Must be winter, quiet here
So I'm taking advantage of 50f, QDing both MINIs, and they both had white dust on them, well on their boots, no where else. I'm thinking it was salt dust, not from us out motoring, but from the street at the end of the driveway. We do live at a fairly busy intersection. So I washed the boots off, then DQed the rest of them.
They spread salt here about 5 days ago, for what amounted to no snow, and some very light drizzle

i had a similar issue when i had the garage door open for couple of
hours and both my cars inside had this film of salt/ikky cloud.

it's amazing how much crap the air can carry. :impatient another
reason why not to detail on a windy day.
You know, spreading gravel I can deal with, no harm to cars, no environmental damage, but salt is just bad.
We had some icy roads here a few days ago out in the back road hills. The weather guys said no problem, so the schools did not close, the school buses ran. ONE bus went off the road, no one hurt, but the school division, parents were all up in arms. Why did they not call for a snow day?? Blame the poor weather guys
My take on this, the bus driver was not paying attention, slid off the road.
If the weather is BAD, sure salt the roads, if some roads are not treated, well take your frigging time
mad:
Or better yet, go learn winter driving where I come from, if it snows, slow down, if the roads are real bad, slow down even more.

even in IL people just drive too damn fast in icy conditions with
their pos cars and tires(some almost bald) and thinking they can make
the same turn at the same speed as in the summer time.
it's not
even the turns sometimes...one could be going straight and suddenly
loose traction.
salt is really bad. this is one of the reasons why i dont like driving my
hobby cars in the winter even if it's dry because the metals/paints most
aftermarket parts use are not as durable as OE treated paints.
cheapo wheels i have on my commuter is a good example. one month
and they got pitted all over the polished lip.
no way am i going to
risk that kind of corrosion on my 3pc wheels.

so, i turned my garage queen's shoes a quarter of a turn today again...
one week earlier than scheduled (usually every 2.5wks). garage floor
temp's been in the 25F-30F range.
hope to see a warm up trend soon...

So after collecting almost 2 months of grunge inside and out, I spent over 2 hours early this morning cleaning Blimey inside and out - he looked gooooood. Had to get him ready for a big club run (about 400 miles round trip today up to the mountains and back).
Soooooo.... our club founder led this drive, and picked a bunch of good looking twisty roads off Google Maps... and never drove any of them before. Hmmmm....
For quite a ways, all was normal - great roads, great driving... then we took a turn on the route and the road became this....

Hmmmm...
We saw some scenes right out of Deliverance...
Well, my nice detail job became...

eek:

I think it's hilarious...

I'm glad you can laugh about it. I don't think I could have handled it with quite that much finesse. After I cleaned Nilla this morning I took the misses out for a spin. At one point a car in front of me ran through some snow melt which misted my windshield. I was cursing up a storm and looked over at Deb who looked like she was sizing me up for a straight jacket. Sad

blimey- you are one tuff guy.
i NEVER drive on gravel.
might want to try the maps' arial view next time before going?

moocher- yah, i too hate it even when people turn on their winsheild washer
while at speed.
WTH! you got my car misty.

how rude!

Yeah - I "never" drive on gravel either. Luckily there wasn't really any gravel. Just dirt.
I wasn't in charge on this one - so I was just following the MINI in front of me - and we were in the middle of NOWHERE - one of those times when you decide to either stay with the group, or turn around and find your way home - which was about 4 hours away at the time...
But the radio chatter as we hit the dirt/gravel was HILARIOUS - because I'm just in the "I avoid gravel as a general rule" category - there were people almost crying over the radios... "OMG, OMG, OMG, I can't believe I'm doing this, OMG, OMG, OMG".
It was like descending into Hell with a bunch of OCDetailers...

got my car (FitS) washed today at my local touchless place.
slicked and hydro'ed the wheels when i got home. also slicked the
engine room since i saw some salt spots on there.
i have to say i am TRUELY HAPPY for Hydro's durability on
my wheels.
i saw no further corrosion from the
minor pitting i initially got from something only a few weeks
after getting the wheels. car's only washed every 10days due
to weather/road conditions, yet there was no visible progress
of corrosion on those pits.
usually my car is caked
with salt.
hope it gets warmer soon so that i can finally remove watever
wax the dealer put on the paint and put some sealant on it and top it off
with Hydro.

But now I feel much better

at least until Wednesday when it is suppose to snow again :impatient

Anyway, much better now.

It hit 48 so it felt very warm. I don't have three MINIs to clean, but I did manage to wash the MINI, Expedition and CR-V. Of course you always have to put up with the neighborhood clown who every time they see you out washing asks "How much do you charge?" and thinks it is so funny. Then there are those who insist that because I'm washing means it is going to snow/rain depending on the season.
I spec'd out a Clubman today just for fun. LB/B with everything I could have wanted - $41,400 man oh man. What has become of our poor little MINIs?

I'll see your Expedition and CRV and raise you an Infiniti QX4. Damn, is that thing friggin big after washing MINIs.
Yeah, I know what you mean. The MCSC has become $$$$$$$.... not that it was every cheap. Before I drop $41,000 on a MINI, I'd be very tempted to take a look at some other VERY nice cars out there. Did I just say that ??
And you know what I say to my neighborhood clown ? $30 for a wash, $200 for a complete detail. And I mean it.

I donated a detailing to the swim team as an auction prize. They got $225 for it and I got to detail a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was really pitted. Turned out nice but I'll bet it is trashed again.
Besides, detailing in the neighborhood is like dating in the office IMHO.

yah, before i got into to detailing i though paying someone over $100 for
a full detail was rediculous...
but if you think about letting someone like OG do your car, i think $200+'s a
bargain...especially if it's on a hobby car where you can keep the look
for a very long time.
