Any news out there on how many checkmates were produced by MINI? Surfing the net hasn't produced an answer for moi. (Very glad to own one!)

Rims

My checkmate is currently on order. I don't like the rims that come with the Cooper. Any suggestions on a sweet alternative? I'm torn between the silver 17" R90s like those from the Italian Job, and the 18" JCW double spoke rims.

I love the 17" R90s also. But one of the things that sold me on the Checkmate package was the -pretty good looking, lighter than 17" R90- wheels that are included.

If you're gonna get the R90s get them from NAM sponsor Classic Auto Campus. It will be significantly cheaper than from MINI.

I agree that the 17" rims that come with the Cooper S checkmate package are nice looking (the horseshoe rims), but I just recently found out that there is a different 16" rim that will come with my Cooper with the checkmate package and they're pretty vanilla and blah.

Thanks for the tip on Classic Auto Campus!

i like the way the r90's look. But the problem is with those wheels they are bbs wheels and they have a problem with the finish deteriorating over time and they will lose their seals on the tires. So the tires will lose tire pressure unless you get the wheels refinished. This happened on my friend's Jetta with the BBS wheels which are the same exact wheels only 5 lug.

And with that i would go with the jcw double spokes, which is also a good looking wheel.

Thanks for the tips. I've seen some of the pictures in this forum that make me think the JCW is the way to go. The 16" rims that come with my Cooper checkmate package are very blah compared the the 17" rims that come with the Cooper S checkmate package.

Thanks

Thanks guys and gals. I didn't think it's gonna happen but it did. In the back of my mind, I thinking something is going to go wrong and I won't get my checkmate so I'm so happy that he's home safe. Now, I'm always finding excuse to get out and drive, pickup a sundae at McDonald's, check out something at a sporting good store, etc I think my first mod will be an OEM alarm and a Dice Ipod Adapter. I'm still waiting for my personalized license plate.

Just checked your gallery Revwillie, our minis are twins

On another subject, I just ordered a Dice ipod adapter, in preparation I'm looking for the CD Changer socket at the boot. I can't seem to locate it, does any know exactly where it is, or I have to look harder. Thanks in advance.

Speaking of washing and flame spokes. what are people using to clean their flame spokes? They are not the easiest wheels to clean.

PM me if you would consider selling those bridge spokes "vanilla blah" 16" wheels that come on your Checkmate cooper

As for a nice looking R90 type wheel which is not as heavy.. try ASA AR1..

I use these:
http://www.autogeek.net/pigelwhcl.html
http://www.autogeek.net/erwheelbrus.html

It's a little pricey, but I buy the cleaner in bulk to save. I do them about every two weeks, and they never get too dirty.

i was driving on tuesday morning in MD in the beltsville area, and I saw DS/DS checkmate. Rolled up next to it and rolled down my window. He didn't see me at first. Then i rolled a little ahead of him and then he saw me. He then rolled down his window and smiling. I waved happy to see another checkmate on the road.
