Must be summer, busy here
That's funny... yeah, come back to Japan but leave those Americans there to die.
Hey, did the Japanese employees walk around with surgical masks on their faces ? They do that in their own country any time they have a cold. Quite considerate of them, huh ? Geez, I hope nobody brings that flu to MOTD.

Yeah I'm thinking of wearing one of those silly masks at the airport when I fly out today. No I'm not sick, but what are the chances of someone having the flu while stuck in line or on a cramped airplane where it's well known the ventilation system passes all kinds of crazy stuff to the passengers?

yah, i think you'll have a higher chance of getting your drink spilled over your head by a flight attendant than getting the flu going to the airport.
have a safe trip, OG.
bring back some crazy detailing stories.

So... yesterday my car sits out in the hot sun all day for the first time in two weeks, since I last painted my scoop. Guess what? It caught the pigflu.
A spot right in the f'ing middle of the scoop about the size of my fingernail blistered.
Can't go to MOTD like that. So I'm repainting it. Again.
And I'm waiting on some Megs39 to get the polish off my trim (hopefully be here today or tomorrow) - testing some spots with mineral spirits, PB&J, etc. in the meantime... PB worked pretty darn well... not 100%, but probably about 80% with one application, sat an hour, cleaned off with spray-on carwash... and retaped a couple of sections of beltline.
And my @%!%@ Aesthetic Creations door handle covers won't be here in time for MOTD. Even though they told me they would be two weeks ago. So I gotta live with the Plasti-Dip like it is... Which isn't *bad*... it's just not *perfect*...
This is supposed to be fun... why do I always stress out pre-MOTD?
Don't answer that.

For the same reason I've spent about 20 hours detailing my convertible over the last four days, Paul... to get those warm fuzzies when people compliment you on it.
And hey, I promise not to look too closely at your plasti-dip if you promise not to look at my MINI until Friday morning after I get a chance to wash it (suppose to rain on our way down there on Thursday).

Be safe and have fun at MOTD guys. Hopefully I'll be there next year.
Haha Thanks Ken..that wouldn't be so bad...those flight attendants on Cathay Pacific are pretty darn cute..not like the flight attendants on the domestic flights.

so you're the one pinching them from behind causing them to spill their drinks over other people's heads.

ie water evaporated leaving an airpocket, air expanded
in the heat.
yah, with them you need to pay money and patience to play, it seems.
Yeah, i've had several problems with blistering in this scoop. No problems with all the other stuff I've painted with the same paint. But it seems like maybe a little water or solvent gets into the fiberglass and doesn't dry out. Then, like you say... makes a blister later.
This time I used the heat gun on it for a couple of minutes. Then put in in front of the fan for a while to get it VERY dry... we'll see. I'm getting good with the whole wet sand / prime / paint / clearcoat thing now... this scoop has been great experience...
So it's sanded, re-primed, wetsanded smooth, basecoated now... i dried the primer really well before the basecoat... gonna let the base dry well before the clear... hopefully it will at least last through the weekend...
Oh... and 70% isopropyl alcohol and a scrubby microfiber seemed to do pretty well on my polish stains... gonna reapply BW and should be good...

sounds good. painting parts is fun.
i use to do it pretty often in the past. lately haven't had much projects.
i dont remember the last time i stripped off BW. i just
keep a nice dry to the touch coat on there at all times.

Yeah, I've never removed my BW before, either. First time thing, in an attempt to get these new polish stains off. So maybe slathering a fresh coat of BW before my polish job *did* help - because it seems like using the alcohol to remove the BW took most of the polish with it...
So, I'm getting laid off Friday, which'll involve me going in, handing in my badge, and leaving. I'm going to celebrate the rest of the day off by doing my spring detailing.
As always, my biggest problem will be the damn trim. I have Black Wow and while it helped a bit, there are a few areas that remain white after repeated BW applications. Should I try peanut butter, alcohol, etc.?

As I told Paul upthread, the best results I've had is using Meguiar's #39 vinyl cleaner. That... a toothbrush, and a lot of elbow grease.
And hey, glad to see you're so happy about being laid off. Your state must have good umemployment benefits.
Try it all ! It'll all work to a degree but none of them will work perfectly.

As for the trim, it usually looks great after BWing, but a day or two later it's white again, d'oh. Should I do peanut butter first and then BW?
And if you're not into painting the arches, then yeah, try to get as much of it out of the trim before you apply the BW. Peanut butter works somewhat. Rubbing alcohol works a little better, IMO. It'll give it a dried out appearance but don't worry, the BW will take care of that.
Good luck... I've never had anything work completely. The Meg's #39 is as close as I've come.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. If you don't remove the wax/polish residue, it's going to come back. No matter what product you put on it.
If you're using BW and trying to remove residue...you should be "scrubbing" during the application using something relatively abrasive like a red shop rag or the seam of a MF Skinny applicator. Scrubbing it with a foam applicator or mf towel isn't enough.
As you're scrubbing, the applicator will turn black. That's a good sign you are removing the residue. If it's not changing color, you need to change your technique. You should keep scrubbing until the color doesn't come off.
You might also try putting on a liberal application, letting it presoak the trim, before scrubbing it.

My trim looks FANTASTIC again now... with BW back on it. No more dried-out look, and the polish isn't peeking through now like it did before.
Done clearcoating my scoop. Need to let it dry REAL WELL before I go touch it... ask me how I know... no, don't.

no, my boss was cracking up. he ain't going no where.
i guess if he goes, i'll have the keys to his 09 RL.
By the way... I also just learned that BW seems to work great on plasti-dipped parts, too! Used it on my door handles and splitter and they look like new!
And worked good on my red plasti-dipped tow hook. Maybe Richard needs to sell some re-labeled as "Red Wow"....

i would give it at least 48hrs to dry.
