If I knew it was going to be the same price as the regular dyno tunes Jan has been doing I would of got that done. So I guess I won't be getting this and will probably wait until Alta comes out with there version.

If I could get it for that price I'd jump in and then have it tuned by Jan. Unfortunately, I've been quoted $2,500 for the kit alone (no installation included). Things are always more expensive around here.

So $1,000 sounds like a relative bargain to me...

That's just the price you have to pay for all his effort put forth to crack our bastard ECU. RMW is worth it.

I gotta focus on my Minis looks more than this though...

You guys need to remember something about the price.

If you really want a RMW tune, just drive to a tune party and get it for even less than the 800 bucks. (usually... unless prices have gone up)

I paid 725 for my tune (it should have been 100 bucks less but I tied up the dyno for 2 hours)

Point of my post was I installed a JCW stage 1 kit on my '08 MCS. I got a super deal and paid less than 1400 for the kit (plus 300 for installation)

I ASSURE you that at less than half of the price, the results will be twice of a stage I kit.

I'm buying the handheld only because I want to be able to return my ecm back to stock for warranty if necc.

Mark

Yea I'm not quite sure why people are complaining about the price...your car can still be "dyno tuned". Go to your local dyno, send Jan the data, and upload what he sends you to your car. See what it does, send Jan data, upload what he sends you back. Process repeats till the end result is satisfactory to both you and Jan. Naturally you'd have to coordinate a time for Jan to be available for this "live" tune, which could be hard to do since he's so busy, but it'd be the same as if you scheduled an appointment for him to tune your car in person. Maybe I got it all wrong, but I'm pretty sure thats the whole idea behind a remote tune...

Why on Earth would a remote tune be cheaper? It's the same thing in the end...

Also, the price of the handheld device itself....$289?? I was shocked when I saw that...it's so low! I was expecting it to be much more...so to me that is a bargain and I will be getting one so I can switch between various maps on my car down the road.

Realistically speaking, what would the difference be between a dyno tune and a remote one? I know a dyno tune would definitely be better, but by how much?

I'm thinking aloud so I can convince myself to buy the tune.

I'm down for one ! I'll be getting my tune live & in person Saturday, but it'll be really handy being able to swap back to stock myself before any dealer visits, same with being able to upload updates when they come out instead of waiting for the 'yearly' (if we're lucky) RMW tuning day.
I just hope the software doesn't require a live internet connection, wireless doesn't exactly reach the parking garage

Jan: When can i buy one of the units to tune the car with. Can i buy it and run my own software on it? ie. Take my map off, tune it myself or have someone else tune it then put the modified file onto my car using your tool. As i may be getting a Uprated turbo and have a bit of experience in tuning cars so would like to possibly use my own tune.

Thanks.

I have a feeling that the tune is vin specific.

Even if it was Vin specific i would be able to use it on my own car despite what tune i use wouldn't i? I would just like to use my own software if i can but i cant afford to buy a Geniuse Master or Optican to do so. Just thought maybe this would make it easier plus it will be car specific so i can sell it with the car once its done.

I'm sure you can't flash other cars... as far as I can tell, the VIN number plays a bit role here, right? So Jan won't touch that part...

I want one. I definitely want one...

I think thats the point. Thats why i thought i may be able to tune my own as i can still only use it on my car so an wont have to worry about me using it to tune other cars etc.

Hi all,
This is a little off-topic..... is there software available which will monitor multiple channels ( i.e. rpm, load, fuel mixture, boost etc) on a laptop, so you can monitor/record real time data? How about a computer program that can read/write ecu maps?

Thanks, Marty

Would it make any sense to buy a Stage 1 JCW kit and have it re-tuned by Jan?

I feel the exhaust tone is not as aggressive as I'd like it to be. And perhaps the new intake and exhaust can help with the new tune?

The bad thing is... the JCW kit is ridiculously expensive...

not really, all you get in the kit is the airbox (~$250 by itself), a very quiet catback, and a tune you'd be over-writing.
The airbox really doesn't make much difference and you can find a lot nicer cat-backs or full exhaust systems for less money. Jan's tune is off the chart compared w/ the JCW stage 1 tune (or even the stage 2 cars)...

Buy a better intercooler, an exhaust that suits you, and Jan's tune, you'll be very happy

Probably. Thats the problem with Mac. Apple try to rule the world by only letting you use thier softwares and products etc . You mite need to borrow a different Laptop from someone.
