Today woulda been a good day to try out the "pour some Mystique on the roof and drive around in the rain" trick...

mmm. sounds good.

for me, it looks like tues/wed of next week is going to be my window to
pull-out my G and MCS. i am keeping my fingers crossed. by
that time the road salt should be washed off and dry roads.

tomorrow it's going to be 50F and rain/wind, and t-storms on monday with
about 50F. rain sounds good to me.

Low 70s here, slight overcast. So I'm going to clean and wax my wheels. I had the brakes done a couple of months ago, and I think the worst of the dust is over with.

Then my BIL is coming over with his new 07 PW. We're going wash, clay, then put some Zaino AIO on with the RO, then some Clear Seal. I'll get him to do most of it, I hurt my wrist yesterday, not sure how, but it aches and I can't put pressure on it.

Have to get the towels out of the laundry now

Mark

45 degrees and mostly cloudy here when I started washing MINIs this morning. By the time I finished, 52 degrees and sunny. Gorgeous day !!

Looks like pretty mild weather all over the US today. Shouldn't see any dirty MINI Coopers out on the road tomorrow !!!

Well the BIL toilet crapped out, so I went over to help him deal with that. So by the time we got back here there was no time to clay, but we got the AIO, and the Clear Seal on.

Problem was on his drivers door there where some stains I could not get off I used clay, cleaner wax/polish, SwirlX, alcohol, WD40, nothing touched them:impatient
Not the best pics, sorry.

I used my RO with the polish, and like everything else I tried, nothing was touching these stains. The are kind of dark brown, black. Looks like something splashed on the door, and ran a bit. Some are solid, others are rings, clean in the middle, kind of like a water spot.

The rest of the car turned out great though.

Because of the plumbing, my wheels are still dirty, but temps will be in the low 70s again tomorrow, so I'll do them then.

Looks great!

I didn't get to do the oil change nor wash

But the wife sent me out on errands so I was motoring pretty much the whole afternoon.

lookin' good! sorry to see those stains... if you
couldn't get it off with your RO, probably stained into the base coat.

it could be from bird droppings or even sewerage dripping from
parking structures, under bridges, etc.

Pepperwhite Stains

I've discussed this many times before on NAM and I don't understand why it's so but Pepperwhite is the only color I've seen on a MINI that stains so easily. The only way to remove those stains is by extensive paint removal with a rotary buffer or wetsanding and a lot of time.

At AMVIV I tried to polish out a PW MCS that had driven through something that splashed on the paint and left a huge brown stain as if it were brown water over the entire side of the car.

At a track event I attached one of my VacuCams to Bar10Girl's PW MCS--used Meguiars QD to help improve the adhesion instead of spit, lol, and at the end of the day when the mount was removed, a perfect brown circle the size the of mount was there. It's not clear what causes this staining, but it seeps deep into clearcoat and it's not fun to repair.

That's really odd. Since we all have the same clearcoat (I would guess!) and owners of Pepper Whites are not uniquely prone to "dirty habits" ( ) then it would seem that any MINI might be subjected to this staining but it is not visible on other colors?

Potentially yes, however in all the hundreds of MINIs I've worked on, and the ones I applied my VacuCams to--every MINI color available, this was never an issue until I encountered Pepperwhite.

One of the obvious complaints in the first gen PW MINIs was the "rust" stains from the MINI wings emblem and rear windshield wiper. Do a search on NAM and you will find lots of threads and discussion of this--affecting only PW.

Unfortunately it's not something I can explain why.

note to anyone doing PDR... DO NOT use the suction support bracket
on PW for guide light. it'll probably leave a circle.

Thanks for the info, Richard.

Happy ending!! I took my poor stained PW/B MCS to MINI of St. Louis. Matt and Steve looked at it and tried a few things but couldn't budge the stains. They sent me to Dennis at the BMW Collision Center who was able to figure it out. He said they were probably stains from uncured concrete. I remember going under the I-40 - I-170 flying overpass construction on a wet day last week. I probably got hit then. They worked on it with a buffer and some solutions that I didn't ask about. All gone! Thank you Matt, Steve, Dennis and Lotsie.
