Just back from Wisconsin. They had to de ice the plane three times yesterday afternoon, and they still used most of the runway!

The "Finance guy" (not my MA) just called to say that my car may be in Monday and asked how I would like to pay. With someone e;se's money of course!

But seriously, nothing from my MA. Better call and give him the programs I want.

Because I am away again next week (PA), will probably pick it up 4/11. (I hope!)

Regards,
Red

OK -- Drum Roll.....

I finally got a call from my MA. My Mini arrived today at the dealer. They couldn't get it ready for a weekend pickup, but I'm scheduled for a Monday afternoon (5pm) pickup. I just called my insurance agent to get it on my policy and I'm burning a CD of songs for the trip home from the dealer.

The CD will start with my signature song, (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes by Elvis Costello. The second song is Sunshine Pig from the Mini production movie. Then a little Clash, Otis Redding, Stones, Tom Petty, you get the picture.

Man that phone call improved my mood 1,000,000%. I'll charge the digital camera this weekend and I'll post pictures sometime Mon/Tues.

Now I need to name her. What's a good name for a Chili Red MCS?

Harry

Hi Guess what????? I got moved to awaiting transport   Cool very cool....But the transport must be slow becasue MINI was already booked on two different vessels and failed to get there in time, and so was removed from the cargo manifest.....

Miniclo, You must have set some kind of record. Off the Medea on the first, sighted at your dealer on the 3rd! We should all be so lucky

Jeremypro, where are you? Any word on your mini yet?

I went from production (March 7) to en-route, to at my dealer in less than a month? It went so fast that I never got a chance to figure out what boat I was on. Any way to figure that out, or is it too late? I wanted to put all the information in a folder...

Go to this site and put in the last 7 digits of your vin number under auto tracking and it should tell you which ship you were on.

>>>>Birdie: How rude of you to even think of putting your MINI through the torture of a Drive-thru car wash! Honestly tho, I wouldn't wanna take the risk of getting the driving lights screwed up by those heavy and brutal cloth-walls! Try to stick to the self-do "quarter" washes, or better yet, hand-wash in your driveway! Take a look at the Detailing 101 Forum, lots of info in there!

Dear Ryan,

Been away from the board this week, so forgive me; but what about those of us with frozen hoses and other items in the dead of winter? And a dirty MINI

Regards,

Update: called my MA and we put in all the programs this afternoon. He never heard of some of them (taken from this club) ie: unlock w/ignition off and handbrake on, and fuel low tone. Said he would send them to the shop. He even told my insurance agent he programmed the DRL's, but did not, on my orders!

Car would be ready for a Tuesdaty pick up, but since I will be gone, Friday morning it is. My wife and I are going to play hooky and drive it around Long Island's South Fork for a little shake down run before bringing it home. My wife has even volunteered to drive my company car home. Great kid!

It will allow me to try it out, and bring it back to the dealer (MINI of the Hamptons) if I have questions before driving the 60 miles back home.

But you know I am going to sneak a look at it on Sunday!

>>Been away from the board this week, so forgive me; but what about those of us with frozen hoses Similarly, you don't want to use something high-pressure for the same reasons. You want to just ease the dirt and crud off without grinding it in first.

What I've been perfecting on my SO's car is waxing for protection (currently testing out some products new to market that're getting some rave reviews from the professional community). It's amazing how the water sheets off, so less dirt actually sticks to the paint coat. Once the car is coated, though, I take it to a self-service car wash and pay only for the rinse cycles and use as little pressure as possible to just start to clean the car off - get the packed-on grunge loosened and moving off the coat with the water to lubricate it gently.

Then wash at home using either a bucket wash - fill one bucket with your soap mixture (and DON'T use dish soap unless you're going to re-wax the entire car), and another one or two for rinsing out your wash mitts (something with nap on it - like chenille or wool- is favored to get the dirt off and hold it away from the paint until you rinse it out - into the rinse bucket). You can also use lukewarm water to save your hands - just not too warm because if the temperature difference between your chilly car and the water is too great you risk cracking glass.

Alternatives to that include Quick&Easy Wash developed for campers of all things, but really economical to use on cars - you wash using one or two buckets and it gets the car pretty clean. (http://www.protectall.com/qelg.htm)

You can also use a quick detailer to wash the car once the majority of the dirt is gone. The brands vary a lot, but most of them have a lubricating cleaning action. Some offer a wax topper to supplement what's on the car.

Just make sure to dry the car really well - try using good microfiber towels - they absorb better than most terrycloth towels with less lint (but the terrys'll work in a pinch if you've got nothing else). Don't rub the car dry in case you've missed some of the dirt; instead blot blot blot!

If it's REALLY cold outside and you're worried about the doors freezing shut, try parking the car with all the doors open and wait until the water's frozen that's going to. Then slam the doors shut to break up the ice and get it out of the jambs and hinges. Repeat as needed until neighbors come out to check on you Ahem... just what's worked for me.

Just a quick summary of what works well for me in the wintertime.. if you'd like more specifics, ask! Please, ask!

~Rachel

Two-timer!!! Are you trading or keeping MINIclo? When I read that you getting Wicked Wanda I was almost as shocked as When MINIQUEEN decided to get rid of her awesome red, checker flagged MINI!! Good luck with her on your x/c journey.

Harry and Kpyto,

We had a pretty good "first drive" music discussion going about 2 weeks ago...I even included the playlist of my first drive CD...still have the disc ready-no car YET

My final most excellent news is that my MA called today and MINI finance has agreed to beat my credit union rate by 1/4% at the same term, sweet!

Rachel, hope the knee is healing well and you are up and about soon.

Katie, any news?

Peace to all,

chef blabbermouth

Ok Chef Blabbermouth, here's your Programmable Options listing. If your MINI dealership says they "can't do" some/any of these, have them e-mail me immediately, I'll straighten them out!

Central Locking
--------------------------------------------
Automatic locking after starting off (active / not active)
[I believe this is after 10mph, and only once per startup]
Automatic unlocking after engine off (active / not active)
[works only after engine off and pulling e-brake]
Selective central locking (active / not active)
[unlock driver door first click, the rest second versus all open first click]
Selective CL RC (active / not active)
[see above]
Holding RC open button (comfort opening/luggage compartment opening/no function)
[many dealerships won't be able to do this one, don't ask!]

Window Regulator/slide/tilt/sunroof
--------------------------------------------
Convenient opening lock (active / not active)
[allows windows and sunroof to be opened by turning key in drivers door lock]

Lighting
--------------------------------------------
External lights
Daytime Driving Light (active / not active)
"follow me" Home Lights (not active/40s/90s/150s/240s)

Windscreen wipers
--------------------------------------------
Switch back when stationary (active / not active)
[aka 'speed sensitive']

Acoustic Warnings
--------------------------------------------
Fuel Warning (active / not active)
[low fuel audible chime]

Displays/Language
--------------------------------------------
Units
Temperature (degrees F / degrees C)

Cheers!
