I just have been told about this Checkmate topic and since I own one I thought I post some pictures overhere.
The MINI is a 2006 Factory JCW Checkmate, ordered with roof and mirrors in Space blue too. Also shortly after delivery the Checkmate stickers were removed by the dealer as the first owner probably didn't like them. Myself I quite like the clean look without the decals but I have a complete set as spare.
As it is a John Cooper Works I decided to fit the Carbon Works parts so the mirrors, hoodscoop and boot handle aren't space blue anymore.
I was wondering how many checkmates were made so I emailed MINI in Germany and asked how many cars were made with option code P7ANA (checkmate) and as I have a Factory JCW Checkmate I also wanted to know how many were made with both P7ANA (checkmate) and S3ALA (Factory JCW Tuning Kit). Today I've been called by MINI and they supplied me with the production figures.
In total 196.612 Checkmates were made (both Cooper and Cooper S) of them were only 301 Factory JCW's.
Turns out, I ended up with @bluminiboy 's Checkmate. So this C-mate is now back on the Checkmate owner's club thread! "Silvia" has been in Phoenix for the last 11 years or so. Not sure who the owner was in-between bluminiboy and my sellers, but there would seem to be at least one other owner in there based on my research.
Car was decently taken care of by the people I bought it from, but definitely not what I'd call enthusiast level. It needs pretty much everything. Lots of oil leaking below, probably needs a new clutch, cooling overhaul, lots of cosmetic fixes etc.. I'm also planning to put it back to stock, including all Checkmate decals (yes @JackMac even the side checkers! ). I don't know if I can pull off the track tune or any other ECM mods. I may even search out a set of R97 Flame Spokes! That would leave me with a set of R90's to put on a different car Bottom line, I'm thrilled to have one of the most fully loaded, slick-top, full Aero+JCW wing, anthracite, 1 of 301 factory JCW Checkmates out there! Only bummer is the Navi!
Here are some pics as she sits today.
From Craigslist ad From Craigslist ad From Craigslist ad From Craigslist ad Trailer'ed it home a whopping 120 miles. Home at last! Already secured an original JCW airbox from my MINI bros.
From seller - note bluminiboy's custom leather stick-shift boot and e-brake, as well as aftermarket water and boost gauges. Shift **** bottom and "S" on side scuttles are custom painted Space Blue. From seller

Thanks JackMac! I almost wonder if the Checkmate photo you posted when you started your search in 2016 was of bluminiboy's car when it was new? It even has the blacked out belt line that is still on the car today, as well as the stance (it still has the Hotchkiss lowering springs which we're installed very early in the car's life). I see he had a lot of photos of it back in the 2006 time frame here on NAM, but all the Photobucket links are dead now. I was able to get a few from his threads though
Here are some of bluminiboy's photos that weren't lost to Photobucket. Man look how clean that leather and seat fabric is!

Great info, you didn't happen to ask when the last one was made? Or know who maybe able to help me find out?
I just discovered this thread and will read through it in the morning. But I just acquired a beautiful 2006 JCW Checkmate with relatively low mileage and in almost pristine condition. Love it and will scour this and other threads for info!

Pics and details, please! Factory JCW or dealer installed kit? If the former, another of just 301 produced for the worldwide market as confirmed by Maik-jcw in correspondence with BMW Germany (post #605). Total mileage and known ownership history? No not mine but my buddy bought one of those 301 from the original owner last summer at 6k total miles.
I don't know if it's factory or dealer installed, but I suspect dealer since it's more common. I don't have the original sticker (5th owner, I think) but the original invoice just shows "JCW John Cooper Works $6265" and "JCW 18" R95 Wheels $1637". 86,000 on it now and a lot of "refreshing" done. Very nice, almost feels like a new car to me!
Use a VIN Decoder to determine. I prefer bimmer.work but most searches recently resulted in errors. OTOH, mdecoder.com is still working for me...
A quick way to determine if not factory 2006 JCW is if lacks red JCW front calipers, which were part of the factory-built option whereas that otherwise remained a dealer-installed kit as in previous years. Same with LSD which was part of factory 2006 JCW vs a standalone option previously. Nice looking Checkmate - congrats and enjoy!
