april. if you find an alternative that is similar in price to siliconeintakes, please share!

just a question for the general... i know the worm gear clamp isnt as "good" as the tbolt clamps... but the purpose of these things is to simply attach the silicone parts with joiners and what not... does the silicone pipe really require tbolt clamps as oppose to worm gear clamps?

I dont think zena has a 90 degree reducer that will fit the coopers 2.75inch MAF to your 3 inch Filter but if you find one, tell me! in that case you have to get a regular 2.75 inch 90 degree bend with a 2.75 to 3 inch straight reducer. that also means you have to buy 2 silicone joiners and 4 tbolts.... i think it gets close to 100 bucks... those pesky joiners are only $7.99 at siliconeintakes and a whopping $17.99 at zena...
STILL cheaper than other products however.... yet too expensive for a bunch of pipes imo...

i dont know why i like it so much... i think its because its a red foam filter that looks like a huge barrel as oppose to a cone. most of their products are used for off road vehicles, so good at filtering?

I have just used a 3" silicone elbow and found that it clamps down under a worm drive clamp onto the airbox connection well (we do not have MAF in australia but the airbox connection is the same size).
I do not see the need for t bolt clamps, this area is not under boost (stock clamps for IC, turbo etc are worm drive from factory anyway). The only advantage in this application is that t bolts look better.

wait... are you sure its the same size? has anyone with a maf used a 3" end on the MAF side? i know silicone is somewhat fogiving but a 3" in clamped on something that is 2.75" in diameter? anyone else do this?
i just need to make sure.
Just for kicks I built a DIY intake for our mini, and will do some before and after vbox testing this weekend. I did some before and after post intercooler IAT testing with interesting results.
I may put a segment of 2.75" hose under the clamp, which should build it up to approx 3" by the time you have taken into account the OD of the hose, hope that makes sense.

I dynoed my car yesterday, in a MAHA LPS 3200 dyno.
The car did 195hp in the crank and 28,6 nm of torque in 3510 rpms..
153hp at the wheels.
Before that it has 147hp at the wheels and 26,8nm of torque in 3650 rpms...
If I find some time tomorrow, I will post both diagrams, before and after.

I recently went back to stock because i had to go to the dealership for service and while the filter was off... i was looking for any trace amounts of dust or debris anywhere along the intake tract and i found nothing....
Im sure paper and gauze filters can filter just as well but they definitely have more restriction.

I did a few before and after pulls from 10-60 (didn't have much space), and the times were identical stock airbox vs. cone filter with elbow. I'll need to do more testing at higher speeds when I get back to the private track! But for now I'm comfortable saying at the stock boost levels its a sound only mod.
only a sound mod? didnt a few people claim they started to get more mpg? if this isnt the case, guess the stock airbox will have to go on on long trips.
are you still going to do dyno runs for the dyi cais?
your mini must have been through a lot, but then again, i guess that is what its meant for!

Edit: Nevermind, I saw the date and time on the charts. Nevertheless, the numbers are still pretty good for a simple homemade mod, considering the post-mod dyno was at a higher ambient temp.

By the dates on the dyno's the before one was in June 2007, after dyno on march 2008. If that's the case then it doesn't accurately showcase the power made from the DIY intake mod. If the dates are wrong and the dynos are the same day then good power gains.
