so i've been thinking. technically, leaving the bottom of the airbox doesn't seem to me like it would help provide more cool air (negligible, if any). the reason i say this is because the tube that feeds the airbox will not have any suction to it since the airlock (OE closed box assembly) has been eliminated. So the tube doesn't "suck" air, it simply diverts air toward the new intake, which i can't imagine would help all that much. what do you guys think?

You are probably 90% correct. I'm sure it does "suck" some air from that tube, but even if it doesn't what does it hurt? It provides a great base to build off of without having to fabricate that portion of a custom box.
Installed mine this past weekend. I likey. It is a little "ricey" but it definitely spools up faster. I dont know yet if it yields more power... but I havent pushed it past 5k yet as I am still in break in. 750 miles and not even 2 weeks on the car. Needless to say I am driving every day for lunch. This weekend, the muffler delete is going in!
No. The elbow would need to be 2.75" on one end (for your filter) and 3" on the other end (for the MAF).
I'm sorry to say that is in correct....in fact it doesn't even make sense. Use a caliper and measure it if you don't believe me, but the MAF is 2.75" or 70mm.
I was wondering does anyone have 100% proof that the MAF sensor is seriously messed up by not having the "blown off" air comming back into the system. or if everything is fine, and you get to hear the PSST sound and pretend to be in an impreza, without major loss... people were talking about the car running too rich etc... but I would like to know if anyone ACTUALLY knows, not just someone making an excuse to stop the ricers. Thx!

The only problem that we have found was when we intially tested intake ideas months ago we put a foam filter straight off of the MAF and the car definitely did not like that (check engine light, running rough, etc) we then switched to the K&N that we are using on our intake directly off of the MAF and had no problems, infact after several restarts the check engine light went away . So Faom filters right off of the MAF are bad, K&N filters right off of the MAF are ok. Both kinds of filters are fine though if you put a 90 degree bend between the filter and the MAF. Hope that helps.
