Drivetrain CAI for R56 (home made)
The exact comment relates to not flooring it at too low speeds for the sixth gear.
Sixth gear is usually an overdrive gear meant for highway cruising. It is not the fastest way to gain speed. One should use the right gears for the task, in this case acceleration. The higher rpms from a shift down, perhaps one or two gears will provide much better "instant" acceleration. At too low speeds, you will be lugging the engine and it will hesitate, just what ghosthound is wondering about.

Plus, even if i was to say go WOT at 30 mph in 6th gear, i shouldnt have any engine issues like i was experiencing. It would just take a long time to get up to speed.
At any rate, i went back to stock the other night and although i do miss the sound of the turbo spooling up and sucking in air, i now get to enjoy the sound of my exhaust more. Plus, as i mentioned before, i sometimes felt embarrassed with the loud "pshhh" noise. To each their own but i think i am going to save up for a real CAI system.

Am I the only person here that has heard of this?

Hey I know im bringin this thread back from the dead but im thinking about doing the cheapo 30 dollar K&N filter on my mini but im nervous about any other effects it would have on my mini... Btw does anyone have a sound clip of some nice BOV sound?
So I was looking at this photo, and I said to myself "couldn't you fasten the air filter down with some zip ties (maybe even silicon caulk the edges for a nice tight seal) and leave the air box top off and gain a tremendous amount of breathability?". I'm just wondering if one could get away with just removing the stock air box top, replace the paper filter with a K&N drop in filer, zip tie the sucker down and have an instant "C"AI. Go ahead, call me crazy... but it seems to be in the right spot, have a bit of protection from heat soak, and would be really easy to change before any regular service appointments.

Is there any reason why you can't just drill holes on top of the stock air box to increase flow and leave the rest as is?
By the way, my setup is for sale. I traded the car in and removed everything beforehand. It is plug-and-play and ready to ship to someone who wants to buy it. Contact me by parsonal message if interested.
Here is the link to my setup earlier in the thread:
