2008 Cooper S PCV hose replaced with heater hose—hose collapsing?
Hello,
I've been trying to track down some mysterious air leak issues in my 2008 Mini Cooper S turbo. One of the things I saw recommended here a few times was to replace that crappy brittle plastic PCV hose with rubber heater hose to eliminate any air leaks from the PCV.
Well, I did that, and I actually found it to be... almost worse. The stock hose is rigid, and probably for a reason: The bends all fit where they are supposed to go and fit around corners and stuff. My hose kept kinking, and blocking off the PCV entirely. Eventually, I found a way to get it to loop properly and leave the hose open.
Now, I'm having major idling problems, and I recently realized that what is happening is that as the engine runs, the vacuum generated in the PCV hose is enough to collapse the heater hose and cut off most of the flow. The rigid plastic hose wouldn't collapse, but the heater hose is weaker
Am I just doing something wrong? Has anyone actually ever done this mod successfully? Or is it somehow fine that it's collapsing?
when i install Oil Catch Can i used vacuum hose made with Silicone 3/4” i cut off both end because the ability to quickly disconnect the hose, it kink a little but not enough to restrict the fllow that cause a rough idle, if it wasn’t for the OCC i wouldn’t replace with other hose i’d recommend the stock hose and they fairly cheap at GeekParts.com
i tried to used radiator hose and even the black hose for the washing machine but both collapse and i didn’t like it. Good luck
If you have a Industrial / hydraulic hose shop stop by and explain what you're attempting to do and they have a better option for you if you're set on not buying the OEM part.
Wow never really seen one collapse like that. I can see it was updated with a newer part number: 11157565449 was the older part number which update in 2011.
