For those that have put ordering deposits on a credit card, does the dealer actually charge the deposit, or do they simply do like most motels/hotels and get an authorization but do not actually charge the card?

If they charge, I'll give them cash. If they just authorize, I'll keep my cash.

Thanks,
JS

When do they generally charge it or cash the check? I put my deposit down 3 weeks ago. I just went to status 150 yesterday and since I could supposedly cancel the order until they started building the car, I'm assuming they'll send that to the bank now. Is that accurate?

Thanks,
Bill

I got charged $500 for a deposit, and it was pretty much done immediately. It showed up on my very next statement. My deposit was refundable, and I think if I had cancelled they would have just credited the account.

I was charged a none refundable deposit of $100.00 to my credit card. The deal was If I donated $100.00 to the Boys and Girls club through the mini canada web site that was the deposit for the car. The dealer never got the money for the deposit but the car was still reserved for me . The first 500 cars in Canada had to be reserved that way. $50,000 was raised for the boys and girls club. Cool idea isn't it?

Charles

That's a great idea!

Someone asked about deposit amounts. For Flow Mini in North Carolina, it is a fully refundable $500 deposit. Since they charge the card, I'll just pay cash. No since in paying interest until the car payment comes, and if I had a spare $25K lying around, I'd pay cash for the car as well.

See ya,
JS

Seems like deposits vary from place to place.

At Moritz MINI in Arlington, TX, there's a $1k deposit to order a new MINI. They run your credit card right now to verify you have the funds (I would assume it's like a gas station does before you start pumping gas), but they don't charge you until the date of actual sale, at which time you can just put it on the card, or forget the card and pay cash, or whatever. They also told me that after status 112, the deposit becomes nonrefundable.

Works fer me.

We wrote a check for the deposit. They actually didn't mention taking a credit card. Our dealer, Dreyer and Reinbold in Indianapolis, IN, required a minimum of $1,000 to order one, and it was refundable until the production started, I think.

I was very concerned about this when I ordered mine. I Crevier a check for $1,000 which was cashed about 5 days later. it was FULLY refundable, all the way up until the car actually arrived at the dealer! (I triple checked that fact)

I think most dealers will charge the credit card. I take $500 deposits, which are refundable.

Bill Jacobs in Naperville, IL was taking $1,000.00 deposits when I ordered my S, and it was also fully refundable.

$2000 deposit for the order. Great deal on the car (I will post prices after I pick her up on the 15th) the deposit is fully refundable. It makes sense, with all of the demand for these cars, the dealer could probably sell my loaded MCS off the lot for more than I am paying for it. Think about when you placed your order. Would you have paid a little (or a lot if you got it) more to have driven it home that afternoon? I can hear the salesman's angle- " We have the perfect car for you ! Somebody just backed out on their order, but you gotta act quick, there are ten others on the waiting list and they are on their way in right now". Bottom line I don't think you'll lose your deposit. Hell ,out here in Colorado, Ralph Schomp told me a MCS = a ten month wait.
