You probably don't need to put a full can in. I'd try half can (16 oz) per 10 gallons, according to their website that will get you from 93 to 97.

Octane boosters do not have any direct effect on the power output of your engine. Higher octane doesn't mean more potential energy in the fuel, it means a higher resistance to detonation, which in turn means more spark advance and higher cylinder pressures are possible, which in turn means more complete combustion of the fuel/air mix, allowing the engine to utilize more of the potential energy stored in the fuel. If you can't tune parameters like boost, spark, and fuel injector cycles to take advantage of the higher octane, then it does not increase the power output of the engine.

i really cant give you a solid number, because like i said, it depends.....

if you take a bone stock Cooper S to the dyno, do one run with 93....then for your second run, change to 97 and do nothing else to the car....you will see the around the same numbers as your first run (quite possibly even worse).....you need to tune the car to run harder with the higher octane fuel, and how much HP you make will depend on how agressively you tune.

its not like bolting on a turbo charger, where a good approximate number can be estimated.

think of it more like water/ methanol injection or a larger intercooler.

and just to be clear, the Octane booster we are talking about IS NOT the same stuff as the $6 bottles they sell at walmart or the autoparts store.....if you try using that stuff and ramping the JB+ to 100%, you will likely be buying a new motor.

Doesn't the DME automatically adjust to the octane? I am not getting any of the booster stuff, I am just trying to understand why someone would run the stuff. Thanks for your patience educating me.

the DME does adjust to octane (to an extent)....however the factory tune wont use it to make more power.

the only reason you would need to run a higher octane fuel than what the car MFG reccomends is if you are running an aftermarket ECU tune which is producing higher levels of boost. (boost is a term used to describe increased air pressure delivered to the engine from the turbo charger....the higher the pressure, the more air flow to the motor, the more HP your motor can make)

now BMS designed the JB+ to run safely in its default setting on a stock car using 93 octane....

however, if you want to adjust the JB+ past its stock setting to produce more power, you are going to need aditional modifications to safely handle the power.....the most common ways to do that are with a larger intercooler, water/ meth injection, or with modified fuel (either e85 mix, or high octane racing fuel).

the more boost you produce ( in otherwords, the harder the turbo charger works) the hotter the air to the motor becomes.....if that air becomes too hot, the fuel will sponatniously combust, which will cause engine damage.......higher octane fuel is harder to ignite, so you can run more boost safely because you minimize the risk of pre-detonating the fuel.

My mailman came when I was at the store and left a note. I drove around trying to find her to no avail. Ended up having to wait til Monday to pick it up.

I might leave a note on the door to ring and knock if she doesn't get someone the first time.

The software is all different. But the PCB itself was adapted from an earlier N55 tune that happened to use the same inputs/outputs.

Someone ruined my excitement of the JB arriving. Someone ran into the back of my car and broke off an exhaust tip. Thankfully nothing else is broken, but they didn't leave a note.

Sorry man. On the bright side, this would be a perfect time for a new exhaust.

I know. I just don't have the money for a quality one at the moment. Christmas time, and realtor dues put a crimp on my spending abilities. I wonder if I can just weld the tip back on since the little bracket it screws on was damaged.

Can I say how much of a difference this JB+ makes and I just installed it. This thing is definitely worth the money. Best mod ever on any car I've owned.

I drove home to meet the mail carrier since it's signature required during my lunch break. Then I put the 50 initial miles on that night :-D

Mariokart offered me some jcw tips if I pay for shipping. What a nice guy! If I can figure out if they will fit on the car I might just do that. If I think welding is the only way to get them to stay on then I might just do that instead. So the place is called RJ's?

Here's the website:

It's behind a Jiffy Lube. The guy likes to be paid in cash.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. On a side note, My car is still making a clunk over bumps. I thought I had figured out it was the engine mount bolt that was loose, because the bolt was so loose I could turn it with my hand...but it is still making a clunk which to me sounds like it's from the front of the car. It especially does it over rough pavement or coming out of driveways. It's already been to FLOW 3 times in the last couple weeks for other stuff, but I asked them to look at that each time, and they keep saying nothing's wrong. Any ideas of a place I could take my car besides the stealership that's not really expensive? I'm thinking it's the sway bar mounts, but I don't really know how to determine its that. I've checked the end links and they don't seem loose, everything else seems fine, but the noise is especially bad when it's cold. I want to be able to really enjoy the JB+, because it's awesome, but that stupid clunk is taking away from motoring enjoyment...and now my busted muffler tip.

ChiliRedR56raleigh,

These guys (Michael and Chris) are great:

http://www.euromotorsnc.com

They are also on Capital Blvd.

They do a lot of custom mods like meth injection etc. Also do walnut blasting.

Again, thank you so much. I've contacted MINIUSA because of all the problems I've had, but I don't know if they will help me at all. If my car has to be stuck at FLOW one more day, I'll go crazy. I've spent two or three days a week with my car there, every week for the last few months. I'm getting tired of it, but I love the car so much. Maybe if I can pay for something to get done right the first time, it will end up saving me time and money in the long run, instead of having the dealership mess up stuff and have to redo their work three or four times to get it right. I'll check that place out!!
