I noticed the pic of your JB+ had N55 written on it. Are we just using the same JB+ as the N55, or is it just the same chip thing with different settings?

I just looked up E85 stations near me. Thankfully, I'm doing a renovation on a house I'm listing, and the ethanol station is less than two blocks away. Awesomeness!

Terry,

What's the disadvantage of going above 40% for (stock) JCW owners?

Hey all. Been reading about people turning up the jb+. Just curious what I can turn it up to on the safe side. I always put 93 in and have only a boost tube and an intake on. Can I turn it up a little or should I just leave it where it is at? Thanks!

speaking of turning it up a notch.....

has anyone tried Torco?

Amazon.com: Torco Accelerator 32oz The Best Fuel Additive: Automotive Amazon.com: Torco Accelerator 32oz The Best Fuel Additive: Automotive

its a 'race gas concentrate'....and is supposed to actually boost the octane rating of 93 up to 100 octane.

ive been reading and it seems that this stuff actually does increase octane levels a significant degree( or at least provide knock protection).......just wondering if anyone has any experience.

unfortunatelly race gas and E85 are not too common in my area.

other than possibly blowing your engine up, there aren't any disadvantages.

people have dialed it up with no issues. most of them are running 93+ octane, a mix of e85, and/or water/meth injection. even then, one may be toeing the line of engine failure. i am no austin power, so i don't choose to live dangerously.

our JB+ is adapted from the n55 application. there are similarities, but i highly doubt they're interchangeable, if that's what you're asking. and i think it's a bit more than just different settings, altho i'm not sure what qualifies as settings in your mind.

Torco and NOS Race both work well as they contain MMT. If you want to raise the octane that is a great way to do it. I did a test with NOS Race for around 15k miles and did not notice a decreased plug life or any other ill effects other than the orange soot in the tailpipe. A can of torco makes 91 octane similar to 95 octane, and the NOS Race makes 91 similar to 93.5 octane.

May cause engine knock, actually decrease performance, etc, if the fuel isn't there to support it.

Terry,

so assuming i add a full 32 oz can of Torco to a tank of 93 octane (Which should bring me to ~97-100 octane)

do you think i would be reasonably safe bumping the JB+ up to 6 or 7 assuming i keep an eye on my timing?

A full tank with 93 should get you close to 97 I'd imagine. You can bump the JB+ up to max on that and just keep an eye on timing. Shouldn't be any fueling issues.

oh wow, thats great to hear....

i think ill take things slow and gradually start to ramp things up over the course of a few weeks. ill be sure to let you know how everything is going along the way.

also, do you think it would be beneficial to swap for colder plugs if im running the JB + on its max setting

Just checked and a can of torco is like 25 bucks, that plus a full tank of premium? Very pricey? No?

yeah, it is a bit pricey.....however,at $25/ can + $50/ full tank of 93, thats works out to ~$5.75/ gal....which is a lot cheaper than what race fuel is going for.

So what's the safest setting on the jb with 93 octane? The base setting? Anyone on here in fort myers fl? Where can you buy higher than 93 octane has around here?

assuming you have an S (and not a jcw or GP) and you run 93 octane, you should have no problem on the 12:00( or as-shipped) setting........if you want to be extra careful, i dont see how it would hurt to turn it down to 11:00.

yea i have an S, i just found a sunoco before the bridge to fort myers beach that sells higher octane gas. which is great because i work on the beach. With a completely stock cooper S, running a higher octane fuel, and turning it up, are there any concerns to have? sorry for the questions, i dont currently have a JB+ but im very close to purchasing one. i keep hearing about a jb4 thats in the works, and i dont know if i wanna spend money now only to spend more on the new system later...

Terry has said BMS has an upgrade path where you don't lose by starting with the JB+ then going to the JB4 when it comes out. So have fun now, then have more fun later ;-)

Are performance gains significant when using octane booster? Is it like 5hp, 10hp or what?

If I put high octane gas (97+) in my mini which is currently running the jb+ stock and I turn it up to 100% I assume there's another break in period just like when u first install it? Just wanna know if I should wait before taking it on a dyno

the race gas/ octane boost will likely not net any HP gains by its self.......what higher octane fuel allows you to do is push more boost safely, because it is more resistant to detonation....

so essentially any HP gains are going to come from tuning for the higher octane fuel

I didn't know if the internals of the JB+ were the same or what. I'm glad to know that it was adapted from the N55. It just kinda threw me off when I saw N55. Thanks for the response.

What? What you said there doesn't make sense. Octane boosters do give you more power.......how much tho?
