Last year I put off buying a Mini becuase the lead time and wait was a year or more in the SF Bay area. I decided to check again recently and two dealers, Mountain view and Concord, are quoting october for new orders of the Mini and Mini S. I'm delighted. The people of Mt. View don't deem to understand this since the re still charging a premium. What is everyone else seeing?

They're charging a premium because they can. East Bay is still not charging a premium and they still have a long wait time. Just be glad you aren't in So. Cal where they charge up to $8000 over. You just have to decide if it's worth the extra money to have it now. I got on the waiting list at East Bay in September and just received my car today. I can say without a doubt that it was worth the wait.

Could always call that place in New York and have your Mini shipped to you. They always have an ad up on the MCO home page.

I ordered (MCS) in March in DC and I'm taking delivery 2-3rd week of August. I knew it would be this long. In fact, I'm about 4-6 weeks ahead of schedule. I have a Miata now and I wanted one last summer with it although I can't wait for my Mini now.

JMHO, but I think dealers that charge a premium ought to be pimp-slapped - for any vehicle. They make enough money as it is... Had my dealer tried to pull that card, I would have immediately walked. Some Dodge dealers around Dallas are doing it on the SRT4, and in some cases, they are sitting on their lots because nobody wants to pay $27-28K for a hotrod Neon. I, for one, am glad to see it...

>>--> scobib; the dealerships can charge a premium IF people will pay it. Obviously this is a regional based situation; dealerships in Nebraska probley aren't putting premiums whereas dealerships in LA definitely can.

Well, of course they CAN. That doesn't mean they SHOULD. I realize demand is driving the market, and some dealers feel like they should take advantage of the situation and gouge the public. IMHO, it will leave a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouths - of course those who really want one will gladly pay the premium.

Ok... so lemme see if I get this:

One year ago you didn't buy a MINI cause you'd have to wait a year to get it. But now that the wait is down to a couple months, you're pleased, I'm assuming, because you're thinking of buying one. But that brings YOUR total wait time to well over a year and if you'd just ordered it when you wanted it you could have been driving it by now....

???

Yeah really. Think of the all the stumbling ecu's, leaky coolant tanks, and other goodies you missed out on. That was the main reason, I gave these guys two years to figure this car out. Of course, it's not trendy any longer. So what do I know!

hmmmmm......my MCS was at the dealer 3 weeks ago....their service department still hasn't figured out the ecu stumble on the S yet, laugh. I was told to live with it and keep the rpms over 3000rpms which can be a little hard on the clutch from starts ....any dealers out there that have, it would be worth the drive to get it solved.....never had a coolant tank prob, just the other goodies called rattles ....cheers
