OC, Jan,

Yes, I know I need a bigger IC. Next mod purchase.

I really do want to see the particulars on the flash unit. I do have a piggy bank full waiting on this one.

"Freak", that might be a good plate.

This is very interesting and confusing at the same time! So an RMW tuned MCSa is putting down more torque than an RMW tuned factory JCW???

Well, yes it is! Mark did say my MCSa is a bit of a freak.

Now I need to find out how to get all the HP and TQ to stay constant up to about 6800 rpm. Drop off is much to early.

But I get a thrill when I punch the go peddle.

Check my picasa I posted a first run and last run graph. We did break 200HP on one of the runs but A/F was not as good as it should be.

I would love to have the HP and TQ stay longer without dropping so quick.

Interesting dyno chart! Hope you can improve it some more!

So, just out of curiosity, how did you break in your engine? Did you follow the owner's manual recommendations or did you do something else?

looks to me like the turbo's running out of steam.

although, i'm not a tuner but a building engineer, so take this worth about a half grain of salt...

My Standard R56 S is running 204.3Bhp and 225.2lb/ft from factory. Its been dyno'd on a few different dyno's all from good tuning garages such as AMD and Paramount Performance and came out around the same figures each time, never did it drop below 200Bhp though. I ran mine in enthusiastically. I ran it slow for the first 200miles or so then gave it some hard runs on an air strip leaving it to come down the Rev range naturally over and over till it started to feel a bit loser then drove it like you would a run in car after that. Its pushing more power than any standard R56 S iv seen before so my run i must have been a good one.

Good numbers, do you have some dyno charts to post? Since you mentioned tuning garages, are these your tuned numbers from the local tuners?

Are those HP/TQ at the wheels or at the hub? 3rd gear pulls or 4th gear pulls?

A few more items of interest would be your ambient temps, altitude, humidity, etc.

FYI @ uzun, my break in was similar to the recommended break in, I never took the car over 4K for the first few miles and varied the RPM on the drive home. I never broke 100 mph, but I drive fast on the track.

I did drive it briskly but never harsh.

I did my break-in the correct way. I drove it 200 miles in town and then to Roebling Road in Georgia. Total mileage 585 miles.

Then on the track for 2 days and back home.

Oil change and few weeks later, another track day.

Gotta love the track for break-ins.

I think we are looking at some trends here. Because everyone is not saying what mods they have it is a bit hard to figure but I think it goes like this. SpyvsSpy I think has a stock intake with an Alta filter, the other high torque car I think has no DP. But it seems like cars with Open filters are getting lower numbers. I also include the M7 AGSR and DDM RIS in that group. I think that the cars with a sealed intake are doing better.

Also it seems like there is something with the 07's that makes them hold more boost. It seems like even with the same tune the 08 has a lower Hp and Tq number.

I cant wait to get mine done to see what happens.

I think you are dead on about the intakes. We found that out very quickly, as my S was the first that Jan had tuned that had an aftermarket CAI. It did things that the stock car certainly didn't do. Took a while to get it right, but finally did. And even now, it still seems that the enclosed (stock or JCW) intakes are the way to go. Stock probably works better than the open ones...or at least it performs just as well. In my opinion, the stage 1 JCW intake is the best option out there. Why would BMW starve the turbo of fresh air?? They knew what they were doing when they designed it, and the results show that.

The only reason I refuse to take my DDM off is the sound! It's a tuned turbo car...you just have to have the cool noises! I'm willing to sacrifice a couple hp just so I can have the sound...just me though...

Some good thoughts, I like the sound of my DDM intake, not sure my ED exhaust is adding much to performance, but the sound is nice, too.

Per Jan, the best bang for the buck is a DP and larger IC. My next mod will be a larger IC. I need it for lapping days as well.

On the R56 S, I would love to see a flatter line around 200HP after 5K, not sure what mods I would need.

Perhaps a custom turbo? Or a swap to a JCW turbo, probably hurt the engine.

Next I need to get some track laps before I change anything, since that is why I had the tune done in the first place.

Thumper, I forget what were your tuned numbers?

Don

With your attitude, I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is.....

NEVER.

Well initially I was 192 whp, 229 ft-lbs. But this was before Jan had uncovered some of the fueling maps that he now uses. (Which greatly helped with the finicky cars that have aftermarket CAI's).

I do have those maps on my car though, and we did a night of street tuning and drive-ability tuning with them, and the difference was big. I have never made it back to the dyno since doing that though, as I was just going to wait for my IC and meth kit. I now have the IC and it helped a ton, especially being here in AZ now. So, to answer your question, I don't know! All I know is that the addition of the IC defintely introduced some new torque steer that wasn't there before .

My ScanGuage estimates a peak of 238bhp...could be pretty close, thats just over 200whp depending on the correction factor you want to use. I've tried to use DynoLicious but unlike most people, I can't seem to get the thing to give any sort of results that are worth a damn.
