Pee'd Off

I just spoke to (866) ASK MINI for the umpteenth time just to try to find out when my Week 31, then Week 33, now supposedly (Maybe) Week 34 MCS might be produced. I have found the information both inconsistent and frustrating and no one can give me a straight answer. Has anyone else experienced this?

*raises hand* .. Yes, Griff.. I've had nothing but inconsistent and frustrating information. It took weeks for me to get a straight answer, and it wasn't until the Owner's Lounge changed its status to "in production" that I finally got a semi-firm date. And even then, I'm not even positive that it's going to be finished by the date they gave me.

Anyone else heard that the plant is closed this week and next?

I broke down and called ASK MINI and my MINI is due to finish production the 15th of August (previously the 16th). Buuuuut, the plant is closed this week and at least part of next week and its just scheduled for production and not "In Production". At first she said the plant will be closed this week and next but given my completion date this made no sense. Upon clarification the lady at ask MINI said well it might reopen later next week they havent given us the exact dates.

Anyway maybe that is why some of the production dates are bouncing around.

Is your MINI in production yet? If it's not in production I don't think anyone can give you a straight answer because they don't know for sure. Once it's in production they will give you a date and week and that should be correct or at least close.

My status hasn't changed as far as I know. I called ASK MINI yesterday and they told me it takes 10-12 days for production. I asked about the factory being closed and the guy didn't know. He said it usually shuts down for a bit in July for the upcoming year and wasn't sure about any shutdown in August. There has to be though because mine has already been in production for 10 days and by the 16th it will be 22 days.

Mine's still in the body shop too. It started production 7/24 and obviously 8/15 is not 10-12 days from 7/24. Who knows.

Also, for those of you who are curious, I just called ASK MINI and asked them about the "black box" - the guy I talked to said that they're authorized to send them out to people 2-3 weeks after they take delivery. Thus, we probably won't be getting one. But he assured me that since MINI is working with a new marketing company, the idea is that this will be an on-going marketing ploy and that MINI owners will continue to get "black boxes" like the one folks are getting now. Which I think is pretty neat. New mysteries all the time!

My new Mini is to be made on Aug 14th. I can hardly wait. I'm getting:
MCS
Pepper White with Black Top
Sport Package
Premium Package
Limited Slip
Anthracite Interior
Black Leatherette

I'm told to expect mine by the end of September.

It's very interesting to see the passion that Mini owners have. It's contagious.

All the best, Tim

When I asked about the "black box" ASK MINI said they could put me on the request list. We'll see.

I agree. My car went into the body shop last week and when I called ASK MINI today, I was told it would be in there for about another 8 days. I think the guy meant that production itself would be another 8 days, since that would put me at the 15th (my est. completion date) - who knows. I guess it's a complicated process that can easily get thrown off schedule.

Oh man, that's no good! I'm sorry :( I haven't even thought to ask about the factory shutdown when I call; I guess I should do that, just to see what kind of answers we all get.

I'm sure things will pick up soon, it just takes a bit. Maybe you'd have better luck if you called and talked to your dealer?

As of this morning my car is now in production from scheduled for production at ASK MINI. Maybe the factory is open and running again.

Anyone else get a change in status?

Sam

Hooray!

Not me yet. I've been keeping track of my time line. So far it's:

7/21: Placed order
7/22: Received production #
7/24: Production began
7/30: Car entered the body shop

No change yet, but I just called my dealership to see if there was an updated/more solid est. delivery date now that the car's actuallly being built.

I believe it's only a PARTIAL shutdown, they are just refitting areas of the plant for the 07's... I think this really just affects production time and volume - ie: not as many cars being produced during this time, and the ones that are being produced are slower than normal...

Good news is it is one week from today that my MINI is supposed to be completed!

I'm in Richmond, VA, so it's not like I'm in Cali where it's super hard to get a slot.

I'm not counting on anything less than a month and a half. It seems like 6-8 weeks is pretty standard.

I feel the same way you do! I ordered mine on 7/25 and was also told 6-8 weeks delivery from time of order. I had forgotten about the scheduled plant shutdown, though. I just called ASK MINI and Meg told me that, although the computer is still showing my car as "on order", it does have a production week of week 34 (8/21). She also said that the plant was shutdown for all of last week and this week. So if you ordered on 7/24, I would think you should be close to the same production week as mine unless your dealer had just filled up a bunch of slots.

Yes you are right, I did call ask mini and they told me same thing that i am in Week 34 as of right now.... The car will be finished on 31st....

The car might have been here faster but the partial shutdown really extended the wait....

I hope we get new parts .....

It seems most of us in this group got there cars STARTED on before the shutdown (the week of 7/24)... If it was shutdown last week and this week, that makes sense why most of our status' havn't changed from 'In the Body Shop' since they are in there, but no work is being done, haha! Oh well, at least the completion date is the same... I just hope I make the Aug. 18th boat if it's finished on Aug. 16th!
