it could be the tube after the MAF (that heads to the turbo) knocking into that thin tube that lies on top of it... you can see it in the photo above. It is 'connected' to the air box intake tube and can knock into a few different things in the engine bay. You can zip tie it or something and see if that solves your problem.

as a matter of fact... my 90degree tube is zip tied onto the bottom part of the air box... there is a place where it is pretty stable.

i know for a fact that my maf is rubbing because i looked at the underside of my strut bar and it is all worn down from where it rubbed.

so after driving around for 2 days with it on i'm noticing a lot of lag low in the rpm range....is this a 'just deal with it' thing or is there something i should do,..aka open up more of the scoop holes or something else to reduce this. mpg went down .5mpg too, but thats cuz i was shifting later to hear the bov..lol..sounds a bit ricey but its ok for now.thanks

I never really noticed the lag too much, until I switched over to a DDM Street Intake. The car drives MUCH better with the DDM intake than it did with the DIY K&N. Seems to have really picked up in the low rpm range where you are talking about.

I'd definitely open your hood scoop though.

I also noticed this with my initial setup using a less expensive filter from Spectre. I then changed to a K&N filter with a silicone 3" elbow and opened up the scoop (i.e. removing the OEM grill and bending and cutting the sheet metal wide open) and then I noticed an increase in the low rpms (improved from OEM intake setup)

Honestly I didn't even look through the item list, I though SAMCO had every size and color. I would assume, though, that the 3 1/8 to 2 3/4 should work...

Yeah it might work. My only concern is that if i were to use a 3" joiner would I be able to tight tighten the 3 1/8" silicone down onto the joiner? It's only a 4mm difference from 3" but i don't know how giving silicone is...

If you had to have red and you can't find it anywhere else, it will work just fine. If the samco hose is anywhere near as pliable as the one I got from siliconintakes, you shouldn't have a problem.

Does k&n make a 3 1/8" filter? Can you find a 3 1/8" OD joiner?
