R50/53 THE APRIL CLUB
HFranks - Is that screensaver the left one of the 3 they have on the site? I downloaded the spedometer clock and the mini/matchstick but didn't know what the other one did. I have to check it out!! I have the matchstick one on my computer now at work and everyone loves it! It starts some good distracting conversations during the work day (like MCO isn't enough of a distraction for me already!) heehee
oh god need a study/work break for i am going craaaaaaaaaazyyyyyyyy!!
anyway, i think the gold MINI looks like.. well looks like ***. granted, i haven't seen a real life pic, but i dunno about gold.. kinda too ghettofabulous for me. i can just see it with some 20 inch chrome rims that keep moving after stopping, which be the way make me wanna hurl! (insert spewing icon dude) maybe throw on some hydraulics, lower it a foot, put some bangin subs in the boot and tint everything, and get a license plate YODAWWG. okay so i gotta little carried away, but im really stressing and needed to vent in some way!
so yeah... the other day i took a study/work break and bought crap loads of stuff for the beloved winnie.. she's gonna get spoiled with all the car cleaning prods ryan suggested I buy.. everyone go get the MINI-specific zymol wax kit--you even get the kit to match your MINI's color.. how cool! Also ordered, through classicmini dude, the euro parcel shelf (although i don't really need it), MINI visor, cargo boot net, and valve step caps. wahoo, more mail coming soon.
okay, break's over back to the love i have found in continued education (PSSH!)
going crazy...

>>So green stuff break pads eh? I was told that reason the mini gets so much brake dust was because the pads are very very soft, and that this is why it has such awesome stopping power. I know it's not like haveing a 6th gear or anything, but this is one of the unique MINI aspects of the car that I was very impressed with. If I were to switch brake pads, wouldn't this change a bit? Is there a reason why you guys specifically reccomend the green stuff brand?
>>
Ok guys, here's the deal on OEM versus EBC Green Stuff brake pads: stock pads use a carbon based compound with steel fibers. As you press the brake and induce friction, the carbon base rubs off a bit, creating the dreaded brake dust. The steel fibers help keep the whole deal together, plus help stopping distances, at the expense of wear. These compounds however, still last at least 40,000 miles, so they're not that soft! EBC's Green Stuff uses a new compound that incorporates Kevlar fibers in an organic base. This new compound doesn't "dust" like traditional pads, and also isn't as abrasive. Green Stuff, because of the new compound, has a higher coefficient of friction, but still stays progressive. This means that the pad will seem to "grab" harder throughout brake pedal range. Finally, because it uses Kevlar and not steel, these pads do not wear rotors as quickly! Disadvantages? Price! Advantages: less fade, more stopping power, less wear. Many of MCO's sponsors carry EBC, btw.
Cheers,
Ryan

so are they also bullet proof?
how much are they typically?
how do they look, i think i read a post of someone saying that they don't look as good as the stock.
guess i could research it myself, but that would take effort, and i'm busy.. no really, i am... im going back to work now, i promise.

Well, unlike some of you who have responsive MA, I just called the dealership. I didn't ask for my MA because you just get his voice mail (every time) and he never returns calls. It is not like I have called very often. I asked to speak with someone in Mini sales. When a man came on the phone I asked if he could check to see if my car has left the VPC yet. He said "I've got a lot of paperwork here. Let me go through it and if your car is here I'll give you a call early next week." What a pain in the a$$. I just want to know if my car has left the VPC yet. It would take only a second. Why did ASKMINI have to change its policy.
The way it looks now, my Mini won't come in until next week and then the dealer said they new 2-3 days to prep it (give me a break - 2-3 days???). At that rate I'll be on vacation before the car is ready and I'll have to wait until late April to pick up my car. This is really frustrating. Anyone know anyone with access to the Mini computer system that can check on my vehicle?

WHOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!! My MA called me today to tell me that my baby is in the lot! She won't be ready until Monday, but he said to feel free and come by to take a look tonight if I wanted. And so I shall. I'M SOOOO EXCITED!!!!!
Hi everyone!
I spoke to my MA today and he not only answered the phone, 1st ring! He was very helpful.
He's trying to match/beat my credit union financing (cool)
He was not surprised I knew more about the car's whereabouts than he did (guessed MCO right away)
He asked about a few options and I wanted opinions from y'all
Floor mats - I'm leaning toward rubber...
Window tint (lifetime guarantee) - I'm leaning toward yes (it gets HOT in TX)
Car alarm - I'm leaning towards no, what do y'all know about the standard central locking/alarm system?
Any other options/accesories I should be thinking about now rather than later?
I appreciate your feedback!

I'm thinking of naming my Mini PYRO after my favorite snake, the Arizona Mountain Kingsnake.

Dealer confirmed today that my MINI did infact arrive in Chicago today and everything is a go for delivery on friday evening or saturday morning. Tommorow I'll spend 6 hours on the amtrak on my way to pick up my beloved MINI  Been two months now since I sold my last one so going through heavy withdrawl.
Hey all! I stopped by the dealer tonight and saw my baby in the lot with a "Sold" sign in the window with my name on it. WHOOOOHOOOO!!! I gave her a big hug! I'm going to check in on her over the weekend and I may just do everything I can to get the money situated next week. I don't think I can wait the full 12 days til my birthday to be motorin'. That Chili Red is just too tempting. I will have some great dreams tonight...sunroof open, cruising down the road on a bright sunny spring day....What a great time of the year to get our minis!
Til tomorrow....

Oh I am so close now! Oh I am so close now!!!! I just got into new hampshire(where it is snowing!!!!!!) and tomarrow, I pick up the mini!!!!!!!!!! Too excited to type anything else. I don't know how I'm going to be able to sleep.
Congratulations on the flawless repair job wags, looks just like new!!!
Hopefully you have put the worst of your dents & dings behind you. How did the repair costs come out...hopefully you have some $$ left for motoring fun.
I like your companion too. Reminds me of my sis-in-law who collects pigs of all types.
I have a Gandalf figurine just waiting to ride in shadowfax, now if I only had the car
