R50/53 THE APRIL CLUB
So I'm finally getting the Probe all ready to sell... remember that it used to be pink? Here's a link to what it looked like - yes, it REALLY WAS that dull and ugly looking: Pink Probe (urling it since it's a largish pic)
and here's what it currently looks like:
The RED Probe
getting there... still have to adust a few things and apply some more glazing...

Talked to the sign guy, George, again about the stripes. He quoted $100. Seems reasonable for around here. One guy quoted $300 and said that he was mid-range for the area. How unfair they they raise prices b/c of where I live, not because of difficulty of work or anything. $100 George seems cool though. I think I'm going to drop of DeMini Tuesday am and pick her back up at lunch. That's not too bad. So I'll take before and after pics! Yippee! Just wish it wasn't raining here...
Rfath - Big difference in color - great job!

Michael, I am totally and completely sorry to have offended you, or anyone for that matter. I must stress that I had no idea what-so-ever that I would offend anyone with my comments, and that I did so makes me feel very ignorant and ashamed. All I had meant to imply with my choice of words was a sense of character in my story, these guys had thick brooklyn accents, they were buff and they loved cars. They were also intellegent, incredibly polite and friendly, and I now see how my chice of words did not convey these triats. But I honestly did not expect my words to be taken so seriously. Agian I whole hartedly apologize. The last thing I have ever felt in this city is that I am better than anyone. I am more alone and out of place here than I have ever been in my life.
I also want to apologize to the rest of the CWFAC. I know this stuff is not our style and I am completely embarassed to have brought it here.

First, Michael can you explain to me what an egg creme is?
Second, those of you who have taken delivery, does the MINI have a "weather" button on the radio? (Either the standard or HK.) On my B(lah)MW, there is a button that gives you weatherband reports. It's gotten me out of the way of more than one bad situation.

Meg:
An egg creme or possibly, cream, is a native Brooklyn/NYC beverage. In a tall glass, it consists of:
Chocolate Syrup [Must be Fox's U-Bet, made in, yes, Brooklyn USA]
A small amount of milk [made anywhere]
Fill rest of glass with seltzer [best from an ice cream parlor/soda shop nozzle or a blue-glass siphon bottle]. Mix well with long spoon. Drink. Go "AHHHHH". Best enjoyed on a hot day.
You will notice there is absolutely NO egg or cream in the concoction. When properly made, there is a great deal of white foam on top, which looks like 'cream'. The name "egg cream" has various stories behind it, any of which may be true - or not. The one I have heard is a "French" pronunciation something like "chocolat et creme", Americanized [or rather, Brooklynized] to "Chocolate Egg Cream". I have seen [in supermarket shelves] actual 'bottled' egg creams under a couple of brands. I've never tried them; the idea seems sacrilegious.

Meg,
No weather button... just AM/FM, CD, Changer... that's it.

Just got a call from the trucker delivering my MCS. Said he will be in Los Angeles tomorrow (Sat) night or early Sunday morning! I'll post pics Sunday night or Monday hopefully! Can't wait! And get to see some Lamborghinis too!! should be fun!
Bryan
I'll try and take some pics of the Lamborghinis with the MINI if i can!

The egg creme sounds a lot better now that I know what's in it. I had this fear of some sort of gooey concoction involving raw eggs...I don't know where I got that idea from. (We don't get a lot of egg cremes, or em, any, down here. If you're keen on ice-tea or mojitos though...)
It's a bummer about the lack of NOAA radio, but not entirely unexpected. They make small, portable units and I'll probably get one of those. I would urge all of you to spend 25 bucks or so on a weatherband radio before you buy any other car goodies. It's not just for your safety, think about the safety of your car too. Do you want to accidentally drive it into a freak hailstorm or tornado?

Chef,
The OL is pretty far off, but a couple of days before my dealer got the car, it showed 4/5. And that was the day it was delivered to the dealer. Just a caution not to put any faith in the OL.
And get rid of those "sticks" before you pick up your car. They leave crumbs!
Good luck!

Delirious with Glee!
I have my MINI!
I am one with my new friend-
My shiny Chili Red!
Just picked her up - got the run down, drove her home (1 mile +/-) and don't know what to do with myself. The mini is so beautiful! The white wheels glisten! The sunroof reminds me that sunny days will come!! I just LOVE it!
And I can't believe it's mine.
Sad news - my hubby's at happy hour. I tried to call my mom and sis to no avail. Thanks goodness for MCO and my CWFAC buddies to share in my moment. I ran right upstairs to let you allknow you can do it! I never thought April would come and now I have my mini. Yours will be here before you know it too!!

Pyro is home!
Got a ride from a friend to the ferry in Marin. Beautiful ride across the bay to SF. My wife and I spent the morning at Fisherman's wharf before a noon appointment at SF Mini.
We weren't sure if the bonnet stripes where in, so we walked the last 3 blocks to the dealer hoping. I had never been to the dealer before, so I was't sure exactly where it was. I saw the BMW sign first, then a glimpse of red behind a silver BMW. Then a bit of black on the bonnet. There was Pyro, shined, striped and ready to go. WOW!
SF BMW has the coolest showroom I've ever seen. 2 stories, open in the middle, BMW cars on the first floor, and upstairs, New BMW motorcycles, old BMW motorcyles, a bright red isetta and shiny new minis.
Took care of the paper work in 45 minutes. Wa'el and Kevin were great. They even gave me a free birthday hat. Black with a mini logo and red piping.
A 30 minute "training" session, the off to the streets of San Francisco.
First driving impressions. Fun, fun. fun. clutch and tranny were smooth and precise. I was pleasantly surprised at how the mini pulled some seriously steep hills. Two clicks on the e-brake, 2000 rpms, ease out on the clutch, release the e-brake and a smooth, no roll-back start.
The freeway was bumper to bumper most of the way home. Got up to freeway speed for only about 15 miles.
Another pleasant surprise, The cruise control pulled a moderate grade in 5th effortlessly. I've never had CC on a manual before. This was nice.
Visibility is great, except for a blind spot on the driver side. Only other negatives were small drink holders, and lots of brake dust.
Stopped by work on the way home, and my 6'5" boss got in and said Wow, where did all this leg and head room come from.
Got a long look from a red Corvette, and it was home for a quick dusting and show-off to my 15 year old daughter who demanded the keys. I don't think so!
Anyway, a hall of fame day.
Pics later this evening.
Hope everone else who picked-up today had as much fun as we did.
Andy.

Great pics Andy! I've missed alot today, woah! [including a drama between Michael and half of Massachusetts! The stock pads seemed too grabby and non-linear, whereas the EBC pads feel smooth, linear, and predictable! YEAAYYY!
...more to come,
Ryan
P.S. Rataha, I don't plan on getting the CD changer for a while, actually

Ryan, Glad you like the brake pads. After 50 miles of stop and go driving, my wheels were covered with dust. I think my mod list will be shuffled to put the green pads #1.
Did you get your springs yet?
